Hey and welcome! Unfortunately I'm not very close to Essex, but I'm sure you'll be able to find people in your area. (Since I moved away from Southampton I found there were tonnes of cosplayers hanging around the area that I never knew of - sods's law really!)

Otherwise, travelling to conventions is always a good chance to meet up with people.

I used to live in Essex (Southend on Sea yeah!) but I moved to Cambridge for my job.

If nothing else you can always meet up with people at events, you should be in a good location for things in London.
