Your stereotype
Hey guys~! So I was wondering if any of you guys get categorized by your friends as one specific stereotype, and if you do, which one?

~Emo
~Goth
~Indie (Artists included)
~Jock
~Cheerleader (well, not literally xD)
~Normal girl/boy
~Class clown (doesn't have to be 'class', I'm just categorizing in high school stereotypes)
~Nerd (XD)
~Geek
~Chav (~.~)

etc. (I don't know any more xD)

I was also thinking that the type of person/ stereotype you are kind of affects whether or not you cosplay, but that's just a thought. I mean, you don't see many chavs or cheerleaders/jocks cosplaying, do you? Most of my friends that cosplay are known as emos and indie kids. I'm also known as an indie kid (I'm usually seen drawing at my college or outside, such as Oxford st., Covent Garden, or Greenwich Park and the genre of music that I listen to is categorized as 'indie' xD).

Thoughts, please? ^__^

My friends definately see me as a nerd, they said that because I cosplay and watch anime and like learning which is sad really XD

Fortunately I've left them and got a great friend who's into the stuff I am

It's mainly based on stereotypes, I mean it's not stereotyping but every cosplayer I've met has been lovely

My friends don't catagorise me =P lol I used to get shoved under the "goth" stereotype, but since I started cosplaying (I stopped wearing "goth" attire) I just get refered to as being alternative... ¬.¬ alternative to what may I ask? lol I don't take stereotypes too seriously but humans need to labbel things it's in our nature we like to know what's what (or atleast have a rough idea)

this is a weird subject for me!

i often feel a bit left out of the alternative and cosplay scenes for being a bit chavvy (trendy) =/

its not like im a shell suit idiot who goes around bullying people >.< i mean i like club and pop music, some of the trendy fashion and i get on well with loadsa types of people!

but some people dont understand that its not that i choose to be only that, its that i feel i can have fun with whatever crowd of people i want to =)! i still cosplay and im pretty nerdy, i go to trendy and alternative places and have all types of friends =3

i guess as long as i have fun and people are nice then i feel i can fit in wherever i want! ^_^

Class clown/chav/popular

I'm popular, dress like a chav and make people laugh

I'm mostly stereotyped as a closed up and shy person, but then some of my other friends would call me outspoken and outgoing? >_<

Its kind of werid becuase when i cosplay i don't really feel the need to express myself out off cosplay. I can be a different person in cosplay (the character) but then its hard to find who i am out of cosplay since i've got so many characters i've been in cosplay.

I've always been the nerd... to well everyone. I've been seen as the tech go to guy and been used like a walking encyclopedia.
Although to the chavs back in my school days I for some reason was catagorised as one of the "goffs" because I had long hair and black clothing. Funnily that was it, I had nothing clothing wise considered goth style. XD

I've come under emo, goth, nerd and geek.
Although it's not necessarily friends who have labelled me so.

My friends call me unique as i dress rather differently, mix my clothes up a bit. Though my mother makes some of my clothes so i don't wear brand clothes or anything from known shops. But others who i don't know call me anything they can think of.. which is rather stupid, but we all get it :'D

I've never really thought about me fitting a stereotype...and now that I do, I guess I don't really have one.
If anything I seem to have naturally avoided sticking with just one group in favour of wandering around between several. It's a good question though if particular stereotypes get sucked in to cosplaying, for me though it's more that I just tend to join in with any group that looks fun.

To be honest though out of all the groups I get into got to say Cosplaying is the hardest, think it might be how few occasions to see people in person their are (Then again it could also be I hardly ever seem to sign in here )

Anyway I'm now determined to come up with a new stereotype to fit me...

Goth/Emo/Nerd most probably. Though most of the time it's not my friends that catergorize me like that. It's people that don't know me really and such.

what's the difference between nerd and geek again? Well, geek sounds more retarded, so I'll go for that one. definitely the geek.

From what I understand from my sci-fi con friends that Nerd is someone who is more into computers and a Geek is more into sci fi programs/movies. Both do tend to like similar things. It dose depend on what you prefer more.

I class myself as a Geek becasue although I like pc's I do prefer to watch sci-fi programms and movies.

On to the topic question. I am me. I try not to fit into a label as I don't like it. If I was to say I was one then I am a classic goth (origainl 80's).

I've always thought that a nerd was someone who would get all the good grades, homework always in on time, etc etc. And a geek is when they're into things like sci-fi, anime/manga, etc.

Me, I reckon I'm probably just a geek. Maybe an all-rounder too? Or your 'average joe'. I dunno, I don't fall into many stereotypes xD;

Geek and nerd are an odd one. Cause depending on your upbringing they mean different things.

For me, geek is the bookish, smart one who gets the grade etc

Nerd is the sci-fi, computer tech one.

But I'm a utter dork. Which, for me, is the smart yet stupid sort of person. I enjoy being an utter dork. It's very fun

Depends which friends I'm with! Some of my more 'nerdy' friends jokingly call me a chav because I go to raves and stuff and have gotten pretty wasted and stuff xD and they don't. I dunno what other friends think of me in terms of stereotypes but I don't really care as long as they think of me as a friend!! The general consensus among all my friends is that I'm pretty strange so I must be doing something right (Y)

Chavvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv. Because well, I am really, so the other types of people tend to call me it a lot, harr.
A lot of my chav friends don't know I cosplay, I hang around with chavs, and get drunk sometimes.

I also get called a sadist because I'm sickly obsessed with Resident Evil/Silent Hill :B

I'ma Geek/Nerd. Always have been labelled that way, and I really don't care.

In all honesty, I'll be the first one to admit that I'm a geek.

I met you twice today.
What i want to say is that cosplay is a fantastic thing which you should keep on, whatever others say. And i never been called as a freak. I have some friends who like cosplay, anime but also others who have no interest in cosplaying.
So, cosplay is just one part of your life.

I used to call myself a geek/nerd around my friends, until one of my classmates (whom I didn't expect to hear this from) said "You're not, you're YOU". Note, I was telling him about cosplay and how I spend my weekends with friends (playing games etc.... not getting drunk). It kind of touched me... mostly beucase I never expected him to say that.
I now don't normally catergorise myself, beucase I am fairly mixed anyway ^^

Well, mine has changed a lot. I used to be considered a jock for a while because I was half decent at running. Then got considered an indie kid for knowing a lot of music. Now a geek as I went into Sixth form as I work a little bit. They were always more of a joke however, except the geek one
