Making a Kimono top/keikogi?
Heyy, does anyone know of a form of instruction on how to make this? I mean for my Kenshin cosplay. On my profile there is an image if you don't know what i'm talking about.

i've tried to find explanations on how to make a simple kimono pattern before and i've tried 5 or 6 of them but by far the best way to do it is to find a kimono pattern in the fancy dress sections of pattern books.
they're pretty simple to modify (ie: make it shorter, make the sleeves longer etc etc). the only thing to hold you back is the amount of fabric you have. ^^

Thank you for the replys, patterns.. yep thats what I was looking for . Also I think I am correct in saying it is a Kosode. I'm looking for a pattern now. I'll make sure I have enough fabric , tho I'm not making it my mother will.

one thing you can do that tobifan has done with his tobi cosplay was drape his fabric over him and cut some arm and head holes, then make the sleeves from there

The basic kimono type garment is the easiest thing you (or your mum) will ever make! It's symmetrical and you don't need to measure too much of it up because traditionally they are made so they can be easily adjusted with an extra fold and a tighter sash!

2 rectangles for the back so you get the seam down your spine

2 rectangles for the front(slightly wider than the back pieces for overlap)

2 rectangles (folded in half) for the sleeves

1 long thin rectangle for the collar

The hardest bit will be the neck and shoulder part of the collar. Oh and use an iron where you can. Have a look at my Anotsu on my gallery! Message me if you need any help or let us know how you (your mum) got on!
