Quote Lulu Rose:

We should just agree to disagree here, My opinion is different to yours. I'm not about to get angry at you for yours, so try not to get angry at others for a differing opinion to yours? I accept that my observation is likley very old fashioned and I also admit that my observations and opinions on some things can change drasticly depsnding on the situation. I do try to think about it though.

Honestly though. I'm not saying I'd be a dick to you because you go to clubs, I never said that and I never suggested that I would.

The internet is a place without feelings. Text based things such as forums suffer from not being able to get across what a person actually feels when they write. I suppose smileys help there? Honestly though, if we were both sat in a room I suspect you'd not react in the same way to what I have said because you'd notice what I actually meant better if you could see me as I said it. Also when posting on forums people tend to avoid typing loads of info, in person I'd have been saying FAR more than I type. So I'd have said "but I'm aware people like clubs and anime, and I've no issue with that"

I'm not the type of person who would turn my back on a friend if they said "actually, I like clubbing." I've never been that type of person, friends are friends regardless of what they do. Of course there are exceptions, for example (this isn't serious here) if a friend turned around and said "oh by the way I killed your dog because I hated him" THEN I'd turn my back on them. But if it was "oh I like clubbing and raves and techno and whatever" I wouldn't. I have SO many friends who like music types I hate, who like things I hate. That doesn't make them people who I don't want to be friends with.

You haven't made me angry don't get me wrong! In fact the worst thing you said was just then when you said "techno" grrr.. lol admittedly I am rubbish at expressing myself on the internet. IRL I speak quite loudly so i tend to put exclaimation marks on everything and capitalise a lot, i actually love to talk in mixed case but a previous forum had a go at me for that so I can't do it anymore =(

but still, the reason I feel strongly about this is because of what has happened, I'm not suggesting you would do it, in fact a load of my friends who have never even stepped into a club before and they don't judge me for it. I have to say that in my experience people have been far more accepting at raves and clubs than they have in anime forums and so on which is why I dont really consider myself a part of the community.

Thankfully I have met loads of cosplayers who have been totally sound, usually I have to say the more outgoing a person is the less likely they are to discriminate. of course there is exceptions to everything

I still don't really know what agree to disagree means but I understand that its the end of the arguement and I'm OK with that!!

So, the general message of this thread seems to be: Do what you want and have your own opinion. <3
And that acting on your judgement of a person without previously knowing them is bad...

My personal opinion is... As long as there's no one walking around the Expo hall naked, then I'm okay with it! Naked people in public, not my idea of fun.
Skimpy clothing is okay as long as you cover certain areas.

When I see an attractive girl (curvey and pretty) I think, "You go girl! And be confident with your body~ WOOWOO!" But if a really skinny girl, who's like all boney does a revealing outfit, I kinda cringe and think, "Ewww..." Horrid, I know. But I think if they've got it, then do it, but if you haven't...Just don't bother XD

Random off topic, but what's with the thin girl hate? I swear people can't make a comment about curvy girls being pretty without adding something along the lines of 'guys don't want a skeleton'. As a girl who eats everything she can and still looks in the mirror and hates how her ribs show, I find it really upsetting and offensive. There are girls who have appearance issues on the other side too. Please think about them before you make another comment like this.

This Topic is such a double edged sword i really think people should stop posting in it, these threads have bad news written all over them O_o one of the things I like about this site is that everyone gets along and it kills me when stuff like this goes down

While not being a huge fan of 'skimpy' cosplays, if someone wants to wear one it's their choice. If they have the confidence, then good on them! Its not what you wear, but how you wear it. One of the skimpiest cosplays I've seen was a Shiva who frankly wasnt wearing much, but she didnt look 'slutty' at all.

Also, does it really matter if someone is curvy or thin. We are what we are. What really matters is that people are comfortable with themselves. But if people keep saying that someone thin is a 'skeleton' and some one with curves is 'fat', that confidence just isnt going to happen.

I dont think it makes you a "slut"
I admire anyone with the guts and confidence to go for it and be confident enough with their body to do so.

¬_¬ Av got no clue.....
You can be in skimpy stuff if ya want hell first opertunity i get in a summer con im doing Franky cosplay Does that make me a man whore?

But unless your actully sleeping with every guy/girl under the sun does it really matter?
Saying that First one to admit i do like the skimpy costumes if just for the eye candy but not gona assume anything more than huh they work out good for them xD

Kudos to them for being able to pull off a skimpy costume and have that much confidence in themselves ! Just by wearing a skimpy outfit does NOT make you a slut. But making a outfit skimpy to get attention is a tad slutty
x

That's a double standard surely, so if you buy it your not a slut but if you make it you are?

Even then in relation to cosplay, cosplay is meant to be an attention seeker, thats the purpose of it right? You wouldn't do it as a means of practicality?

My honest answer to the main question, is why honestly care? It's the same arguement for the lots of sex makes a guy a pimp, but a woman a slut?

