Cosplay Rituals?
Do any of you guys have any rituals when you cosplay, or do cosplay related things, and if you do what are they?

My cosplay group and I have some strange ones:

-when we are binded we run at each other and bash our chests together.

- A parent has to walk in on us recording (not that we choose to)

- One of us nearly dies.

So, what are yours?

I end up having to go to the hospital or doctors every expo if that counts?

May 2009 my thumb got re-infected and they had to burn it. I was 3 when i cut it off so i dont know what happened.
October 2009 my eye contact melted onto my eye.
May 2010, my friend told me to meet him somewhere and he stood me up basically and it was chucking it down with rain so i ended up getting like a mild flu thing. o_O

Bring on October!

For me it's all with my contacts, the first one has to take 10 minutes of failed attempts and the second one goes in first try... so I get one red eye... one not ><'

And managing to inhale the taste of hairspray everytime I have to spray wigs.. not good ^^'

That always happens to me, or only one of my eyes waters like crazy. And one of us always inhales the wig spray

For some reason before expo or a cosplay event, I accidently hurt myself, like today, I burnt myself when getting out of the oven and JAF is this upcoming weekend and another time when I hurt my ankle the week before expo last last year, fun~ XD

But I manage to get better before, so it's all good~ OTL

I ALWAYS get a cold. Without fail.
And it seems to be ritual for my costume to be bitten at some point.... much to my dismay.
It also seems to ritual that I have feet problems. Like blisters on what WERE comfy shoes, or shoes that grew in my bag and suddnly fail to stay on my feet.

I swear, there really is something magical about expos/cons.... it just doesn't like me.

I know what cosplays i'm taking to a con but not what day i always wait for the weather reports on the day i leave the house before selecting the cosplays most aproprite for the weather.
And it's typicaly the same weather both days.

No matter what event or what Cosplay I always tend to overheat. Even in the skimpy-est of Cosplays the event hall ends up so packed I almost get the acursed heat exhaustion I am quite prone too. -.-*

I guess another ritual that happens with me and me mates tis the early start on the Saturday as it usually takes one of us (if not more) bout two hours to get into our cosplay for the day. Usually that person is me with my total lack of organization but still I wanna get a good spot near the front of the que come opening time! XD

Not exactly as bad as any of these, but I always seem to be earlier than most of my friends at Expo, so I'm always sat on my own waiting for them.

I will invariably have a cold, and I will ALWAYS forget one part of my costume just as I get in the car and have to run back inside for it. Not good when you have to leave at 5:45am

I've never had panic attacks, but I get very nervous, for the same reasons, I hope you have fun at the con BTW.

Well, dunno if this is technically a ritual.

I get pre-cosplay blues. I start to think that everyone at the con is gonna hate my cosplays and say I look shite etc. And I get like "I dunt wanna go to expo/con/etc, I'll look shite compared to everyone else there cause I made my cosplay so it looks shite blah blah blah!" (basically, I have no confidence in my own stuff til I'm actually in them and at the event).

Pre-cosplay blues suck

Never try all the finished bits on together for the first time until the Friday at the con!

1. Do some kind of weird cosplay that I haven't seen before.

2. Add some kind of HUGE hat to demolish the stage lighting / make me easy to be spotted in a crowd.

3. Wear curtain / carpet instead of lightweight cloth.

4. Have breakfast in the hotel in full cosplay to the surprise of the non-expo-goers!

-I usually get rude comments from chavs on my way to the expo and back. = =;

-I always end up either losing some part of my cosplay or getting it torn off or stolen at the expo (shuriken, pieces of sword, hell, even half of my Sephiroth wing xD).

-And I always end up using more money than I'd planned to spend. = =;

Cosplay rituals!

- Buy food from food stores, usually too much.

- Debate over who gets to take the keys to the apartment with them that day.

- Have a corner where people finish off last minute cosplay making/wig styling.

- Get up very early on the Saturday because someone (*cough*Christine*cough*) will spend ages putting on their costume (love you really <3)

- Panic over something that needs fixing.

- Queue up and do random memes while in the queue and learn the life story of the people around you.

That's pretty much it xD

It's the constant suitcase checking for me XD I makea list while it's fresh in my mind and pack those, er~ Also, if I'm up for a meetup, I plan the cosplay the night before and make sure I put small props in the dreaded cosplay draw XD Not really rituals, but habits XD

My left eyelid always seems to get a little swollen the week before an event, which I've always thought is weird. XD
Other than that, me and my friend always have KFC when we go home on the Sunday, then play video games in my back room.

A day, or two, before Expo begins, I usually get some really bad spots. So I have to take extra make-up, and use as much spot treatment stuff I can BEFORE the little so-and-so's can show up.

Also have a bad habit of packing everything at the VERY last minute, even when I've wrote up a list.

When we're close and I have yet to see cosplayers, when I'm cosplaying, I ALWAYS ask whoever I'm with out loud "We came on the right day, right?" no matter how many times I check the day the con is and no matter which con it is...because I worry too much.

Usually like to get a 'before' and 'after' picture of myself and friends of when we came into the con and when we left.
And lately, I finish up a small detail of my cosplay the day before the con, be it at home or in the hotel. Fun times!
