Cosplayers in the Birmingham UK
There isn't a 'searching for' thread here on Cosplay Island so here goes. I am a student at the University of Birmingham (UK) and I was seriously considering forming a student run cosplay and costuming society.

I just wanted to know if there were any people who would be able to meet on a semi-regular basis on the University campus? It would be a great new society, with access to Student Guild funding and rooms to work in. I guess I quite like the idea of my University subsidising my habit.

It doesn't matter whether or not you are a student at the university any society is able to recruit from outside of the Guild, I just wanted to post this and make sure I wasn't the only cosplayer in the Birmingham area. SO if any of you guys feel like this would be for you, post here or message me back. ^_^

Seriously?

... I'm sorry, hearing this just made me spaz like crazy. I'm not in term time at the minute -- I'll be going back up Newcastle over the summer, but will be coming back down, after summer -- and I attend Birmingham Institue of Art and Design.

During term, I have quite a few free time to myself [if I'm not doing art] and I would love to be part of an actual group, to do with cosplay.
I also have to try ad restrict how much money I spend, since I'm living so far away, LOL, but Hell yes, I love the idea of this.

Absolutely it's a serious idea! I will be in my second year next year, and so long as you can make it to the University at some points during the week. I figured we could use society storage for big costume pieces so you don't have to lug them back across town.

And as far as membership goes, you have to pay to join the guild/student union, then society membership then that's yours for the year. And if you are a member of UofB then guild membership is free.

And if you have friends who want in, do let them know I'll keep this thread open, but I might set up a facebook page or something. Just so long as I can get my 20 then I'll be happy. I tried contacting the Birmingham Cosplay group, but they haven't got back to me.

I'll be in my second year, when I come back as well, so 'ey, s'all good~ will you be able to organise the group around your studies? Cuz I can make sure I attend, and do my studies, at the same time.

I won't mind paying in that case, then, if it's not free for me. Might be, though - I'm not actually sure, LOL.

But yeah, this idea deserves the go-ahead. I would let my friends know, but they're all moving to different universities around the UK, ahha.

Yes, I can absolutely fit it in around my studies, it would probably be one afternoon/evening and one weekend time. I'm sorry ^^;;; I wish I could make it free for everyone, but I don't make the guild rules. I shall certainly have to post more info when it eventually happens!

My insurance uni is Birmingham so in the event that my first choice falls through and I end up in Brumland, I'd be glad to say hello every now and then and maybe help out with stuff, though I probably wouldn't join the guild as I have retired from cosplaying.

I live near Birmingham ^^

If you are looking to meet other cosplayers in the area then you might want to go along to one of the monthly cosplay meets they have ( I know it has already been said). I go to them every now and them when I have the time, it's a great way to make new friends!
