So many of us on here have alias' that we go by in the cosplay world.

i was wandering how people decided on using them or how they came up with them.
a good few people i understand just played with their actual names, but what about ones like me who's names have nothing to do with their real names?

for me it all started with my username on Gaiaonline. it was Trihexiflexagonal. bit of a mouthful and people were always asking if they could shorten it to Trihex. didn't like that so Hexi was born. and i've gone by it in the internet world ever since. :3

I'm just curious how everyone came by their cosplay/internet alias'

mine just started with my love of Japan =D
and since Harajuku is happens to be the biggest cosplaying district and sub-culture ever with visual kei, gothic lolita and cosplaying every sunday for socalizing i thought it would suit my alias perfectly

I would love to go there someday........The only place where cosplaying is seen as normal every sunday

thus I made up my name harajuku-guy ^^

mine came from my other main hobby, and an insult born of it in college. anyone who knows me will know ive been keeping/breeding fish for the last 12 years, and have spent the last 6 years (until recently) working as an aquarium specialist in a pet shop. in College, when people found out i liked fish, they all started to call me Fishboy. when i was trying to think of a name for myself in the virtual world, i kinda corrupted it into something cute, and it stuck :/

Awww, mine is one of the more boring stories unfortunately. When I first got my job (2 years ago now, eek!) one of the other staff was messing around saying corruptions of my name (not in a horrible way, though!). Since my real name is Faye, she eventually said 'Faye-bls', and from then I just adopted it as my alias online.

Plus, I felt I needed a change from my online name at the time: 'Lady Fuz Lin', so it was a nice simple name to start afresh with.

Lmao mine isnt anything interesting or cute like those. It sprung out of a combined love for Remus Lupin (Moony...Moon...O_~) And Lily kinda came from...Lily Potter, me adoring the name Lily anyway, and it's my favourite flower!

At least my name is created from love even if it doesnt have a very interesting story to go with it!

I'm sometimes XMoonLilyX but this is only ever if MoonLily is taken (quite often x.x) and I reason with myself that it works because I'm obsessed with X-men 2 or...X2...yeah... >_>

I was in Greece with my parents and I went hunting for large packets of 'Cheetos'.
I had beenc raving them since the year prior and when I found them I was like *3*
My alias spawned from there, really. I've been known as Cheetos ever since xD
I add 'FTW' onto he end of some of my account names because usually, just 'Cheetos' is taken.
Noobish name is Noobish xD

By a small minority, I'm also known as Ceciel. This spawned when I was decided upon a new name for myself, har har.

Mine also sort of comes from my Gaia username

Few years back, me and some friends came up with fruit related nicknames for each other (why, I'm not sure) and I had a slight fetish for stubble (and I still do)
Then I fancied changing my Gaia user name to Stubbled Grapes

I'm usually know as katie_kibble across the rest of teh Internets, but I've had that for years and years so I decided I wanted to be known as something else in the cosplaying 'verse =]

The name katie_kibble has a whole other story attached to it =p

My originall online alisa was SilverTimberWolf, and that was a long time ago we're talking. Silver's a favourite colour of mine, and timber wolves are my favourite animal.

Eventually it was shortened down to SilverWolverina, same colour, favourite X-Men character, feminised. And then finally because its such a mouthful, people just started calling me Silver for short. I liked it, and it stuck.

On some websites I am Renos-fangirl247 however that name is really old. Whilst I am still a fan of Reno (from FF7) I don't want people to see me as that anymore. Plus, most websites don't allow ' and / in a name so it is VERY incorrect >=

So MadameLapin... well I used to (and still do) have massive front teeth that stuck out awkwardly, so I sort of played on a cruel nickname given to me at school (rabbit) into something a little more positive. I like it, people can abbreviate it easily and it suits me ^^

I was young... I thought I was cool by mixing up Japanese words with English words back then... I loved the word "Neko" which means cat in Japanese and I just chucked the word "Crystal" in front and thought it had a nice ring to it. It kinda stuck because I still think it has a nice ring to it soooo yeah...

