Ever gone out in cosplay? and what is your story for the afterwords?

I've gone out in cosplay sometimes when I feel like it XD
alot of poeple stare, BUT WHAT THE HECK!!!
I dressed that way I'm going to be stared at, so oh well.
sometimes I often get people who know who I am, and it makes it wroth it.

Not yet, but I want to take my mechanical tail for an outdoor "live" test, so I'll be doing it soon. I'll let you know if I get arrested for wandering around with a large, k'nex tail hanging off my butt.

I wanna go outside with a bruce lee outfit . People would be like hes not dead !!!! ^_^

I've never been out like around town in them, but we regularly go out into the woods or the botanical gardens for pictures. We've been doing it for so long that when the park ranger sees us he just gives us a nod and carries on XD

I only really go out in costume when traveling to events. By that I mean ones in short traveling distance (London Expo, JAF, for example).

I have indeed done it, it was in brighton so it wasnt to bad, no one wanted photos lol

I walked around Brighton once in cosplay. I had to go from the centre to the station after a short event in Brighton. I was wearing Sheryl Nome's date outfit, so it wasn't that weird.

However, I got looked at and checked out a lot... it was... an experience. >.>;

Its not really something I like tbh, I cosplay only really at cons however sometimes when people do cosplay picnics or whatever I do, not overly fond of it though. I dont really enjoy the stares/shouts ect its nice at cons but the stares are there for recognising an outfit...I hope XD the whole general public cosplay dosent really turn me on sadly.

Heh, going out in cosplay makes no difference to me. I've walked back from a photoshoot in my town in my Clone Syaoran cosplay and every Expo I have walked back through London to London Paddington station still in full cosplay. I have alot more confidence in cosplay than without to be honest ^^;

But maybe thats only because I've not had any negative experiences from doing it yet ^^;

Might as well give my two cents.

It's not something i like but i do. I mean i love cosplaying but some peoples comments make you want to punch or generally just batter them senseless if you don't mind me saying so. Please don't have respect these days and that annoys me to no end.

Comment i got once was 'its not Christmas' which i couldn't help but laugh at, i really didn't understand what Christmas had to do with anything.

All in all, i will if i/friends what photoshoot but its a bad i idea when most of the characters i cosplay have props.

Generally Im too attention-shy to want people staring at me all the time, so I dun wear cosplay in public (except on the way to cons, but then I'll cover up with a coat or summut if its a less casual costume)...

Though a week or two ago, me and a friend went to our local park for a photoshoot, I was wearing Yuki Nagato (from Haruhi) as The White Rabbit (as in Wonderland), so I had an elaborate tailcoat, purple hair and huge bunny ears... Few people stared and asked questions, but it wasnt too bad until we were heading back to the car, and ended up walking past what I guess was like, a wedding party... massive crowd of people staring as we walked slowly past. Mortifying XD *haha*

After getting stuff thrown at me by chavs... never again.

A couple of years ago I did a couple of times, but I don't anymore. Back then I was in that phase I'm sure plenty of people, especially cosplayers, have gone through, where you get kicks out of people thinking you're weird. I suppose it's just a brand of attention seeking really (and aren't us cosplayers just the world's largest community of attention seekers xD) where you want people to notice the fact that you're different.

Anyway, a few years on, I really don't get the same effect anymore. I love cosplaying at events, but outside of them, staring just makes me uncomfortable.

The first time I meet some awesome people that knew who I was, that made me want to see how meny people chould tell I was Naruto, or Len, perhaps Gintoki.
I dont like getting stared at, but I also have in mind that I am dressed up and giving them half a right to stare at me T-T So I wait for Halloween. yay ^0^

Plus the cosplayers seeking attention thing in the begining, I also agree with. you have an awesome anwser. ^0^

I'm guilty of sometimes going out in cosplay- but I definately did it more when I first started, and now...not as much.

Every so often myself and my friends like to have random days out together where we like to have a bit of a laugh by doing so as certain characters xD I hardly ever do a full cosplay though...usually just the wig and casual clothes I think the character might wear 8'D

(Last time I did full cosplay in public I got rocks thrown at me...it wasnt even that wierd looking ¬__¬ (Izaya from Durarara!!))

I wear my wigs from time to time, 'cause it's easier to slap on ready-made hair than it is to tame messy hair. ~_~ I don't wear the actual cosplay stuff usually, I'm too worried about them getting dirty or ripped.



I honestly can't imagine why dressing as Izaya would get you physically harassed. He's just wearing a black coat and pants. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with people?! /:

There have only been two occasions where I've been "out" in cosplay. Once was at a Minamicon when I needed to stay in costume for a photoshoot, but I was also really hungry so I went to McDonalds. It's so close to the Minami hotels that I wasn't the only person in costume and it wasn't too bad - all I got was this little kid who looked about five years old walking past and staring at me in abject terror... bless.

The second time was after the cosplay club night last New Year, which involved an unavoidable walk through Bristol at about 2am. I was with other people who were also in costume but I still felt really uncomfortable and self-conscious about it, especially since I was getting weird things yelled at me by drunken idiots. The fact that it was bitterly cold didn't help matters either!

In general I don't like being in costume in any environment other than a convention or some other themed party, and avoid being out in public while in costume as much as possible.

Me and Sailorette plan on going out and about in cosplay when I visit her, just for shit and giggles.

Never done it, unless of the way to a convention. Went into a service station as Rikku Final Fantasy X a couple of times xD

I wouldn't whenever possible. Those people who see you may not mock or say anything but you may want them to give you a job or whatever else at some point in your life. There is also concern for my costumes, why risk them getting dirty or damaged before getting to the event. I don't really see the appeal in general of advertising this particular hobby in such a way to people who don't care.
Whenever I do go (and it is fairly rare, I admit) to meets like those of Cosplay Scotland I'd always travel out of costume and change when I got there if the event was in a reasonably private venue, or attend dressed normally.
That said, I have been to the McDonalds at Minamicon in costume, same reason as Sillabub.

I dont like getting stared at, But I have made someone search Anime/Manga just becuase they saw me dressed up as a character they did not know.
As a Superhero fights crime, he inspires people to be as great as him, and who knows? One day you chould inspire a Well lets just say "Person who does not care" to do what they see is Fun. And maybe join you in someway?
Till the end of time we'll show people what we like and how much we adore it, By puhaps doing silly things like going out in a costume!
I am not changing your opinoin, just merley living in the moment to give mine. ^_^

I have been out in cosplay before, once we went into town for a video, and I had a child shout " omg it's Sasuke" It freaked me out a bit though. And the other time was when me and my friend were walking to meet my friend before an anime night, I didn't get many comments because I was in L cosplay. But my friend was in Itachi cosplay so yeah..she got some comments. But I don't think it's put us off, me and some friends are going to see a women that works in the local noodle bar in Sora, Riku and Kairi cosplay.
