cosplay was in the telegraph recently and they didnt say anything bad about it? =S

Hmmm, I think you probably need to read it again. There was a lot of thinly-veiled insults and stereotyping in that Telegraph article.

Oh sorry I didnt say the artice you meant, I meant a different article about 2 days ago, in the telegraph also, that one didnt say anthing bad.

it's possible that after the slamming they got for previously allowing such a nasty article to be published, that they wanted to do a "damage limitation" article. i think they got a far bigger angry response than they expected from the first article.

Yeah, tbh I think some people are just the type to write badly of everything.

Somehow, just hearing the name "Snog, Marry, Avoid" has always made me want to punch things. Possibly because in my mind it just sounds like a particularly stupid attempt to sanitise "Kiss, Marry, Kill", and that grates.

In any case, yeah. No.

I also got a Facebook message from this chap asking me to go on Snog Marry Avoid.
What I want to know is how he saw all my photos and such. My details are set to friends only...

Seems more like this is one of those programs that are similar to certain people. You know, the type that make jokes and says things at your expense, but never clearly. As it stands, it's a show that mocks individuality and, from what I've read about what happened to others, takes advantage of people and actually lies in order to get pieces.

With the telegraph article... I find this really amusing. Just how... rabbit in the headlights the reporter was amused me to no end. Felt sorry for the Kon cosplayer - some people just don't do so well when asked questions by people they don't know (I don't do so well, I'm awfully shy in person lol).

But I suppose that Snog Marry Avoid is a marmite program. Or similar to how Frankie Boyle is viewed; some love him, others find him as offensive.

Agree with the ladies above~ They will just rip the Cosplay scene apart, Their goal isn't to promote unique social lives but to poke fun at them and gain more viewers.

Very frustrating and sad :c

Exactly! Well said! These people aren't worth the time, the more ppl that refuse the less chance of the program actually airing in the first place.

Sadly, facebook isn't as secure as you might think it is. You might want to recheck your privacy settings. I've had to do it about 3 times now.

I've known a couple of people who have been on this program and sadly the bad stuff is just restricted to cosplayers. I would avoid it.

Pez, I liked your e-mail and would love to hear about the repsonse if there is one.

Ryaoki, XD XD.

Sorry only just checked back.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/culturepicturegalleries/7919074/Cosplay-the-Hong-Kong-Comics-Festival-and-China-Digital-Entertainment-Expo-ChinaJoy-in-Shanghai.html

Its picture gallery in the culture section about the Hong Kong Comics Fest, just a picture gallery with a bit of pretty unbiased information on cospay and what it is.

This makes me want to Rage :c .

Every point above is valid and the show is a little pathetic if you managed to live through an entire episode :\

Just got through reading all of this (plus had a big discussion with my dad about it, and watched an episode) and now im gonna say my bit:
On the surface this show looks harmless, but when you really look at what it is doing, you see the obvious intent behind every edit and shot and dialogue used, but this is all covered up with the false outcome of doing them a favour and making them look pretty, but it can really humiliate the person on the recieving end, like in the episode I watched, there was a punk couple and I thought they looked alright, nothing really wrong with their look, also they were obviously happy with the way they currently were, but the programme didnt even focus on them that long, and when it did they focused on unecessary things and argh. In the end they looked better as they were before the make under, and the make under was obviously half-hearted, and the things the pod said to them was kinda cruel, but it always is, isn't it.

Because I had heard about it and never saw this part but basically this is the nearest comparable example to what they what to do, the Miiol refference from earlier:

Miiol (about 3:19)

aww, the first make under on that clip are friends of mine, emily and cj. they said the staff were really quite pleasent, but they didnt like the make-under at all, and wernt best pleased with the edited footage.

i actually love the show, i know alot of you would disagree, but im a fan of reality tv, and the almost delusional way some girls see themself in the show (thats what i watch it for i guess)
saying that though, i'd never consider signing up for it myself :/

I think the directors and producers of this program should be ashamed of themselves! I'm sure they themselves would not want to be ridiculed in front of millions of people, so why subject others to it!? It's the abuse that sprouts from these types of progammes that ruins people's lives! The same with places on the internet like 4chan.

Why is it that people have to rip the piss out of something or someone that dresses or looks different? and now they are trying to drag hobbies such as cosplay into the mix as well!? While we cosplayers work hard to create dreams to help escape our nasty realities they have nothing better to do than find every angle to bully us....what happened to promoting youths social activities and hobbies? At least we don't hang around on the streets in gangs and attack people...

okay I fear I have gone just a little bit off topic here...but my point is...these are adults we are talking about...and adults behind the mask of a well established company...and instead of backing youths in their interests to be different, social and inspiring...they plant them on a stage and make a freak show out of them...this program should be banned! and if not...the people invited to be on the show should not be given FALSE information...they have the right to know that all content may not be used in the final cut and they have a right to know what the true intentions of the programm are!

Also, I think that Miiol is a wonderful cosplayer and person. I think her accent/voice is beautiful and unique. I don't know her very well, but I know she is a kind person who deffinately didn't deserve this treatment! No one does. It has to stop!

those are the kind of show that irritate me just about making people into a genric normal look, to apeal to others and take all your character and personality away makin you look boring, its ok to try out changing your look at seeing what you think but they have one set idea how you must look.

i really dont understand why they would want a cosplayer on there as cosplaying is about a fun hobby do they want to change people and take everything intresting out of life, i really dont think it would do you any favours to go on there its just a show to change people to how they think is socially acceptable.

Just a quick note, next time ask permission before posting a video of someone as it may upset them. It's not nice to be reminded of a bad memory and the BBC are meant to have removed all traces of this online as an apology to Miiol. I understand that you're only posting to help us prove the point though

I have watched the show before and I had thought with a lot of them...thats going too far I think. My friends and I watched it and sometimes we would just be confused about what they were saying because they looked fine.

I have only been cosplaying for a year and I know how badly we get protrayed and as people said it has to stop...other people can have hobbies and not get the abuse so why should we?

Anyone who gets this message just dont do it...it's not worth it and miiol I dont mean to bring it up but I watched that episode a while ago and I thought you looked amazing...I didnt understand why you were treated like that...*hugs*

But I will check up on this again to get an update

Miiol, you have a really pretty accent... <3

I don't see how a show can get away with such narrow-minded views. Would the right word to descibe it be dogmatic?

13 Aug 2010 - 14:2838660
The same people who make that show came up to me and my friend in Birmingham asking if we had any quirky habits or such, I wonder what that program ended up as. I had a go at them for Snog, Marry, Avoid and the miiol situation xD. No one picks on my BRO xD.

They were actually asking about Cosplay and Furries (and I mean FURRIES) then, so beware they may be putting the two into the same subsection.

There's nothign wrong with 90% of the furry fandom ¬_¬
Please don't generalise and lump everyone in with the ones you see on CSI and hear abotu on 4chan.....

I've seen bits of this show before and thought it seemed pretty terrible. I'm kind of stunned that a program which ritually demoralizes and humiliates people for expressing their individuality has been running for this long!
Having read most of this thread I'm also pretty appalled at hearing how they've mis-represented people through editing.

However, I watched the clip just to be informed and i think Miliol and the others shown managed to present themselves pretty well despite the derogatory comments from pod. Miliol you look gorgeous! Wish i had more clothes like that and your hair is awesome!

Having read the recent article on aya (from the telegraph was it?) as well I'm feeling pretty depressed about peoples close-minded opinions of anyone non-mainstream. As a society we should be encouraging growth through individuality and creativity rather than suppressing it with narrow-minded bullying shouldn't we?!
