Cosplay Newbie, Please Play Nice =)
Ok, so I've never cosplayed before but my brother went to Kitacon 2010 and I got very jealous about how much fun he was having

So, I've decided to follow in his footsteps and join up on here in the hopes of getting some inspiration for my first cosplay - if anybody has any ideas it would be muchos appreciated

Kinda planning on making it to the London Expo at the end of May (last minute or what?) so I need to get my act together!

Looking forward to chatting with you guys

Hi Sis! ^_^

Love that were having this conversation over here despite actually being in the same house for once

Sorry again for leaving buying your present till Sunday when the dealers had practically nothing cute left

...I'll actually come over to your room in a bit and help you pick a costume

Haha! Hey there Big Brother =P

It's no problem about the present, I love the little blobby face

But yes, I need all the help I can get really! So many things I'd like to do but wouldn't have the time/skill/look to do them

It really depends on what things you like. I'd recommend cosplaying your favourite characters, as I've found when I've only been a character to complete my friends' group that I don't enjoy it as much.

Also, if your favourite character is wearing something that's too low cut or short for your liking (presuming they're female) then don't feel ashamed of altering it. It's about what you're comfortable with really.

Heya ^^
I agree. I would too recommend you choosing a character you really like and what you'd most feel comfortable with. Also - it depends on whether you're planning to make the outfit or get it commissioned. By making it yourself, it needs to be a character that can be manageable at your own skill level. It's better to make an outfit that is simple and done well rather than an elaborate outfit which is done terrible.

Awww thanks guys, you're a nice bunch =D

So does it not matter too much if I alter a costume slightly from the original so as to save myself (and the rest of the world) from having to display my half naked body? 'Cus I thought people would be picking at all the details so if I deviated I'd be shunned =P

I would most likely be pulling the outfit together out of stuff I can buy in shops as my sewing skills aren't amazing!

I'm just trying to think of female characters I really like and that have an obvious "outfit" that I could create and it seems a lot harder than I thought!

Hehe it's harder than it sounds but you'll make a decision eventually ^_~ - it doesn't matter if you alter the cosplay slightly as long as people recognize your character - I'm not sure bout other people, but when I go round the expo seeing the ones in cosplay, I don't nitpick at faults such as 'their hair colour is wrong' or 'they're not wearing the correct shoes' - as long as people get the idea who it is, it's fine ^^

I think only the super hard core scary people will have an issue. I don't think anyone else will care if the length is wrong. How many Sailor Moons go about with knee length skirts?

Ah well that's good, you guys have made me feel a lot better about it =) so Thanks

I'm thinking I may try and pull together the outfit for Tifa Lockheart from Final Fantasy: Advent Children in time for London Expo *fingers crossed*. She's a favourite character of mine and I reckon I could make a good go at her costume.

So hopefully I'll be making some updates about that one once I figure this place out a bit more =P
