"Her wigs good but her costume sucks [Insert colourful word]" <- Had tried rly hard with that costume too :/ (Cheshire - Pandora Hearts)
And I've had alot of rude comments on my Roxas wig (which I've slaved over, so far, for atleast a good few days. And still not satisfied.)

Wait, what? I just had a quick look at your Roxas cosplay, and I can honestly say that yours is one of the best Roxas wigs I've ever seen! I would kill for wig skills like yours
And your Cheshire costume too! I seen all the Pandora Hearts cosplayers at Midlands, and I thought you all had brilliant costumes ^^

Whoever gave you those rude comments obviously didn't know what they were talking about ;D

Wow, that's...wonderfully insensitive. It's not like people can do much about having a lisp.

This thread has just reminded me how the world really does have its jerks. Ugh. It sucks that people have had to put up with such obnoxious people. /:

I've only really had "you're too short to cosplay x", which I've heard a few times. Yes, because I can magically grow. I wasn't aware that 5'7" was even that short!

Not really a cosplay but I was dressed as a crappy version of Wendy from peter pan.

... terrible I know but I had no cash for my friend's fiance's birthday. So the friend in question got me a cheap granny nightie from tesco - there was also a wig.

Anyway, having a cigarette outside I got hrassed by some chavs saying I was gay and that I should **** off before they did something. I calmly agreed to leave the smoking area but then a couple of my friends came out and asked what was going on. Chav 1 starts pointing a finger in my friends face - one who bought the nightie - and starts giving him shit. My friend slaps his hand and tells him to keep his dirty chav opinion to himself -us being outside a gay bar on our pub crawl - and it all kicks off from there and turned into a huge fight. Even saw one of the most convincing trannys of my life, who had hit on me earlier, go balistic when I got hit and hit a guy with an extinguisher. Was a really fun night though and being dressed as Wendy I was so drunk I didn't feel the punch anyway. Never seen a big bunch of chavs get battered by dancing queens before...... one poor chav got battered by a bunch of lesbians I hung out with and I swear every one of them went for his balls
Vindication!

I've gotten off really lightly as far as rude comments go.

I think the worst is probably "Look it's Goku, only without the muscles! Ahahaha!" which is really tame. Maybe I'm just lucky?

I cosplayed Goku and I got that commented to me. I turned around and said "not everyone has Hulk Hogan's body."

I remember the first time I got the bashing. It was DeviantArt by a group of Russian cosplayers who put up a picture of my Renji cosplay without me knowing on a "bad cosplay" site and I got the most views calling the site "Renji is god." They kept on going on my DA giving me sarcastic comments saying I'm a amazing Renji and I am god and love by all Russians, until a friend went a located the site for me and it said in Russian that I'm not good looking enough to cosplay Renji, my wig is rubbish and it goes on. It was very hurtful at the time. I had no choice but to remove all my cosplay photos from my DA just so the spamming would stop. And it did.

Cosplayers these day except everyone to be perfect, height, weight, shape, size and colour. People are taking cosplay waaayyy over the top. What happened to fun and not competition and being perfect?

God I hate that guy. (Am Shays Boyfriend for other people.) Some people have no respect for their fellow humanbeings.

The worst I got was not really a massive insult, but i did get harrassed a lot in Deidara by some scottish guy on my train. Also got spanked as Nightwing. O///O

Hmm, intresting thred...
I've had the whole 'Too fat to cosplay, not tall enough, not small enough, that dress is just a bit too long ect ect///

some people just pick insults for the sake of picking insults, its really annoying when you put so much passion into a character your working on or whatever...

I kinda don't take notice of people's cosplays anymore to be honest, and if i do get arrogent comments i just shrug them off. lol. I know im good and im proud of my costumes, who cares what anyone else thinks, of course theres always room for imporvement, but the only person i aim to please is me, So fuck everyone else.

