Does anybody here on he forum collect production anime cels and original background art? Or does anybody make fan-cels (not digital). I have a few, including some that I can't identify. My ultimate would be to get a decent Akira cel, preferbly with Kaneda on his powerbike, but they are mostly in collectors hands or are very pricey.

I'd be interested to see other peoples collections if they would post them up. I need to photograph mine and will post them up if anyone is interested.


I know the Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 ones but It'd be great if anyone could help me name the others. I also have some HE-MAN, Ewoks, X-men, Street Fighter and Inspector Gadget ones.

i have about 250 akira cels ;p

no real ones of kaeda on the bike, but i do have one from when tetsuo steals it, just as he stalls it. the other "bike" one i have is only a douga of kaneda on yamagata's bike as he "sends it to him".

i have a ton of others. mostly non important. i have a long sequence of the hoses and smoke from the part where akira's "orb" rises out of the ground, soldiers, council members, couple of the general, one of kaori screaming when she sees tetsuo's bio-mechanical arm, a backdrop from the gang fight sequence, loads others....

Wow, i'm soooo jealous. were all those Akira cells pricey? I've recently got one of the Doctor from Akira, but it isn't really one that you'd get excited about. Most of mine aren't exactly fantastic ones but just affordable ones i've come across. I've got a couple of nice Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust ones comming my way. There seems to be alot of them doing the rounds at the momment.

The cell you have with the little boy with the blue hair and the angel wings is from a game called 'Psychic Force' and his name is Emilio....

He's actually my favourite character from the game so *jealous* lol

Yup that be him alright!! There was also some short OAV's made for PF , but I'm almost certain the cell is from one of the animated cut scenes from the first game.

the gang cel was... £50ish? waaaaaay back in about 1997. i can't remember how much the rest cost, they were all bought around the same time from different dealers. there was one particular dealer in birmingham that had TONS.

the mutated tetsuo was pretty cheap (about £3 i think... possibly even free) because it was a wreck when i got it. the backing was completely ruined and totally glued to the paint, so i had to spend a few days carefully removing the remnants of the paper , and painted a new backdrop and effect cel for it.

Wow! I'd never even thought about looking for cels back in 1997! If I had I could of had some real bargins. Then again I didn't have a comptuer, let alone internet back then, so it would have been hard to track stuff down as easily. I missed out on a couple of kaneda ones a few years ago because my I'd used up my temporary paypal account and when I phoned the shop to pay over the phone I was told that they had just been sold a couple of minutes earlier. Bad luck or what!?

Here are my Akira cels. The one of the Doctor isn't too bad but the Yamagata one has faded lines and the guy i bought it from cut it to fit into a frame when he was a kid. Shame. - still, i'm not collecting as an investment. I just want to own an actual piece of animation history.

They stopped using cels in the mid-late 90's, it's done on computer now. Although they still start with a sketch and scan it in. But there just isn't as much physical material left over from modern animes.





I hope people don't mind me posting these. I know some people were getting cranky about people posting too much, showing off or posting stuff that is pointless or irrelevent. I just thought these would be of general interest and I really wanted to see other peoples collections. ^-^
