Well we all know about the volcano in Iceland that's closed every ariport in the country. I still need to order a wig for an Expo costume and not sure whether to order it or not. Most of the suppliers we use are in the US or Hong Kong and there will probably be a problem with air mail once the planes are flying again.

So, should I order? Or would it be better to find someone in this country to get it from?

I never thought of that either and ive just orderd a wig from hong kong.. i dont think there would be too much of a delay though would there?

you might be lucky and get shipments from hong kong in time =x you'll be lucky though.

i had an undersuit on order from HK before the ash cloud hit us, and it took just over 4 weeks... factor the cloud delays and you could be looking at 6-8 weeks.

Do you think if i was to order two wigs now that they'd come in time? I was going to do it today and that's just got me worried. If not, what are some good UK wig sellers?

normally the wigs i order usually take about 8 days to arrive so addd some extra onto that i guess

Some airports in Ireland have started up again, so hopefully, in a few days, airports in England will be up and running.
My gran's been delayed from coming back to England, she's in Hong Kong at the moment, but I heard it won't be for too long

Yeah, my mum's stuck in Amsterdam and that's until Tuesday/Wednesday. I'm going by what you've said about your Gran but i think this'll be fixed in a week or two, and then add the eight days and it's plenty of time to get the wig for expo. Knowing the post though, there'll be a postal strike or something

With it being a natural disaster, no one really knows when things will end.
It's not something you can guarantee.

From what I've heard some airlines are waiting until monday, then reviewing the situation.

The thing is, it could errupt again at any time. So even if it clears up now, it could start up again at random, and the delays would happen all over again.

Unfortunately, since it is a natural disaster, nothing is for certain (my granny is spitting feathers as "acts of God" are not covered in her travel insurance).

When the wind changes direction, then it'll sort it out.

Also, the reason for the huge ash cloud is that the volcano is errupting underneath a sheet of ice (look for pictures, it's epic) so even if the volcano kept erupting, the ice will melt eventually and the ash will stop.

From what I've heard there's no flights coming in to the uk at all at the moment, but hopefully things will have cleared up by the time wigs etc are shipped XD

The biggest problem here is that no one really knows about the air mail service. All the news coverage is given to passenger flights. Although, it turns out everything going to (and probably from) any out side of Europe is being held. Also, most couriers are probably grounded as well.

I've risked it, two wigs ordered. Not as bad as the time when i ordered a wig four days before last expo though, hopefully this'll all be sorted out and the wind will change direction.

I read on the BBC website yesterday that air-mail was being transfered onto lorries and ships so that there would still be a flow of deliveries across the country/world.
But of course do expect most deliveries to be delayed~

I looked on the Royal Mail's site and it said they were only doing that for stuff coming from Europe.

everything is pretty much grounded till wednesday.

I read last night that they are planning to bring navy ships in to get people home and also all the cargo and stuff.

I feel sorry for people who went away and cant get back, all the kids and people that have to work and such.

But because its natural no-one knows for sure what will happen.

I've been mailing a bunch of stuff at the post office in the last few days and every time the staff at the PO just warned me of postal delays because flights just aren't taking off. Even post within the UK are delayed because local post gets flown around too.

If I were you I might actually wait until the planes are flying again. Royal Mail has a tendency to lose stuff if there's a huge backlog. =/

Or, maybe you can get a wig from someone in the UK? Post a picture and maybe someone here can help you. You never know.

the backlog is 99% of the problem. mail could start moving tomorrow, but things will still be delayed for months. luckily, we're not in a peak mailing period, so things might get here in time IF planes start flying withing the next week or so.

i wouldn't count on it though.

I sent messages to the two wig sellers i've ordered from asking about the postal delays from Hong Kong and they say that the mail will only be delayed around 5 days. Not sure about other places though.

OK. I think it's now time to panic.

Working on it! XD Really. But my shop won't be ready until at least mid-May, so I'll miss the Expo rush.

Seems like the flights are starting again though. Hope mail will be back to normal soon.
