I got some amusing (well, they are to me...) tales xD
Once I was coming home from a Hetalia meet still in my italy wig, curl and all, and I walked in to a newsagents and the guy was putting out stock or something and he asked me what my curl was all about, and ending up touching it, it was so awkward and he had no clue X'D
(for people who don't get this, the curl in Italy's hair is his 'erogonous zone' X'D) of course I didn't tell him what it REALLY was, I just said it was an accessory :/
-
Another time was at Midlands expo. Me and the people I was sharing a room with got questioned by this woman about what was going on, which then turned in to a big discussion and she ended up bringing her husband and kids into it, and I think she said she was thinking it was something nice to maybe bring her kids to one day haha, we gave birth to some cosplayers c':

God, I love this thread, it's hilarious xD

As for me, I once cosplayed as Sephiroth from Final Fantasy, and as I was on the train, this man suddenly comes behind me and tears off my wing just when the doors opened and he ran off with I suppose, his friends who were waiting for him and he kept on screaming 'I GOT SEPHIROTH'S WING!!!!!'. I have to admit, I was pissed off but I shrugged it off since it was pretty funny and went to the expo as Sephiroth, the half-winged angel. XD

On the previous May expo, I went dressed in a lolita outfit, not exactly skimpy since that'll attract attention on my way to the expo, but it wasn't exactly casual attire. Anyway, as I was heading home with my friends, these dudes come over (probably 16-18) and make commments on my dress, ask for my phone number, ask if I wanna head over to their house, ask for a free hug, etc. Obviously, I'm annoyed so I just say 'dude, sorry, but I'm a lesbian.' (Actually, I'm not, I was just trying to get them to stop hitting on me. xD) But frustratingly enough, it just turned them on even more. = =; So my friends and I just took a run for it and jumped up on the bus which came just in time. xD Ran into a lot of rude chavs but we had fun pissing them off with our bluntness. ^^

I've had several experiences but both the good and bad experiences have made me stronger as a person. ^_^

Bad experience I had was when I was cosplaying Princess Ai a couple of years ago at MCM Expo when the peace conference thingy was going on (I'm sure nearly everyone will remember THAT expo!) and some muslim guy with his mate walked past me and my mom and called out rudely "Put some clothes on!" i was like 0_o "I AM wearing clothes!! see! Top, bodice, shorts, skirt, tights.. SHOES!" Obviously not to them, but when they walked off far enough away. LOL!

The BEST ever reaction was at disney on ice last year, and I went as Ariel in her blue town dress. After about half an hour of getting through the o2 doors I had young girls (between and 13 at a guess) hyperventilating and screaming at their parents "MOM! ARIEL IS WALKING AMONGST US! LOOK! LOOOOOOKKKKKKK!!!!! ITS ARIEL MOM!!! OH MY GOD IT'S ACTUALLY HER!! ISN'T SHE SO BEAUTIFUL!!??" So I spent most of the time before the arena doors opening waving and talking to the kids. They really didn't see through the costume, it just utterly made my month! Once the doors were opn and we got to our seats, this young girl beside me literally forced her gran to switch seats so she was sitting next to me and as she put it "to sing with Ariel" XD!!! Also, a girl behind me kept stroking my wig because she was fascinated by the long red hair.

So it's no surprise that at the upcoming disney on ice I'm going as Ariel again lol. But it really is so I can be my childhood idol again. Honest!

I don't really go in public outside of con areas in cosplay (if I travel in cosplay it's only a couple of bits with a jacket over) so I haven't really had any comments. I remember one time (my first expo actually) when I was on the train with a friend. I was too excited about expo I didn't notice if anyone was staring XD

I do remember a time at Minamicon, I was back in the hotel after cosplaying Phoenix Wright, so my eyebrows had been pencilled black and stuff. There were some people at the desk (non-con I think) and they gasped at me and said "is that your real hair?!" not in a bad way, in an omg-that's-epic way. I might have dissapointed them when I told them it was just a wig, but goes to show how realistic a wig can be XD