I also hate that people kinda look down on other cosplayers who can't sew, I do sew and i have been doing so for 2 years now...and i do prefear to make my costumes, but i know its quite difficult if you don't know how and it really annoys me when people say 'oh costume bought' its like. Shut the fuck up and just enjoy it...X__X

Cosplay is something thats ment to be fun right? and theres so many people inside the hobby who are such asses and take the fun out of it. I mean, i've seen some amazing cosplayers, all shapes, all sizes, boy's girls...dosen't matter...Cosplay is fun for some, others are more passionate and take more time ect...but thats no reason to be nasty...what is it/like were back in school...No..just no..

Bar cosplay i get the whole, Goth, Lesbo..ectttt comments in the 'real world' but im proud of those things so i just give em the big fat finger >D LOL

I don't think that's being entirely fair, to be honest. There will always be loud asshats with no sense of social courtesy in hobbies like cosplay, but I think they are just a really vocal minority. The vast majority seem to be either people who really are in it for the fun of it, or people who do take it seriously and enjoy competition, but only do it for their own sake and don't give a monkey's what anyone else does.

I understand that you're not happy because of your experience, but there's no need to tar everyone with the same brush. Besides, by saying things like that, you're indirectly hurting cosplayers who have body confidence issues.

I had several when cosplaying as Miku Hatsune - Vocaloid to a cosplay meetup in my town.
I had a "Your hair looks like huge green slugs" from an extremely high on something illegal chav lady.
Also a "If I was playing kiss, marry, avoid, you'd be the 3rd choice" from some spotty, immature lad with nothing better to do.
And a "Wouldn't dare"
But then it sorta evened out because I had a really good conversation with a girl in AnimeZ, a figure store near me, about Miku and stuff. And I still talk to her lots now, because we swapped emails etc. And an equally happy girl shouting "OH MY GOD IT'S VOCALOID!" When I was coming outta HMV. ^^

It was actually from another cosplayer XD as I walked by with my friend to the dealers room at Ame08 this jerky jerk jerk in the same costume as me said "Mines better haha" to which I turned around and said "Did that make you feel big? in front of your friend I mean? I take it she's your girlfriend? or have you not managed to put your effort into expressing your feelings enough for her to understand?" end of the story is she ends up laughing at him and well It didnt really bother me that much it was more the audacity of an actual cosplayer saying it XD

mine was at the last expo. im a really shy cosplayer but in the past year ive had a lot of hardship and to get over that i push myself to do things i would never do.

Anyway i decided to enter the parade london expo in princess garnet catsuit outfit. i decided i wanted her suit in lycra and that i wanted it to show different colours so i did it in gold, not orange and not yellow.

and well if you have ever worked with lycra and made a catsuit its really hard, and i was dead nervous and well i got so much abuse about the colour and people calling me, it was like i wish i hadnt pushed myself to do it. (not to mention having to keep fit and eat healthy just to be able to fit into it coudnt lose or gain weight or else it wouldnt fit)

I was in front of you in the que for that and saw you on stage. You looked great. It seemed a bit too much to go on about the colour like that.

I remember you from the masq! Honestly, the colour didn't bother me at all, it was an interesting take on Garnet's costume you could even say it was leaning mroe towards an amano style Garnet. It's annoying how people will nitpick on things like that :/ but don't worry, you looked fantastic and to work so hard on lycra like that, it really paid off

I find it odd that people say mainly 'bad' cosplayers give the most horrible comments.

I've had some really rough comments from a few supposedly amazing cosplayers (who are yes on here and no I will not name) on my breast size mainly.

One time I cosplayed Trish from DMC it was my first cosplay I was nervous as fuck and got a 'hey cool costume, your boobs are waaay too small though' or something to that effect. It made me feel uncomfortable for the rest of the day and put me off wearing that costume again, probably the only cosplay I ever really loved and a comment like that can ruin it for me.

Some people just don't seem to have a filter between their brain and their mouth...

