Hello, I'm not a new cosplayer but this is the first time I'm delving into actually buying fabrics and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good fabric shops in London - preferably central London or the Holloway/Islington area in the northeast. The particular material I'm looking for is one that has or can be given the texture of Medieval skin clothes - sheepskin and the like (without the fur). That tough, rough-looking type of clothing, the kind that barbarians would have made all their garments out of. Obviously not expecting to find sheepskin, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a fabric that had this texture and look or could be made to (and where I might find it)?
Many thanks! |

Do you mean a suede? Suede is made when they take a sheet of leather and split it apart and dry out the squishy insides to make a soft nap. You can get faux suede in most fabric shops, I definitely know fabric land does it. I would recommend goldhawk road tube station. There are many fabric shops just outside of it and you can walk through to shepherds bush from there. -Tab |

Central london: Berwick street, just off oxford st (Tottenham court road end) beard papas on the corner Several shops, not necessarilly cheap though Personally I always go to Shepherds Bush, big selection and usually pretty cheap, but that's west dont know if either place will have what you need I know the ones you mentioned on Berwick Street, the reason why it's expensive is there's a fashion college nearby, and the shop make money of the students. Shepherd's Bush and Southall are the places where I usually go for fabric. They have really cheap stuff. |
