To Those Who Went, How was it? (MCM Expo London)
I didn't get to go today. How was it?

I'll be there tomorrow for sure.

Or is no one here until after expo is over?

lol just got back from expo. highlight - meeting starman!!!

It was way fun in terms of seeing cosplays and such, but the organisation of the Expo itself was... well, at least compared with other events I've been to outside UK, pathetic. Not much seems to have improved over the years.

Also, the actions of a few can spoil the fun for the others. Like today (Sunday), I was wandering around with my girlfriend wearing David Cameron and Nick Clegg masks for some lol. Most people took it really well, but then there was this kid who decided that I was responsible for young people losing discounted/free travel because I had a Cameron mask on. He then proceeded to charge at me with a wooden sword. I had a sign that's made of cardboard to defend myself with. 1) It's not my fault about his free travel, 2) it's not funny, 3) he poked a hole in my prop, which I was using to shield my face. Which meant he could easily have poked his sword INTO MY FACE.

NOT FUNNY.

Then, as we were going up the stairs, some other kid ran up behind us and pretended to slit my throat with a plastic throwing dagger. I was on the stairs with limited vision. ALSO NOT FUNNY.

How the hell do people cope when they're actually in big armours or fursuits? I only had a mask on and I could hardly stand it already.

Anyway. Just because people are dressed as a character or person you don't like, it doesn't mean they ARE the person you don't like. Don't attack them for god's sake. Weapons are for posing with, not for swing at other people. And don't play on the steps/stairs arghhhhhh.

i think may 2010 was a little bit..how should i say.. dry?
i mean - there were so many fabulous cosplayers (as usual ^^) but i mean the event itself was quite bland, there wasnt too much excitement and energy than there usually is..
i was quite disappointed

but the tekken6 group in the sunday masquerade were A-MAZ-ING! *clapclap*

It was fun with my friends~! We made the most of it!

But there were quite a few downsides.
Also the over crowding was a huge problem, we could bearly walk round the expo hall to look at stalls and left after only 30 mins, they should realise that people with fagile costumes adn big cameras need space to move and also when people get stopped for photos every 5 mins in a very warm crowded area is really hard. Either there should be a limit on how many should be in the expo hall (shopping part) and just let people few in at a time as people go out or get a bigger Hall.

Also as Pez said we witnessed a sceene where my friend was getting her photo took by a boy in a like hard to move costume and he got tackle hugged from behind causing him to drop his phone - I know the person didnt mean to do this but maybe people should give warning if they want to glomp people? So it stops people breaking fragile cosplays or any of there belongings.

Not to seem like a moody cow here. But over all it was a fun weekend Maybe go next october, maybe. XD

I enjoyed myself, although i was a little disappointed at the beginning of Sunday (my non-repairable costume)

Everyone around the Cosplay Desk were SOOOOOO helpful, I cannot even begin to stress just how much they saved me and my suit. Lunar_Kitten, I'm looking at you here ;p

Spotters are our friends.
I don't think I speak for everyone here, but personally for me, I was able to "cheat" by only putting on the helmet when people took photos.

I think that your cosplay was primarily Mask and Sign, so you needed both to work, but with a fursuit/armor, people (hopefully) can tell what the suit is without the helmet/mask/head etc
I did cringe a bit when people called me and pheebs transformers on different and numerous occasions.

Sorry to hear about your incidents as well.
There was a really good post on the mcm forums about "behaviour around fursuiters" which ultimately applied to most cosplays out there.
I'm lucky I didn't get glomped, but I did get knocked around a little

I also agree that the Tekken6 performance was top notch. brightened up my weekend

Also just wanted to say, great job to all those costumes out there. see you all in October

30 May 2010 - 23:2732933
wow that really sucks pez D: I have to say I'm usually pretty lucky when it comes to avoiding the free huggers / attackers...
maybe I just seem a bit imposing or something?

