I've tried afew of the new updates like the overview page ect ect ~ for me, they seem to be working well ^^ I think that the overview page was the most important and best addition X3
I can only sing the site's praises \('A'/

The latest *latest* updates
Damned swish. I wasn't expecting to see half of this stuff implemented so soon Or at all in terms of the timestamped stuff, that's fantastic.

I like the new look/banner too.

The lightbox thing is awesome. I wanted to go "agh! animation! takes too long! wasteful! and there's no alternative!" until three seconds later when I realised middle-click worked too, and the comments are in the alt-text.. (Speaking of which, <br> tags in the comments show up in alt-text, might be worth stripping 'em)

Making possibly the most beautiful combined solution I've ever seen.. *sniff*

but I haven't found anything to break yet

Ooh ooh, latex is spelt wrong on the tutorial title!

..I think I'm reaching here.

What spelling mistake? I dont see any spelling mistake! *whistles*

Mwahaha, have we finally done an update that you cant break?! Even so, still be vigilant! We may have gotten past the "yeah, this button doesn't work, and this button brings up an awesome sql error" stage, but doesn't mean we wont make mistakes XD

I'm glad to see people are liking the new updates! Please remember this part of the forum if there's something you really like, or really hate - we wont know unless someone tells us

Hm, personally I preferred the pop-up window to the Lightbox function, I fear. I liked clicking a photo and still being able to read the profile as the photo loaded. Nert seems to imply that there's still a way for me to do this, but it's in techier speak than I understand ;_;

Otherwise - absolutely loving the photos in the banner, I assume there will be more as the site grows?

With regard to the forum, is there a way of getting one of those little info boxes to pop up when one hovers over the code buttons at the top? I know I can read the function at the bottom of IE, but it would be more user-friendly. Specifically, the "quote" icon is difficult to work out.

That's about all I can think of - generally loving the site, it's nicely laid out and friendly to use.

11 Sep 2007 - 03:47399
Generally I'm not a lightbox person either.

But this one is a bit more user friendly than ones I've seen on sites before so it's okay. :]

What I would like? An option to turn off smilies. PLEASE ;_; I hate them!

But eh, I know you guys are working on the forum, so I'll just deal with it. xD

11 Sep 2007 - 07:23412
Techie-speak decoded! -ish.

If you're using Firefox (or I think the new Internet Explorer works the same way), middle-mousebutton-click on the photo rather than left-click.

Old IE it'd probably work similarly with holding down Shift when you left-click.

It'll open the photo in a new tab/window without anything fancy, leaving the profile page still open too.

Also, any comments they wrote on the photo that'd normally show up at the bottom of the lightbox window will pop up if you hover your cursor over the photo.

------

I'm with Kelly on the smileys, people do use 'em but I always disable them on my posts if the option is there..

At least they're no longer armed o.o;

I like!............... that is all.

The new functions and features look pretty damn snazzy to me!

Also, kudos for making what is so far the easiest cosplay site to use by far, I can't get away with cosplay.com's system, way too time consuming and baffling for my tiny mind. Cosplay Island however = swoosh, yay, easy, etc.

Liking that there is now a Photography forum - TOP GETS! I'm going to use it to bully people into modelling for me ^__^

The new text size is far easier on the eyes and I'm liking all of these new features, like the competition section that encourages people to take part in the site more. I also like the notifications to tell you who out of your friends has updated.

I'm a fan of the lightbox feature. I think it works and it looks snazzy to boot. I prefer it to having a lot of pop-ups.

I think I'd still prefer in the costume section for Source to be changed to Series (because even if it is a Jrock costume or a game people will get the idea) and it might also be nice to allow users to skip more than just one page ahead to browse through users and costumes if they aren't particularly looking for one thing, say 4 or 5.

Yes, I also have a hate of smilies (always turned off on forums and msn for me!) Once we've got a few things out of the way we're going to look at the forum properly and see what we can do. But yes, most people didn't see the true form of the smilies when we first set up this forum XD (Think Mark was sad when they went though!)

I'm going to check through IE and see what works/doesn't work, as the descriptive text on the buttons appears in firefox! We've neglected the forum a bit too long, but we'll get onto it as soon as we can As for the banners, it takes a while to do them, but ideally I'd like to add new ones as the site progresses. Perrin chose and edited the photos, so blame him for having my mug in half of them!

I am sorry you dont like the lightbox function, but if you follow Nert's non-techie explanation you can still open it in a separate page (PM me if its still not working!)

