Hey...So I just started to look at the forum today and found this thread. After reading the first like...about 8-10 posts I decided to reply as well...
I'm American.
If you want my reason why I'm here I can give it(which is pretty much why I'm replying).
To tell you the truth this is the first cosplay-whatever-type-of-site account I've ever had. I've been to cosplay.com and a couple other sites, but only to look as possible cosplay to buy and I've never actually had an account.
"But Why Here?!" you may ask and I say it's because this site looks cleaner. I don't mean there's less profanity clean but I mean the look. CosplayIsland looks very clean and easy to navigate compared to cosplay.com(which I still can't find exactly what I want off the bat).
"But do you come to the UK"....no...sadly not but I would love to. There are many people who I idoloze on deviantart who cosplay and are from the UK. I would LOVE to meet one someday. I still live with my family and I'm under my parents rules(my mom won't let me travel out of the country, let alone out of the state by myself). But you British people are WONDERFUL at cosplaying to the point where I'm jealous.
One of the only reasons why I'm here is because I would like to get advice. I will be as active as I can on the site but I'm sorry I can't see you outside of the net.
If you still don't think that my reasons are justifiable you can ask any question you want.
If you STILL don't think I should be on this site I can leave.
I don't mind leaving if none of you think it's okay. I mean it's not like I've been here long. I just signed up two days ago.

Erm...there was only 3 people on the previous page that weren't from the UK. I don't think anyone's too bothered about non UK people joining the forums as long as they participate in the community of it but I do like how Cosplay Island is UK based in terms of the Cons and Expos it details as if it detailed all the rest of the ones in the world the UK ones would get lost amongst it all. I wouldn't worry about people getting out their pitchforks and running you out of town though, if you need costume advice ask away (obviously not in this thread though) but be pretty specific with your questions and you'll be more likely to get help. I think Cosplay Island is generally the Brits' Cosplay site, but if people from other parts of Europe want to sign up, that's cool ^^ Because people from all over go to the conventions here in the UK, so it's good for them to sign up to the UK forums/sites to get to know the "locals" XD |

I think the reason a lot of people haven't been replying to this thread is that they pretty much agree with what's already been said (I know it's the reason I've not posted here so far) I just wanted to say that I'm sure you are very welcome here, especially if you are aiming to contribute here by asking questions and getting involved as you say you are! I for one know a fair few of non-UK cosplayers on here. But that's because my hotel room at Expo is always full of Belgians... |

Hell yeah, Belgians! 8D erm...but yeah, as I've said before on here, when I joined I didn't live in the UK and it was clear on my profile...now one ran me out, so I think other Americans, Belgians and what have you have every right to be here! Just don't expect this site to branch off from UK cons is all^^ |

Don't see any reason to refuse people helpful advice, feedback and general discussion just because they're from another country. That's just me, though. I'm very liberal, if I had things my way I'd build an island for cosplayers and we'd party all day. |

You never know, the non-Brit person may plan to come over here to attend an event some time, or wishes to come very soon, and therefore get a taste of the British Cosplay scene. This site is about giving and taking information, regardless of where you come from. |

Any impute members from the UK? =^_^= Have you read the majority of this topic or are you going from 1 page back and making a complete assumption? Reading the whole of your posts, it seems you think people are against those from outside the UK joining...I don't think that was said at all. Just people want it to be PRIMARILY British because, as other have said already, there are a few US cosplay sites, the UK has this one and other countries have their own. __________________ CosplayIsland Staff Member |

Sean didn't mean any harm by his post - he wanted to highlight the fact that international cosplayers are more than welcome within the community. It's nice to know other areas of the world have an interest in the UK cosplay scene despite us being rather behind in most areas. Also I'm sure all the praise the admin's have been receiving in terms of how clean and easy to use the site is are also very appreciated. TLD - No one considers you a bother, you don't need to apologise for anything, continue to freely use the site as you were originally =] |

Personally I think this site should be for UK only, but overseas cosplayers arent so bad if theyre coming over or thinking about it. It would be nice for the overseas coslayers who have signed up here, or new ones who are thinking of doing so come over and attend our cons, if they can, and not just use the site alone. Other than that, no hard feelings what so ever, esspecailly to those who do come over ^_^ Last edited by RevolverKitty (22 Aug 2011 - 00:19) |