My only reason to believe someone's gone OTT with a costume is if they are skimpier than they actually meant to be, because last I thought accuracy of a character an important factor for many?

But all that considered does that even matter then? Really you only need to worry when someone's falling all over your boyfriend?

On the topic of "a girl having lots of sex is a slut but a guy ain't", it's a part of our culture. Not that men are dominant, but the fact that it's generally "harder" for guys to get laid than girls. Why? Because we guys have a more relaxed nature to it than girls.

Most guys are pretty much "spending a night with a cute chick? umm why not? " while girls are often more picky and careful. As this is the norm, the girls who deviate from it are often found to be "slutty" by other girls (Let's be honest, it's far more common for girls to call other girls sluts than it is for boys ).

Also, dont forget: "A lock that is opened by many keys is a bad lock. But a key that opens many locks is a master key"

Gotta disagree here dude. If a guy goes around sleeping with a lot of girls he will eventually get named and shamed both by guys and girls. I've seen it happen to a fair few guys on here for that matter.

I think a lot of more mature females are happy to hang out with boys even if they have no interest in having sex - and again more mature females wouldn't be calling other girls a slut for it. I've always been a guys girl - in so far that I'm a tomboy and prefer video-games to fashion - and have never been called a slut for just hanging out with guys and having a laugh (of course I've been called a slut for other things, but that's a different topic).

Also the quote amusing if it's a joke very craptastic if it's not, but I won't rage about the innuendo for now.

[Off topic again, but you are DMC cosplayer, you coming to the meet on Sat?]

It doesn't matter how often a lock opens for a key, as long as it's the right key, because a lock is only bad if it opens for the wrong one. And the right key is whoever a woman chooses to sleep with.

Your 'master key' sounds suspiciously like a rapist.

..... It was ment as a joke >> chill out bro XD

Shadow: Yes I am coming on sat

And yes, of course men can also be albeled. The term "manwhore" exists for a reason However, it is far more common for girls to be labeled, after all, were having this discussion for a reason aren't we

As happend in an earlier discussion in this thread, I was talking about a majority, sorry for not making that clear ^^*

If you read on cosplay forums, from who do you most often hear stuff like "eeew that guy totally looked at me, he was all ugly". As my quote probably gave away; the girls xD Guys are just voerall more relaxed with everything. Yes, there are exceptions, but I dont ever think I've been "eeew that girl was so ugly and she looked at me" and I don't know any guys that been that way either. But like I said, exceptions do exist.

Edit: I'm curious, how are you going to do Nevan? : o

Your really gonna use the "it was a joke" defense? I mean the internet IS toneless but it is a case of racist jokes are still racist and making it a joke doesn't make it okay.

Tbh i think this whole argument is a bit silly, in my mind its a case of people can have as much sex as they want with who they want as long as everyone involved is happy and agrees to it. I could care less if i get called a slut or man whore simply because i'm happy with the ammount of sex i get!

It was a joke. I got it from a picture I saw on the internet. thats why I posted a "" after I wrote it. You really think that I want to offend people on a cosplay forum jsut for the hell of it? And I thought it was pretty obvious that it was a joke, considering that I had a very neutral stance on the subject to begin with. Also, comparing it to a racist statement is a little bit extreme, don't you think?

But, guess I was wrong on that part. I'm used to this being a very light subject in my group of friends, and we often laugh at the quote that I posted. I didn't know that people felt so strongly about it here. Guess I'll say sorry and leave the discussion, as it doesn't seem to lead to anything good

Yeah, generally speaking people don't find such blatantly sexist "jokes" very funny. Unless they are sexist knuckle-draggers themselves, of course.

I can't begin to articulate how angry the retarded "locks and keys" analogy makes me. It's right up there with the "ladder theory" for misogynistic bullshit that makes me want to punch things.

I hardly think its extreme at all given how strongly people do feel about these things. Well the discussion isn't going to lead into anything good if you don't know how other people feel about it, but at least you get the idea of how differently people feel about this and now your hopefully the wiser for it ^^

Glad to hear brosef :3

Sillabub: That seems to be the order of things here

The reason why me and all my friends are so light on this subject is because we find it a very stupid subject. Of course a girl is no more slutty than a guy if they have sex with the same number of people, or vice verca for that matter. That's why we joke about it, and all I wanted was to get a light chuckle out of people in a thread that seemed to get very heated.

However, people here had very different views on the subject than what I was used to and I guess I did'nt consider that. I removed the comment as I don't think this thread needs anymore flaming.

And nope, I ain't no misogynist. You're talking to a guy who holds doors for ladies and offers to lends them his coat with no strings atached

26 Sep 2010 - 01:0141541
Oh damn what have I started?

Tbh there was no need for this topic really because all it comes down to really is people's opinions because there isn't really a "Fact" that can really be pulled out of all this!
