Im working on a wolf fursuit head to and i have looked around at tutorials and videos on youtube, but i think the best way to make it would be to use balaclava. this allows easier storage and it should last longer too.
Using the balaclava hood you use two pieces of elastic one that will go from the top of your head to the bottom jaw and under.

With the jaw i would suggest maybe making the jaw completely separate then placing some elastic around it so it attaches around the head but you might have to place something (once on) on to hold the elastic up on the back of your head.

Then when furring some people will fur everything but make it flap over a bit so basically like this: http://fryfuzzmutt.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2kpn31
and to give it good shape with the neck and such just sew it closer, then you can decide on how fluffy you wish it to be or trim what ever you please.

Hope this helps (:

i think i might have figured it out.
on the wolf head its face will be white, while the rest of the head will be grey.
the face would come way and slide back in using a simple slide and lock system staring at the neck
and the joint between the head and face will be hidden by the change of fur

its a rough idea, but i'll see.

any other idea's are more then welcome

as someone who's made a couple of fursuits, and as a friend of someone who's made a load... it won't work ;x

the seam will be very visible and the front will be prone to falling off.

I used this tutorial when making my Wolf Link

She's got some lovely visual tutorials on there, I'd suggest having a look around whether you decide to use them or not ^^

i know what you mean xaerael, but i think got it working. well the head design at least.

build a 2 scale model and it working fine for not, was one hell of a pain in the ass to figure out.
Using the intel provided by Chibi (THANK YOU), specs from medieval helmets and some good old high powered magnets.

hay presto

the face lifts up on BB hinges then slides out on two rails, which goes deep into the head and the bottom is held by magnets and a simple clip.
kind of like a police riot helmet

just need to sort out the fur next