I posted in here a couple of weeks ago saying I've never had any really rude comments and today I am here to sadly retract that!
I took the train to go to the nearest hobbycraft (in stevenage) with a friend and went in my big platform lolita shoes and some pretty ambitious pattern mixing and puffy skirts and jewellry etc and when we were waiting for our train home a bunch of chavs walked over the bridge near us and one of them started shouting 'oh look at her, doesn't she know it looks shit...blah de blah de blah.'
Now I really don't give a crap what they think but it's kind of disappointing if nothing else! I'm pretty sure I've never seen a guy like that brave enough to make those kinds of insults on his own and within retaliation distance. They could at least have the guts to say it to your face.

On a side note, does anyone else find it bizarre in some way to get derogatory comments on your fashion sense from someone who's sporting a shiny tracksuit and a fake diamond pierced ear?

P.s: That Ariel story is just adorable! If I could stand that much prolonged attention from small children I'd definitely want to try something similar!

Thats a shame you got that reaction but yeah.. i get that sort comment in my normal clothing from the exact same type of person. I feel like turning round and saying "umm... have you looked in the mirror at yourself?? Because I'm pretty sure you're talking about your own fashion 'sense'"

And thank you, I still get a kick out of remembering that story! haha!

Awww, this is adorable! So's the Ariel story. Kids can be so cute. :3

The only really memorable thing I've ever been asked is "where's the rave?" I suppose it made sense considering I had brightly coloured hair and a jumpsuit on at the time, but it amused me to no end.

I've had a lot of reactions, more than one rudely said to my face, but I'll give you a good reaction XD
Right now, I have a Xiaolin Showdown in progress cosplay up, but I found an old picture of me cosplaying Raimundo before it all went MISSING XD
I remember it well...*siiiigh* XD
A bunch of little kids were running up to me and happily spazzing over me. One even asked me for an autograph and one said 'Have you asked Kimiko out yet?' to which I just laughed out loud, sadly it made the kid upset that I wasn't going out with Kimiko XD
Though for bad reactions, I was dressed as Kukai from Shugo Chara!, I was walking to Pizza hut to meet with friends (who were cosplaying too XD) and a group of 5-6 chavs surrounded me and started laughing in my face :/ the funniest thing was, one commented on the star in my hair 'Awww, ain't that sweet you little gay boy, you got a pretty star in ya haaair'...umm...ok...I instantly retorted quite simply 'I'm a girl.' They kept going though, until I started 'crying' (cuz I'm sneaky) cuz I saw a Policeman and he chased them away for me...HURHURRRR I WOOOON XDD

A very small girl was terribly concerned about me when I was dressed as Amy from Soul Calibur.

"Why are you clothes like that?" she asked, pointing at my sleeves. (The sleeves are just attached to the top at the bust, rather than there being anything going over the shoulder.)

"Well, that's just how it is," I reply.

"But what will you do if it falls off?" she asks with wide, horrified eyes.

"Um, panic?"

Me crossplaying Ange from Umineko at Auchinawa. This old lady who is one of the staff said my suit was really nice.
Her: "What room you in?"
Me: "I'm sure you could find out."
Friend next to me: "Think you just pulled."

That was amusing. XD

I've had several on the way to expo.

1. Boy with a group of people who tried to convert us;

Him: "What are you dressed as? And why?"
Me:"Oh, we're going to this con... And we're dressed as characters with magic powers."
Him: "Oh, so like superheroes?"
Me: "... yeah, easier to explain that way"
My Friend: "I'm not a superhero! I'm a GODDESS! *dramatic pose*"
Him: ".... You're a bit weird, aren't you?"

made us lol

2. On our way from travelodge, but got a little lost.
Little old lady hobbled as fast as she could to us rather excitedly.
"I'm sorry, but I've see so many people in these colourful costumes! Can you explain to me?"
We explain.
Her: "that's really interesting! I saw some other costumed people go down that road there! I hope that helps!"

Nice little lady...

then, when I went to a ReCon as Reno.

"Hey Reno! You doin' okay?" No idea who the hell he was...

