i actually think he is a good actor just needs to lose the tan.

I heard that he was an anime fan and loves the genre so if it boosts the profile for anime why not.

however live action adaptation of this well i feel it wont work its like doing a live action of Ghost in the Shell it just cant be as ground breaking as the original

i think he is trying to show he can act, he is open to new things. well im all for it

btw you know theres rumours of a live action Ghost int eh shell -.-

nooooo dont make me cry

According to Wiki. Efron will be playing either Kaneda (with new name Kaneda Shim) or Tetsuo. Efron hasn't accepted the offer yet.

Efron is a Disney good boy. Why put him into a movie with violence, blood and bad language? Especially since they're going by the manga which is more extreme then what the anime was.

It would put his career to a whole new level but he's fans from his Disney career would be a bit =/ with it. If they remove all this, it wouldn't be Akira.

These are all rumors and the trailers could be fakes. So start believing when they OFFICIALLY announce him in the movie.

The reason came up right there - because he wants to shift that angelic Disney image that he's got connected to him right now. Did post about that before His fans will be in for a shocker of course, but there's nothing wrong with wanting to be taken more seriously.

Zac Efron didn't start out in Disney.

He started out on motherfucking FIREFLY.

Personally I think he's a good actor, but I've watched his other films besides the HSM series. He's a fan of manga and he's read a few series, so I'm sure he'll pick up Akira before playing the role and get to know the character inside-out.

(in before influx of "OMG HE PRONOUNCED MANGA WRONG" )

Anyway, whether the film is good or bad (regardless of ONE specific actor's acting), I know everyone will go see it anyway.

After all, sick curiosity couldn't keep us way from Dragonball Evolution, now could it?

In cosplay too, might I add. I'd go see it just to hear the "OMIGAWD ITS NUFFIN LIEK TEH ORGINALZ" afterwards.

Upon further contemplation, hollywood didn't do so bad with the last two Batman movies. Sure it started out great with Tim Burton and then it just got neon and camp, but then all was forgiven with Christian Bale's sore throated ninja in a cape. But stretch me out long and dip me in chocolate flavoured coating to make a pocky out of me; I sure did love them.

Maybe, and this is just me airing my thoughts; that Hollywood took DBZ and thought "Happy go lucky alien monkey dude fights evil invader, lets make that into a movie".

With Akira, we may have "Shady corporations and children with telekinetic powers, mind altering drugs in a future where humanity is cheap, Hmmmm.. Lets get Tim Burton to do it, and feed him some acid. Directly into his eyes."

If not Tim Burton on Acid, then Ridley Scott all angried up.

But one can only dream.

*wish wish wish*

everyone who has posted on here is not the target audience for this film. You are all in a very small minority who know what Akira is about. The film will be made for the average public who have never heard of it before and will spend money to see a big blockbuster film with a famous leading man in it.

Films are about making money /end

I think everyone gives Efron a harder time than he deserves really. Remember to actors work is work. And many do eventually like to turn their careers around to do more serious or more professional stuff.
Will Smith for instance does very different things now to say... the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. XD

I'm willing to give him a chance, there are a LOT of worse actors out there!

Although, Zac does do the weird sad/in pain face when he talks sometimes, which does annoy me slightly

Interesting. Haven't seen many things with DiCaprio as the producer, wonder if he's any good at that. Also curious as whether Ootomo is really the exec producer or if it's just in name.

The Hughes Brothers aren't giving me much confidence though I have to say. DX I remember "From Hell". That was... terrible.

Its like I said about dragonball when it was in production and I hadnt seen any of the screen shots ect "its either going to be passable or completely fuckin awful" my instincts tell me to go with the latter XD

To be honest, being a producer literally means he's put money into it and has shares with the movie, he won't have much input

I think he's a bit of a fag, myself, but that's just one person's opinion.

Opinions are all well and good, but I don't think THAT insult was acceptable

For me... I've always found that remakes are always flamed beforehand, people have already decided that they're going to hate it. I happen to love the 2009 Sherlock Holmes for example, but some of my friends are so convinced it's bad, they're refusing to see it. If the film has been seen and they dislike it, fair enough.... opinions are fine. But... starting off thinking that something is going to be bad is a very pessmistic view from my perspective. Things may surprise you (or you may have been right all along at it may be utterly dreadful XD)

About what the post was originally about, Zac Efron. I'm not into many of his films, but I don't think any less of him as an actor. He IS trying to shake off the wholesome disney boy image, by expanding what he acts in. If people are immediatly judging him based on what films he's been in and what roles he's had before.... then I do worry about the state of the world sometimes. Giving people a chance doesn't go a miss.

*squee* I remember when I saw him! SO glad someone else made that connection too 8D It satisfies my (not so) inner geek BD
