Action figures/statues- Keep boxed?
Just curious as to what people do with theirs. Most people know collectables have more value if kept sealed in the original packaging, but if that really the way to appreciate them? My boss has hundreds of action figures and other collectables, some are very rare. But he has them all out on display and threw out the boxes. His opinion is if it's something he likes and paid good money for why should it be stuck in the box? Otherwise his house would look like a shop lol

I do like to have mine out on display as you can see them properly and pose them. Some figures I haven't opened yet as I need to get some shelves up to keep them on. Unlike my boss however I am a box hoarder in case I decide to sell them or to keep them safe if I move.

I'm planning on buying an expensive (over £100) Hot Toys figure. Due to the cost someone asked if I would keep it sealed but tbh I don't think I will as those who are familiar with Hot Toys stuff know it comes with a stand, a dozen accessories and changeable hands etc. They are supposed to be used and posed and I don't think you get the most out of them if you don't.

What's your opinion? Keep them sealed? On display as long as they're looked after well? Or just play with them like your a 5 year old having fun with Action Man and Barbie XD

All my figures are all opened, as I like to display them on my shelves. I've still kept the boxes incase of moving plans or room decorating.

However, I have one figure that's still boxed and that's a extremely rare giant Dragon Ball Z "The Best of DBZ" figure of Super Saiyan Goku, by Ban Dai, from Japan. Dating back to 1992 back when the Cell Game saga first introduced itself to the anime. So basically, it's 18 years old and hasn't been opened yet. The box is a bit battered but figure is untouched.

I'm like you; I keep them out on the shelf, but stash the boxes in a cupboard for moving house. I think a lot of figures just have too much packaging to display nicely unopened.

Think about it this way:

do you care more about them for their potental financial investment or for their esthetic value?

I don't have figures anymore, when I did every figure was out (including some incredibly rare ones). The boxes from my cheap redily available ones I slung, the more expensive ones I kept(in relative good nic too);
With both types I still got at least half of what I paid for them originaly when I sold them off.

If you are buying something very poseable, nomatter what the cost, if you bought it for its esthetic value, you will get alot more enjoyment from having them out, plus poseable things can be great fun to photograph (says the ball joint doll owner).

I keep my figures and statues out c:
except for Sheik, who goes into her box when I'm at uni in case the kitten decides to sneak into my room and knock stuff over o.o (sheik was pretty pricey)

I play with the moveable figures.
I'm like a little kid.

When I was younger I use to collect anime figures and comic book figures a lot and WOULD NOT take them out of the boxes, nowadays the price of figures takes about...well a long time to go up in price so I tend to open the ones that I want to play with XD

I take mine out of the box, but I keep the boxes, then if I move they can be safe and also like with my two Nendroids I got yesterday they have changeable parts so I keep the parts in the boxes

I don't see the point of keeping them in the boxes becaues I can't see them and thats why I got them y'know?

Depends how old it is, I kept all my doctor who toys in there packages, as I sold those on, but my mcfarlane dragons most of them are out, they look better on display!

My mentality is that I'll buy something I absolutely adore, and thus have no reason to sell it off. So I take mine out of boxes to have on display.
However I keep the boxes in the cupboard, as incase the need comes to redecorate, move house, move room, etc. I still have the safest place in the world to keep my lovely figure, the packaging it came in.

I used to take all my figures out of the box the moment I got them home, but in the end I was running out of space so a good number of them stayed in the boxes for a while. I've moved out now so I've got room for all the ones that I own, but I only kept the boxes for my FF8 figures.

Only if they're old or super RARE LOL

My anime figures I take out and keep the boxes. My Harley Quinn figures that come in the unopened boxes though I leave and display them in the box =)

I usually take them out of the box and only keep some boxes just incase. With alot of the packaging I cut the cool pictures out and use them as bookmarks for my manga.

However, I have vintage stuff like unopened star wars figures (old skool 80's ROTJ, not prequel or modern). These remind me of my childhood. The memories of looking at all the tiny pictures of the other figures on the pack of the packaging, not actually seeing certain figures in real life but only on the small picture just about 8mm in size.

All my figures are unboxed XD except for an expensive Polish doll that my parents bought me, for obvious reasons in that it was expensive and they didn't want me to ruin it XD (it was more a decorative doll than a playable doll and I was afraid I'd break it if I touched it lol!)

I decided recently that I want to start collecting the FF Play Arts series, and the couple that I have so far (Aerith and Fang) are just so much better out of the both. I can appreciate them so much more like that, and try my hardest to make them stand up withoiut blutac, too XD

I can understand why people would want to keep theirs boxed and possibly sell them on one day, but I know I don't want to sell mine on. Or if I do, then not for a very, very long time. I'm too much of a geek to not want to play with my toys now! <3

Get them home, rip them out of the box, chuck the box away. I've never even considered keeping them in the box XD It drives me mad when you look in the packaging and can't see the back/sides/whatever. I get my figures for the pretties, not so I can sell them on later.

Personally, I like to take them out of the box, I prefere to see them displayed without the packaging.

That said, I do keep the boxes, as I have too many figures to display at the moment, so I keep some boxed, while others still have their boxes, either for if I decide to sell them, or for the time when I move into my own apartment/house.

I always take mine out of their boxes and display them the moment I get them home.
I do however keep all of the boxes. I think only one of my figures doesn't have a box and she was my first big figure.

My Fang and Vanille are still in their boxes, but I took Lightning out because I wanted to use her and her gunblade as a reference for my cosplay hahaha. I've still got her box though.

I keep all of the box's but I take my figures out I like posing them and such. My lover hates it though LOL it's always fun to watch him sqirm whenever I take my figures out XD

I take mine out the boxes, I started collecting figures before I knew about "price", I used to play with my FFVIII figures like barbie dolls XD

I keep the boxes now in the loft just in case I do for some reason in the near future (I hope never) have to sell them...

I don't think I ever will though because alot of people have bought me some for birthdays etc. so they hold memories aswell as looking awesome ahah

They need to breathe!! And it's rather hard to do so in a stuff box!! Hehe. So, needless to say, all my little buddies are free.

i let my figures be free but i do keep the boxes in storage just in case i need to sell or if i move home :]