My only major niggle this time was the whole giant queue to actually get into the queue to get the wristbands... then once we had the wristbands (by this point the queue was all moving for people to go in) having to walk up and down the length of the hall several times to get out again, I get the barriers when the queue wasn't moving but maybe they could've removed some bits to make the walking less.

God this... Spent ages walking up and down, it was so pointless. And that's what killed my feet and gave me my first blisters of the day. Heels do not appreciate needless walking!

for my first time it was brilliant

but yeah, overcrowding was a bit of a problem, they coulda easily used a second hall i reckon and spread it out more, trying to look at all the stalls was a pain, and organisation was a bit slack, especially the queue and timing for the masqurade. Apart from that throughly enjoyed myself and will be back again in october.

Saturday was a bit boring for me. My feet killed and my costume was falling apart XD And because of the rain there were lots of people inside and it was VERY crowded D8

Sunday was AMAZING though. I was Serah Farron in the Final Fantasy XIII group :3 It was also my first time in the masquerade and we won the judge's award for most charismatic group 8DD!!

31 May 2010 - 10:3532948
Aww I had loads of fun this weekend, mostly for the socialising aspect of it all got to see lots of lovely people again and stuff so I had fun! The overcrowding is always a common complaint and we've learnt not to hang around much in the expo hall on Saturday for just that fact.

Alas we didn't get much shopping done as when we returned on the sunday to go shopping we were blocked from entry at 4:31 apparently being told that the doors close at 4:30 and there were signs up (unfortunately we couldn't be pointed out to where exactly these signs were so I think quite a few people were annoyed - If this is the case can we have clearer signage next year please Expo?)

But on the whole lots of fun and just nice to play and hang out. Had a great time and everyone I met was abolutely lovely! Love all you guys! Can't wait til October! ^^

I went on Sunday. <3

It was kinda empty this year. Hollow much?
Everyone seemed to be outside while I was shopping/hiding behind my mum whenever someone tried to talk to me.

Saw lots of awesome cosplayers too.

...I only bought one thing!

We went both days, Saturday was just heaving. I don't know if that was because of the wristbands or because of all the big events.
It did seem that people mostly stayed outside in the halls so it wasn't too busy once people got through the doors. The only thing I didn't enjoy was walking up and down the lines in the hall to get in!
Sunday was much calmer and wee could actually walk around a bit better without feeling like sardines.

Masq was great on both days, some many amazing costumes entered! I know some people were surprised at the late running on Saturday was it wasn't so bad. Big thankyou to the helpers backstage on both days! They were absolutely fantastic and when the bubbles and balloons ran out they started dancing for us! XD
Also a big thankyou to the people who were near me in the line! You guys really helped calm my nerves and were so lovely! <3

Tab straddling me to glue my eyes on totally calmed your nerves!

I agree, the people that were helping out the masq. queue were lovely, they kept running up and down to make sure nobody was dying of thirst in the big suits and giving people sugar highs. Giving us waiting time estimates was also great.

Also thanks to the games section guys (may or may not be DDR:UK I dunno) who gave us chairs to let the guys in more cumbersome costumes sit down. Apparently a near empty card game area NEEDS all their chairs.

Over all I had a good time, crowding was a problem with me being so small sometimes it was near suffocating but that's expo. My one worry was people in white costumes bumping into me in my Little Sister. I kept my arms as close to my chest as possible and ended up yelling "Don't TOUCH me! I'm FILTHY" a few times. Last thing you want is a dirty bloody hand print on a white dress.

i enjoyed it|! though disapointed that no one showed up for my photography bookings.

I went both days and can't really say much about the actual Expo itself, I only spent around 2hrs inside, and that was mainly backstage in the masquerade LOL!

