With October drawing closer and my need to find a replica MP7 (http://mgdb.himitsukichi.com/pukiwiki/?plugin=ref&page=HK%20MP7&src=mp7.jpg) increasing, I have been fruitlessly searching the internet trying to find one, and have found a horrible pattern...If you want a gun that looks remotely realistic, you have 3 choices:
1. Buy a real gun (though I think we can rule this one out)
2. Buy an airsoft gun from a UK website (if you're willing to spend £40 plus)
3. Find a cheap yet realistic looking toy gun from a US shop.
The problem is, I don't have £40 to spend on an airsoft gun, nor would I, as it would be unlikely that I would ever use it again, and all the US places I've found refuse to deliver outside of the US.
anyways...my question is, is there a place in the UK where I can buy a cheap replica gun, or a place in the US that will deliver to the UK, if you can refer me to a place that you've ever bought from before (or just a place you find when browsing the web) then that'd be great, my budget for this item would be £20 (including postage), or as a last resort I'd have to make it myself, and believe me, with my design skills that would end in tears.

I had an idea though, if you look at some toy stores they will have very cheap toy machine guns, since you still have some time, why not try buying a very cheap child's noise maker and modify it with the modeling foam, or even papier mache, if you need to add detail "funky foam" sheets are good tyo use to cut things out with and add details. You will want a red tip to the gun or some other way to make it seem unreal. Nobody wants to be shot by Al Powell. ^_^ |

spookyruthy Joined: 14 Aug 2007 Posts: 9 | The problem with trying to get an Airsoft gun is that you wouldn't be able to take it to the expo or even carry it around because although it might not be dangerous because you won't load it, it's still potentially dangerous because it can fire.
And you'd never even get a real gun out of your house. If you don't own a license for it, then it's a crime to even carry it. My advice is to make it yourself and just spend lots of time trying to get the colour and feel right. As long as you carry it covered up until you get to the venue your OK. The police if they stop you on the way only need to ask if you have a valid reason for carrying it. Use in a 'fancy dress party' is fine as long as your act responsibly with it. At the con go straight to the con security staff and explain who you are and why you have it. Be sure to emphasis the replica is not loaded and can't fire. What security say's goes. Last weekend at Glasgow we could carry inside the arena as it was a non-public event. If we wanted to go out to the food court armour and weapons had to be left behind. As long as you act responsibly security staff are pretty decent types.. Although there can be jobsworths. If you get one.. Chances are you friends carboard katana will be peacebonded as well. |

| JediFraz Joined: 27 Aug 2007 Posts: 6 | Main problem is the act is very imprecise in the language used. It draws no distinction between a pistol shaped water gun or a ultra realistic full-metal blank firer.
Although the VCRB bill does indeed come into force 1st October any replicas you already own are still legal. It's only getting more that will be difficult. If you are an airsoft skirmisher you can register and still buy and import airsoft and replica guns. If your under 18 though you won't have much luck. Toy guns *should be* unaffected although if you paint them to look more realistic you might be in trouble. Bit of a grey area, although if you keep them covered in transit and only bring them out at the con away from the general public after talking to security you should be ok. For example in Glasgow at the weekend one of the stormtroopers went out into the food hall and one of the general public called in a Firearm alert. Luckily it was caught by the mall security staff before the armed response team was called out. Lots of costuming groups are watching this new law very carefully. Soon as there's any 'official' guidelines I'll let you know. |
