The new layout
I really hate to be negative but I'm finding the new site layout to be very awkward.

I really liked the old "Latest Costumes" page where you could see at a glance the six most recent complete, in progress and planned costumes. Now they're jumbled together which is kind of off-putting for some reason.

Also, I really don't like how when you click on a costume, you have to click different tabs to see the pictures, information and the comments. I really loved how everything was all on one page before, and it feels like a bit of a hassle to view costumes now.

Finally, I'm not crazy about the grey colour scheme. It seems kind of cold and clinical, and almost unfinished.

Could we possibly have a feature where we could switch between the old and new layouts? I think that would satisfy everyone :3

To not be COMPLETELY negative... there are some things I like about the new layout, for example the new HighSlide feature is AMAZING I love it! The layout of the Articles section is really professional too, I like it a lot *w* And of course, how can I forget the Statistics section... I'm such a geek for that kind of stuff XD (And I especially love how Howaycon's Ouran group is at the top of EVERY PAGE ahahaha oh you guys :'D)

Anyway once again I really hate leaving negative feedback, especially for such an awesome site as this, but the new changes have been bugging me so much I knew I needed to say something! I mean this post in the most polite way possible, I really don't want to upset anyone @_@;;;

Thanks for reading,

-Yuka

Hi Yuka, thank you for your feedback and having the courage to leave negative points Of course we generally dont want negative feedback, but we want everyone here to feel that they can express their own opinion about the site and it is important for us to hear things that people dont like.

Firstly, just to stop any other questions about this - we cannot roll back to the old design. It is not as simple as that, and we really cannot do it. However, that doesn't mean that we can't take people's criticism and move forward.

I'll tackle the issue of the tabs on the costume page. Yeah I know it can seem a little unnecessary if there's only one photo and a few lines of text in the description, why have it all separated? It works better for costumes with all the photos up and large descriptions. That aside though, the tab design is just in it's initial stage - the reason why we have done this is to make way for new features. We're planning on adding a lot more to each costume page and with the old design it would just not work - we'd have to create entirely separate pages for it to all fit on, which would probably be even more annoying to you than the tabs. If you really do not like it (we cant please everyone, I know) then you can disable javascript - it will then lay the page out without tabs.

The tabs and colour scheme has been the main thing we've heard murmurs about, but you're actually the first person to mention the loss of separation between complete/in progress costumes. The way we have it displayed now gives a much clearer indication of how many inprogress/complete costumes a used has due to the tab menus and is easier navigation (rather than having to go back to the main list each time), but I guess the latest could be confusing if you were used to the separation? Do you think if there was some way the status of the costume was displayed (a different colour background or something) it would be clearer? Or was it having them on different lines that you liked?

The colour scheme has been mostly liked, although a few people have mentioned it as being cold! As I said in the initial feedback thread - finding a design to suit everyone, especially when we cater for both genders and so many different (and odd!) personalities is near impossible. One idea that is definately on the cards is to keep an identical layout, but have a choice of stylesheets that people can pick from. The choices would be limited, because for each 'colour scheme' we'd need to amend the banners as well, but we'd design several and then let you guys vote on which ones you want available. Of course we highly anticipate that even with multiple stylesheets there being someone who doesn't like any of them

If there was anything else, please do let us know. I'm glad there were some things you liked though XD (We didn't fail completely then!)

Please dont be offended if things dont get changed immediately, or if we decide that things cant be done - we will always give a good reason if we do though and leave things open for discussion. We have a development plan that we are working through for the site, but keep on changing it depending on all of your feedback

To any one else with feedback (I know some of you had a good go a few weeks back, but please any one else if there's anything you want to mention about the new design!) now is the time to speak up! We dont change things just on one person's feedback, but will listen to everyone's opinion and make a decision based upon what suits the majority and the site. If you dont make your voice heard, you have no reason to moan later

Oh my god, an essay....I apologise.

yeah. i'm not keen on it either. and i said that from the beginning. as well as the Planned/In progress/Complete jumble i also preferred it when on the overview had the last UPDATED costumes there. not ADDED. then we could go straight to what that person had just done. not search around for their latest cosplays.
¬3¬
i know i already told ya how much i dislike the new layout so i won't go on. >3<

Grey! *cries*

Hush, you!

About the Last Updated issue, I believe I made a post about that a few weeks back, cant for the life of me find it though. The overview page displaying the last added (rather than updated) was a mistake. We've changed the text on it to match what it shows at the moment, but it will be returning to last updated. We'll be changing the way you can view the costume list, so you'll have control over whether it is sorted by last added, updated, alphabetical etc. Although here comes the obligatory disclaimer asking for patience while we sort this out I just wanted to point out that this issue is temporary.

Actually, hearing about this makes me feel a lot more accepting of the tab system! Part of the reason why I didn't like the change was that it seemed unnecessary when the old layout worked just as well. But if new features are going to be added I agree that it would most definitely start to look very crowded. I'm looking forward to seeing the new tab system put into use with the new features! It'll grow on me eventually. ^_^

Actually, I really like the new tab system on this page for showing the Complete/In Progress/Planned costumes. It is a lot better than the old system where you had to go back to the main list every time.
I'm not fond of the Latest tab probably because I was used to the separation ^^; I think having them on different lines was good. The bolded text for the status of the costume is clear enough, I don't think colour-coding the costume backgrounds would be necessary. Perhaps a new feature could be added where you could choose to organise the costumes on that page as "Latest by Update" or "Latest by Category"? Then it'd arrange itself between the current layout and something similar to the old layout. I think the new layout works well for people who don't have many costumes, but for someone like me who has six costumes on the go and is constantly updating those pages plus changing or editing complete costumes and adding planned costumes it can get pretty confusing.

This is definitely a good idea :3 I agree that it'll be hard to please everybody but I definitely think that giving the users a choice of colour scheme will please a lot of people.

Not offence taken at all! XD I know you guys are busy, and I wasn't expecting any immediate changes would be made. I just wanted to get my opinion out to give you guys some feedback, and to hopefully give you guys some ideas for new updates.

Thank you for taking my constructive criticisms well, I was really worried about making this post. I'm looking forward to the new updates and features! ^_^

I actually really like the new system ^^ I think the tabs work well and it was easier to adapt to.

My only real quibble is I'd love to have a slightly more advanced friends page. The recent activity of friends is ace, but it would be really nice to have a list of your friends in there so you can easily access their pages and costumes. Currently you have to access them through your own profile page and the wee list at the bottom (forgive me if I am mistaken here) and it means if one of your friends uploads a ton of pictures or makes a lot of comments in one day it bumps all the others further down on the friends page.

That would be a lovely addition to a later update ^^