And, when two friends were doing film coursework so dressed as Sora and Riku, two chavs walked past.
"Hey! Do you need someone to be Mickey? Kingdom Hearts is a fucking awesome game!!!"

EDIT:

Also, in Pizza Hut for one bday in cosplay... We got a discount for being "interesting" XD

And got the "weird look" in Sandringham Woods...

This one happened today!! XDD
I was just doing a make up test for Miku/Mikuo's Matryoshka varient (he/she/it basically looks insane XDD) and I had the blue hair and make up
Dad asked if I could take the bins out and it was a case of 'do it now or I'll rant all day' XD so I ran and did it in the make up and wig and there were a few ten year old chavs playing football on the street...Their faces when I came out looking insane actually half singing Matryoshka 'O________O' I just heard one say 'is that...is that her real hair? And...what's with her...make up?' they were so confused, it was hilarious XDD I just waltzed back in the house quite happy with myself XD

Haha I was sitting in Liverpool Street in my Amulet Fortune cosplay and someone shouted "Look! Its Lady Gaga!" at me.

I'm not sure whether I was offended or complimented XD

It was after the Expo, me and my friends were in Bleach uniform waiting for the coach back to where we were from in Victoria Coach Station. Just overheard someone said, ''apparently there's a conversion for freaks'' I wasn't sure if he's referring to the Expo, or he just being really mean >.<

Since then I always get changed in Con, and try to be more ''civilised'' in normal days.

Y'shouldnt have to bend yourself to that, I've gone through London as Scar from FMA ;D

There's bound to be a bit of stick, but until I get publically lynched I'll travel in cosplay if needed :3

LOL! That had me in stitches.

I have a couple (amazed that I hadn't posted before). One which is me the other is a friend. Both at Oct Expo 2008.

When dressed as Sephiroth I got people from the other event (some Islamic convention. Not 100% what it was) coming over asking about my eyes. I was wearing my green cats eyes contacts at the time. Many from the other event came over and asked if they were my real eyes. After about the 30th time of asking, I eventually said, "yes". XD XD

The next day when the Trinity Blood group that I became part of met for the first time. We met in the food court bit outside the hall for lunch. A small child from the same Islamic convention got all really excited when he spotted Nocturnal Blossom, who was dressed as Sister Noelle. When he saw her he kept shouting "A NUN, A NUN!!" as if she was a celeb. XD XD. We thought it was so cute. He couldn't have been more than six or seven years old.

I was on the tube to catch my train home after LFCC once & I heard this couple talkin & the girl was like..

'Did you see all those people dressed up, it was really weird what was it for?'

'i think its just how they show their love for a character, etc'

*dramatic pause*

'yeah... but its really ... DARK'

hahaha

My best friend goes to Keele Uni, so she was telling me about the reactions of her lectures to Amecon, as they were still doing research and work up at the uni during Amecon weekend.

Lol I've had experiences like that dressed in normal clothes! Queuing for gigs, you always get the aforementioned group driving past and shouting stuff, thinking they're so clever and it's never been done before ¬¬.

I was waiting in line for I think it was an Alkaline Trio gig (could have been Disturbed) and this car drove past with one passenger screaming "Emoooooooooooos!" out the window. All I could think was "God, if you're going to insult us, at least get your genres right" XD.

Was there anyone here on the Tube for last October Expo when I think it was at Bank station, some guy started yelling, thinking all the cosplayers were into voodoo? I wasn't in costume at the time but I still found it freaking hilarious.

I went out for a photo shoot in the snow dressed as Fai from Tsubasa and there was a young girl and her mum and dad walking past. The girl ran up to me and shouted 'Wow, Mum look! It's the snow queen!'

It was so cute ^-^ Although a bunch of chavs threw snowballs at me later... Ah well, as long as it amuses their small brains.

I was on a train dressed as Leon Kennedy and my friend was Magical Trevor, and this guy and hi wife were asking us loads of questions. It turns out he was the brother of the uncle (or something) of a really good friend of mine, who I used to sit next to in GCSE English.