Saturday I spent my time outside because I couldn't afford to go in (so poor D: ) but I had a blast! I was never lonely for one moment because I was always with one group or another chilling out. That or I would be doing shoots with people so that was fun!
All in all I had a brilliant time on Saturday! And now I don't mind at all if people want photos with me, but when some of the other event goers asked for a photo with me and stank of alcohol so could have been quite drunk, it kinda freaked me out ;w; Luckily I was with a big-ish group at the time so it calmed me down a bit!
Drunks scare me if I don't know them x'D

Sunday was very hectic... I had a ticket this time but didn't actually go in till 12.30... And that was just to say I was present for the masquerade! There was no queue at the time, I had a fast track ticket though so that was probably why. I spent most of my day hanging out with various people again and while I really wanted to go out to do a bit of shopping, I just didn't get the chance to! At least I saved money but I would have liked to spend a little time looking at manga xD; Oooh well! I was having too much fun to go shop x'D

Overall I had a really good time with people. I don't think I've experienced enough of Expo to say anything about the organization etc so I'm neutral on it for now. (Although when a few friends told me they had to queue for 3hrs just to get a ticket I thought that was ridiculous... I also found it annoying how the masquerade went overtime for so long... We were all moaning about being hungry and wanting dinner (especially me!) and my friend was in the masquerade so we had to wait! D: Biiit optimistic on the stage timings I think).

This. K4tt and I pretty much had at least one spotter alongside us whereever we went so that we can cope haha.

i really enjoyed it ^^ tho i did only wear my scruffy old cosplays it was great gettin photos.

i think expo is usually like that tho it great meeting new people outside and when they recognise your character and socialising and stuff. but the event its self is nothin specil just a big place to buy things and see new things comin out, its not like a con. the lines to get in and stuff were atrocious like always.

i just loved seeing people again tho ^^ and the intresting cosplays was great fun

31 May 2010 - 17:4532979
Wasn't all that impressed by the event itself but the cosplays were amazing, staff were friendly and the people were brilliant.

I had a genuinely great time but...little of it took place WITHIN expo...

i didnt realy enjoy expo this year, but then i didnt help that i was in serious pain even before i got into the expo hall.
i have arthritus in both of my legs and that can get preety painfull so i took loads of pain killers before i left the hotel and thaught i would be fine, then i had to stand for ages to get into the hall to get the wristbands, (was in a lil pain but not to bad) then the up and down walking began and i have never been in so much pain before, i asked if i could just go to the end of the line..... wait till my time in the line came to the front (as my friend was there and we were going in together) and then just rejoin the que, but i was told no on both days, that it wasnt possable and that if i was dissabled i should be in a wealchair if i cant walk much, i explained i sometimes use a stick but didnt want to bring it into the expo hall as it gets so crowded i was afraid i would hit someone/step on toes or cosplays or have it kicked out from under me (i have had that happen before).
i was told that if i was in a weelchair that it would be possable but as i wasnt then i couldnt..... then i saw some poor ppl having to push weelchairs alond the up and down course.....
also all the stalls had the same stuff at diffrent prices and it all cost a FORTUNE....... £20 for a SMALL plush......
also i feel expo need to get a bigger hall to help with overcrowding...... alot of the hall was taken up by the yu-gi-oh bit that wasnt even half full most of the time, and the wrestleing ring which i didnt see anything at all goin on in it.... (i was in and out of expo alot of the weekend so i may have mossed it all)

sorry for long post that is long.........

At first, I was moody from not getting any sleep which practically led me to stay awake for 34 hours straight... ¬¬ and also had an early morning scare when accidentally getting mascara over my cosplay which was a yellow dress but managed to fix the solution by using make up remover - phew! ^^;;;;

As for the expo though, I had a good time - normally I'd go on a Saturday but this time I went on the Sunday with more of my friends - though it was quieter, I still liked the thrill of being there witnessing what effort people do in cosplaying and really enjoyed taking photographs.
I admit that the actually inside of the expo isn't all that great but it's the atmosphere from the convention that sells it to me ^^

Can't wait for next Oct where hopefully I get to meet more awesome people. ^_~