Gotta say I'm a happier person than I was a few years ago, will now be cosplaying Nevan with A cup bewbs and if anyone comments on it they will get a smack @_@

aww i feel that about my garnet but if you enjoyed being in it just ignore them, its not like we are all pros at this well unless your getting paid.

so all your hard work should be celebrated. boob size so what my best friend had the best comment cos shes a size A "at leaste i dont get black eyes when running" she made me laugh so hard that ive never been ashamed about my size so you should either, and for all them with big boobs, they do look great but it must be heavy, i think (rant) that we all want to be like the other people but we should think there is someone out there who wants to be us. rant over

Me: I think I'm gonna cosplay Haruhi Suzumiya soon. I <3 her >w<
Her: I think you should just stick to crossplay, cuz your boobs are small and all... Leave girls to the pros

Referring to herself. D: Just cuz I aint some trashy cosplayer that has her boobs in practically every shot on her DeviantArt, like she does. >.>

she doesnt sound like someone you need to be around.

i like when some cosplayers think they are better than others like she said "pro" i always think i'll listen to your mean comments if you are a pro and being paid to cosplay model other than that you really can't be saying anything negative about anyone else 'cos your not really a pro are you. everytime i hear someone say a bad comment that goes around in my head and then i smile and laugh

The most memorable is some person cosplaying at a con asked me 'is your wig supposed to be bad?'.

Yeah sure it's meant to be terrible what do you think...¬_¬ how rude. I'd had major problems with the wig and knew it but wasn't going to let it bother me though, I thought I'd just make it better next time! Inside of me was screaming to tell the person off for being rude but I just smiled politely and said 'I've actually had a few problems with the outfit'.

Although not cosplay related I can confirm what Joshua and Woodstock say about people's intolerance to anything different. I've only ever been in 2x public brawls, both times when out on my motorcycle and both times because I was in a leather jacket (FFS!).

1st time was at Alton Towers, with the bikers club on a day outing with wifes\GF\kids. Some locals (drunk) yobs started a fight that we finished... what they didn't know was that most of bike club were in the same Karate club. Anyway police hauled them away for being D&D. It's bizzare as it is funny

2nd time outside a pub when some drunk yob kick my bike- I don't think I've ever been that angry before! He didn't do it again.

So, apart from the alcohol link I think it's fair to say that the life has infinite number of stupid people who feel they are the yard stick by which to measure the world. It's best to avoid such confrontations if possible, especially when the odds are not in your favour (that was the advice of my sensei BTW).

My admiration goes out to anyone who dares to be different

I've had comments on my boobs, because they happen to be *ahem* a lot larger than average.

When I was cosplaying Sakura Kinimoto at May Expo this year I was called a "pervert", so me being me I wheeled round and asked why, and apparently I 'shouldn't stuff tissue down my bra to cosplay a little girl'. I told the guy to cop a feel and see if he felt any tissue; an offer which he denied...
However, later, a free hugger I hugged took the opportunity to cop a feel without being asked. After I slapped him, he said he was "looking for chicken fillets".
Another was cosplaying Lara Croft last October, and some idiot shouts "BIG BOOBS" from across the corridor and some other douche who walks past and blatantly says "WOAH! I never knew Lara's boobs were THAT big!" I also got asked if I'd had plastic surgery on them quite a few times. Every time I explained that I was 16 and the boobs were all mine.

One other random thing before I finish my rant. In Disneyland Paris I cosplayed Alice and some random French teen with a group of mates shouted "FASHION!!!" in my face.
Now, normally I would have argued with him (even in French if I had to!), but since I was with my grandma, who is a pensioner with a bad hip, and my little sister, who has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair, I had other priorities.

Rant over...I think...

Lawlz. Why do people concentrate so much on boobs? Like. Oh. Too small. Nope. Too big. It doesn't bring down the cosplay at all (Unless you don't bind and you're crossplaying. But yeah) Then chest size doesn't matter. Noone concentrates on shoe size so why should it be different? And in most cases if your height isn't spot on, noone complains, unless you're cosplaying someone really short when you're pretty tall or vice versa. >w> people should stop being so obsessive. It's just for funn. D:

19 Sep 2010 - 22:4941100
I had two idiotic girls (who probably weren't more than about 15 years old, I guess) come up to me while I was cosplaying as Belle from Beauty and the Beast and ask if I was a boy. I was too dumbfounded to actually say anything at first, so when I eventually managed to blurt out "what?" they were like "OH OOPS LOLOLOLOLOL" and ran off without apologising.

I guess that's rather tame compared to a lot of things in this thread, but I was quite upset at the time!