Sometimes I'm known as "destinys-spirits", this came from my Shaman King obsession because as a kid I was heavily into the fandom. I still am, sorta. So that stuck as well.

Sometimes I'm called "NekoNekoStar" if I really cannot use any of the above. Mainly because "Neko" is a fun word to say, and I like stars... Plus stars are associated with my favourite Shaman King character, Hao. I am so laaaaame I know XD I need a cooler story XD;

Mine came for a love of the only sane character in Death Note He made it fun to read XD and I really like Washington reds *apples* so the two went together in a pleasant name that rolled off the tongue I also go by EmeralDAWN which comes from an awesome Green Lantern comic series but I only really use that on non Anime sites

Mine came from my username on Neopets, which I used to play loads as a child xD [Westlife_luva2004]
One of my friends on there used to call me Westie all the time, and so it kind of stuck =)

mine is a name i've used for a long time, first instance online was on diablo2 when it was new!

it's a name i've used in a ton of games/places. basicly, if you find a xaerael online, it's either me, or someone pretending to be me (which has happened).

the "rael" part of name derived from the diablo character azrael. the xae bit was made up.

My alias also dates from way back. When I first started to go online I had this obsession with The Lion King, so I tried to learn a few words in Swahili.
And I like to think I'm a nice person, so as an online alias I ended up with 'Mtani', the Swahili word for 'friend' XD

Mine was the name of an OC I used to RP with on Gaia years ago.
Seph as you might have guessed, I got from Sephiroth and Noir was just a last name I picked up from another person I RPed with and have used ever since. Stupidly simple but it's stuck and I've used it ever since.

my ex ex boyfriend for my first present he gave me was jelly cubes which were lime flavoured and coloured.

Plus my favourite colour is limegreen and jelly is such a odd but delicious dessert on any occassion and hey presto

Haha, my one is really boring compared to everyone elses. When we were learning Japanese at uni our names had to be converted into japanese letters so as we could write them in Katakana. So it's basically my surname and Kata was already registered so Mr Carter

Everyone goes through phases of liking certain things and when I got my alias, I was going through a bit of an obsession with the musical, CATS. I wanted a new username on deviantART so I was looking which usernames of the names of cats were free on there... then I ended up with Mungojerrie. Since then I've just used it everywhere I can XD

Mine fits with several different things. I wanted a new username cos my old one was a little lame and (very) 12-year-old-ish. And well, I love monkeys, my favourite character in any anime EVER is referred to as 'monkey' (he's also the Monkey King!), and my personal nickname for a long while has been monkey. So yeah, it was pretty simple really.

If I can't get away with 'monkey' considering its so generic, I try 'The Monkey'. If all else fails, I go with 'GoldenMochi' (because I love eating mochi and the best mochi must be one made of Gold!)

In high school I realllyyy wanted to sign up to youtube because of all the great harry potter videos (wavs x'DD) and me being the clueless girl i thought youtube came with a section that you can make movies on X'DD anyway I was sat in form/morning register thinking what username I could have, and I saw a machine by the company nilfisk (we were in a tech room) and I went through the alphabet changing the f so i didnt break any copyright laws or something, and i landed on V, nilvisk 8D and then about a year and a half later i was forced to sign up to that art site (i think it was tegaki or iscribble) and the person who made me had recently called me nillyvagilly (no idea where it came from) so i signed up as that somewhere, and then shortened it to nilly (i was fond of this because it was a mix of my real name [gill] and nilvisk) and voila <3 then I got into cosplay and thought, this has got to be my cosplay name thing! lol

Mine is kinda boringly simple. I love DBZ,I have an obcession with Saiyans and Sarah is my name XD

I also go by Tartan-Faerie on somethings, that was a while ago though when I went through a faerie phase, and tartan...i don't know why, i just love tartan and I always wear it despite not being at all Scottish. I like to blame Vivienne Westwood. It's all her fault.