I'm really glad you feel that way - the main ideal we tried our uttermost to stick to was making the whole site easy to use. So this is very positive feedback for us! Please, if anyone finds anything hard to use or understand in the slightest, do mention it!

We weren't sure whether to go with series just incase it alienated people from adding costumes of movie/show characters and such. I know source does sound a bit awkward though! It was hard to find something that said 'where this costume comes from' in one word only - we'll consider changing it back though

As for the page skips, thats in planning - We're working out the best way to organise the directory page listing and making it easier to navigate.

Thanks again to all for your feedback and wonderful comments Its also good that things people are picking up on are things we also have in planning - which means from our point of view we're focusing on the right parts for some of it, at least!

Lil' thing
Any chance of, in the latest forum posts section, clicking the link takes you to that latest post?

As is, it just takes you to the first post, even if the thread is multiple pages long..

Thanks!

Shhh, maybe no-one will notice We know, both problems we are working on.

We're hoping to upgrade the forum very soon, until then we'll try and make sure nothing else breaks!

Please do report if anything else goes wrong though

Just a quickie, but i've noticed people are also listing their props as a seperate entry, which i think is great, I'm working on a prop myself which has already set me back about 8hrs of coding for a microchip (funny i can't code PHP to save my life tho.) but perhaps there could be a tick box to say "This is a prop item, not a costume!"?

I must admit I haven't seen an entry where people have just added a prop in addition to their costume? I'd be interested if you could link me someone if you can remember them, just to see how they have done it.

The system isn't set up for adding 'props' rather than a costume. By all means we wont stop people from adding them if thats the only part of the costume they have completed/will be making, but we dont really want to cater for props specially. If we do there isn't much to stop people having different entries for wigs, parts of costumes, etc...and that really defeats the object of how we've set up the site! I hope this answers what you were asking

24 Mar 2008 - 21:182109
Although i can't find an item in question (may have been removed since i last saw it) but there were entries for just the prop item, rather than it being included with the cosplay it was being used with.

I can see where you're coming from though - but thought i'd raise the point when i last saw it.

might this have been the one?

but as cat sait it was just a prop that was made rather than a whole costume (i think)

(* and a very awesome sword it is too, kudos to Lady Alexiel*)

Not sure if this is really the right thread for this, but I have a suggestion.

I have noticed that people are starting to add separate costumes for their weapons, as 6 photos isn't enough for costume and weapon, I was wondering if it would be possible to add a link to the weapon page from the costume page? that way you wouldn't have to spend so much time surfing from one to the other, also people could easily see that you have done some uber cool weaponry too!

When I first logged onto CI today, I was excited to see the new look but as I started to surf around, some of the new features weren't working for me. =(

However, I'm on my school network using internet explorer so I'm gonna put it down to that xD I use firefox at home, so I'm gonna go check it out when I go back, but from what I've been able to see, it's looking pretty awesome!

Now that I've come home and switched over to firefox, CI looks completely different lmao! It looks so much better than the last layout, and I congratulate you all for it! The new features are fantastic!~

It does look totally different on internet explorer though, haha xD Just to let you guys know - When I was using ie, the costume interface didn't work at all for me. ^^;

meh.... i don't really know what to think. some parts i like some i don't. like all the grey. i dispise grey with a hatred nothing else but the halifax adverts can match. i know it's supposed to be a cool (as in cold) colour but it's boring too.
the blue is ok.
however i do like the tabs instead of having to scroll down the whooooole page to get to the lastest comment.
i'm one of those people who puts their props in a seperate page so i'd like that option of linking to that page. i'd like to be able to link to other pages in general though. like to thread i've posted here that are in relation to the cosplay i'm preparing?
maybe we could choose a simple colour scheme for out profiles? not hugely elaborate as say youtube or myspace profiling and not fully customisable like those either but be able to choose from say a purple, pink and lilac colour scheme or a blue, yellow, red scheme?

Just one thing that seems to be wrong, when you go to your overview there is a section with recently updated costumes. This used to show the most recently *updated* costumes that you have, it now shows the most recently *added*, yet the label is updated. Can it go back to how it used to be, and show the updates ones please?

* The gradient background is banding for me? It wasn't on the beta..

* Is there any way of making the background on the thumbnails white instead of black? I figure it'd look a lot better that way. I believe I may have whined about this before

* One of the report images for VGL 2007 - http://www.cosplayisland.co.uk/files/NertCam-5450.jpg did not survive.. Although I have a vague feeling it was borked a while back. I think there was another one that's missing on there too..

* Not enough Kat in the banners. Pft.

* I still say the site should support RidiculousRes (tm)

That'll do for now
