Sailor Moon/Sera Myu EMERGENCY help please!!!
I'm making the Sera Myu version of Sailor Mars and I need to finish it by next week as I'm presenting the cosplay at Bristol Comic Expo.

However, I'm stuck on the sleeves and tubing around the waist!

I tried using Lynleigh's pattern for the padded part of the sleeves (www.lynleigh.com/cosplay) but it doesn't seem to be working. I'm thinking maybe I've just made the armholes too small or need to add extra circumference to accommodate for the padding? What method have other people used?

About the waist tubing ~ I was planning on using tubular foam but nowhere seems to sell it any more and I couldn't find it online either. Does anyone know a place I can buy the foam or whether there's a better way of making it?

Any help appreciated as I'm not presenting NAKED!!!

Uwaah~ so much drama

hmmmm... ok well the tubing...it's gonna need to be flexable.... is YOURS flexable?

i was in a fabric shop the other day and found this tubing stuff that was really flexable. it was like the plastic chinese finger traps you can buy? it was that sort of thing but you could buy it in huge long strips. it wasn't too expensive and as soon as i saw this post i though "well that seems like the perfect thing!"
it collapses on itself if you squeeze it but it pops right back up again when you let go!

i don't think it was too expensive..... but it might be the kind of thing more craft stores have because the shope had a sample that had beads and things inside....

for the life for me i don't know what it's called though!

foam tubing makes me think of the things lil' kids use to learn how to swim, i don't know the width you need but you could always cut it down?they usually sell them at pools.

I'd suggest using quilt batting. Not sure if it could be difficult to get it neat and even, but I think it would be an effective and flexible way to go about it.

I think some cosplayers have used thick piping cord to pad out the tubes, but I imagine that would cause problems for trying to get the "v" shape at the front of the waist roll, but it could be something to look for!

I'd just use trapunto quilting method. It'll be the best way to give you that look and get the clean cut lines you need.

Essentially it's just stitching two layers of fabric together, turning them to make a finished shape and then carefully cutting through the backing layer, adding a small amount of wadding and then hand stitching the seam closed.

Using that method you can get the effect of tubing but without the seam line at the centre front or buckling of the fabric.

It's kinda hard to explain but if you want further details I can do so.
