for those that have been london expo before.. is it worth it??
i have never been so dont really know what to expect but i really wana go as it will be the first time i have done anythign like this.

but then the cost of it seems to be increasing each day

im lookin at:
£60 a night hotel (and wana do 2 nyts)
£45 return travel from brum to london
£30 or whatever it is for the expo tickets

plus all the spending money there, food, travel from train staion to hotel to expo and back to hotel

its got to about £200 before i have even go there

but is it summat that i should feel annoyed if i miss it.

should i just wait till the one up in brum

Personally, I would say...no! It really isn't worth it ! I find it's barely worth the £10 train journey I pay to get up there! London Expo really is nothing special - a lot of crowds, a lot of pointless walking around.

True, the dealers room is amazing...and it ends there for me! I certainly woudln't ever envisage spending that much money on Expo!!

Then again that's just my personal opinion !

I've always had huge amounts of fun at Expo - granted, I don't exactly have far to travel, but I personally love the bustle and generally friendly atmosphere... Especially cosplay meets - they're super fun :3 Plus, I'm a huge collector, so the merch aspect is greatly adored.

I suppose whether it's worth it or not is entirely down to whether you'd find lots of people, stalls and cosplay fun. It's always tiring though, I might add...

I'd definitely say it's worth going once, though if you're by yourself it might be better if you wait til a friend is available to go with you?

After all, things are (almost) always better when you're with friends because FRIENDSHIP IS THE BEST THING EVER 8D

I might as well give my 2 cents.

I went to my first expo convention in may and even though its a lot of pointless walking around, its really worth it to have people stop you and ask for photos or just complimenting you.

I met so many new people and amazing ones at that. I also think its a good idea as you can freely walk around in cosplay without someones harsh comments towards you.

Also the dealers room was amazing but in my opinion just meeting people was worth it.

Theres no were better to cosplay than at a convention, that way. your cosplay is seen and noticed and as are you as well as meeting new people who enjoy the same thing as you.

Don't wack it till you've tried it i say. Everyone likes different things and it may so happen expo isn't for you, or you might come back from it and jump at the chance to book it for may.

If I were you I'd travel down for 1 day, just on a saturday and leave it at that!!

It'll make the expenses much cheaper for you and if you don't like it then there's nothing lost! At first I thought everyone loved expo but there are some people who aren't so keen so I wouldn't want to tell you to spend loads of money going if I thought you may not like it.

Go on just the saturday, if you don't like it, you haven't wasted half as much money as you would have, if you do like it you'll be counting down the days until May when you are sure to spend a whole weekend there!

Personally I LOVE Expo, there is NOTHING like it, the journey there, the meeting people the stands EVERYWHERE is just an experience you will find nowhere else. On the official MCM Forums you will find a lot of people suffering from what's known as "Expo Blues" - midweek depression after the Expo weekend because it's THAT enjoyable

If it's your first time going there then yeah, I'd recommend going! It's great fun, lots to see, lots of activities going on and it's an all round great atmosphere.

There's a huge crowd problem but you get over it.

The only problem I find with Expo is that once you go to one, you've been to them all. But it's worth going at least once.

Pretty much the majority of the community goes as well so it's great fun seeing everyone!

I'd say yeah, stay for two nights. If you go for just the Saturday then you can always go into central on the Sunday to make full use of your time in London.

I say yes, its the highlight of my year, even with the crowds (which I hate) and how expensive it is, (I've already spent £250 and that doesn't include travel yet!) I still love it, the dealer room is amazing, I get so many great things each time I go (and find some pretty sweet bargains too!) and this year I'm taking part in photoshoots and have already made 3 friends before even getting there, if you've never been before, then maybe try and go for just one day to see what it's like first, as it is alot of money, but everyone is so friendly, and its just great fun!
Also this one coming up lots of things are changing, its going to be bigger and better then ever =D

I personally love the expo. I don't get to go to the actual conventions (I'm told they're better) as I simply don't have the money for it. But I get to meet so many people and walk around in cosplay all day! There's no reason you shouldn't go.

Pack food to take with you Soooo much cheaper!

21 Sep 2010 - 20:0741228
I personaly hate them.

Thing is though, everyone is different. Making a decision based on what everyone else says isn't the best way to go about it, especially if it's something you'd like to experience.

Just go, see what you think and then make your decision as to wether you'll go again based on that.

I find that unless I've made specific plans to be with a group of people for the entire thing. I just don't go.

21 Sep 2010 - 20:2041230
where there is a will..there is a way

£11 travel there and back
£60 for 2 nights b&b
£10 pack lunch. lol

the joy of my first expo... priceless

Im not sure if you mean you want to go in on the friday or wether what you want to do is outside. but just remember if you want to go in friday you need to prepurchase a weekend ticket or you wont be able to get in on the day.

Yay!! I'm surprised at what people said about the crowds thing, they're really not that bad depending on how you are with crowds and I should know because I LOVE crowds and MCM never meets my crowdy expectations. I've been going to every MCM expo for like over 3 years now and I still love it all the same, the stalls never seem to change much I will say that but if you're really into buying merch chances are you will already know that the best places are online. It's all about getting stuck in with the community IMO! I've gone on my own a few times and left with loads of new friends each time and that was without cosplaying!

I will say though that the MCM management is gradually going barmy, experience it quick before they do something big and silly. Ideally I wish there were bigger or at least similar size expos around the country that we could all fall back on should MCM collapse.

21 Sep 2010 - 21:0441237
well.. im gettin the ticket that allows friday entry

and crowds are fine.. more people more fun thats how i see it

reckon i gotta go seeingas its costin me about half what i thought

21 Sep 2010 - 21:3441240
Yes. Just be prepared for big crowds and heat.
I always have fun at expos, as even just sitting outside with friends is great ^^

Inside the hall itself I don't find it that crowdy (probably different at the beginning of the event but I always go in half way through because I don't want to queue up for tickets XD)

But outside is just hell if you have a big bulky costume, massive long train for your costume, etc. Fine if you're wearing something small like a school uniform, but when you have a giant hoop skirt I'm constantly having to go "*walks through crowds accidentally bumping into people* SORRYYY D8", might just be me though : P

If it's lovely weather though, it's not too bad ^_^

I personally always or try to make sure I wear fragile costumes on the Sunday or for the masquerade only because it'd only get damaged!

There's my two cents on crowds.

21 Sep 2010 - 23:2041247
I've been to 3 Expo's and I'm going back in October - It's just good fun!

I like the excitment, and the crowds and buying various stuff that yeah I probably didn't need but oooh shiny.

There's so many great Cosplay's around - I tend to get a bit 'OMG LOOK ITS -insert character here-' XD

I only Cosplayed properly last time, and I have to say it is better in Cosplay - Getting stopped asked for photos, taking photos, seeing all the merch, going to a few of the panels.

This time I intend to get more into it! Maybe even take part in a photoshoot (Ahem...If I get my Cosplay done >.< )

So yeah - Definately worth going at least once!
