leather, ribbon and super glue.
Ok, can I use super glue to stick some ribbon to fake leater?

I get paid on friday but I cant wait any longer to sort out my Alicia cosplay. Its not long till expo and well I havent dont much so I need to get her done in time.

Would it work?

I can see many problems arising from this combination.

1. Superglue may eat into imitation leather.
2. Ribbon is porous so the superglue may show through as a wet splodge.
3. Superglue tends to dry/cure quite hard so you might not get the flexibility you are looking for.

Recommend that you try a little on a small sample of ribbon and fake leather to see the effects for yourself.

I think that most glues will show through ribbon, including hot glue. You could try doublesided sticky tape or carpet tape as a temporary measure and sew it on when you have time after the con?

I was thinking that it would show, I tried bonding it, but with the leather it doesnt work all that well. Grr!!! I hate not having money, I need some proper glue, I dont have needles that go through fake leater.

But I will try the teaster in a minute.

Seconding double-sided tape. As a quick fix in time for Expo it would probably work quite well.

Then you could always stitch it afterwards when you've got the time and money for the right needle! ^_^

You SHOULD be able to get a normal needle to go through leather, if it's not layered. Use some pliers, and a hard surface to push it through. It's slow work, but looks better and holds better than glues. Or jut machine sew it. Most half-decent sewing machines will go through leather with little effort. Take it slow to prevent broken needles though.

fabric glue. Thats what I did with my paine costume worked brilliantly and I have nothing fall off all day!

Superglue and ribbon won't work, I tried it on my Sora costume last October. Or rather - it WILL hold it in place, very well. But the glue shows through straight away and makes it look all weird and mangled. My ribbon was glued to the soles of my shoes which was ok, but if your glued ribbon will be on view, definite no-no.

And it was on leather gunstar? If so then I saw you as her and it was amazing. I might give that ago.

Denim needles go through fake leather beautifully, if you're going to machine sew it at any point.

Ailsa is right, denim needles are the best for sewing!

Seconding double-sided tape. But if you want glue, I highly recommend Bostik leather adhesive. They used to sell it at Wilkinsons for about £1.50, though the last few times I went they've totally ran out (and I tried quite a few stores!)

I use it to stick ribbons, to stick fake leather and generally fabrics that don't normally glue well. It works wonders and it's so much easier to control than super glue!
