Guinness World Records Largest Gathering Of Games Characters Attempt
i have just stumbled across this thread on cosplay.com taking about Guinness World Record’s Gamer’s Edition will be attempting the ‘Largest gathering of Games characters’ on March 18, 10.30 for 11am at the Millenium Bridge, London and are looking for all cosplayers and gamers to come down and make Guinness World Record history!

im just going to copy and past what Trippy has writ on cosplay.com as its easy than rewriting it ^_^ and im lazy XD

Hi there,

I run the fansite http://www.nightsintodreams.com/ and lately we've been dealing a lot with SEGA, the company who made the game in the first place. As things turn out because of my cosplay which was featured on the company website a person at Guinness World Records contacted them about an event happening very soon in March. It's a great chance to have your hard work both in the 2009 book itself AND in the newspapers! (The Sun will be there). Plus you get a gift for taking part!

I shall copy paste the official press release that SEGA gave me:

"Guinness World Record’s Gamer’s Edition will be attempting the ‘Largest gathering of Games characters’ on March 18, 10.30 for 11am at the Millenium Bridge, London and are looking for all cosplayers and gamers to come down and make Guinness World Record history!

Think you could be King of All Cosmos (Katamari Damacy), Master Chief (Halo) Dante (Devil May Cry) or Gabe Logan (Syphon Filter) then we want to see you there! Anime or Manga to World of Warcraft whatever you are into get dressed up and help break a record.

To register please e-mail:

All characters will appear in the Guinness World Record Gamers Edition 2009 plus on the website as well as receiving a gift for their efforts!

The record attempt celebrates the inaugral Guinness World Record Gamer’s Edition that is on sale now and is bursting with new records, high score statistics and fascinating facts.

In addition Guinness World Records are also searching for the next new gaming record breaker to join the hallowed ranks of the book. Applicants are being encouraged to upload their scores on the Gamer’s Edition website, http://gamers.guinnessworldrecords.com/ to enter the challenge.

About Guinness World Records
Guinness World Records is the universally recognized authority on record-breaking achievement. First published in 1955, the annual Guinness World Records book is published in more than 100 countries and 20 languages and is one of the highest-selling books under copyright of all time with more than 3 million copies sold annually across the globe. Guinness World Records celebrated its 50th anniversary edition in 2004, a year after the sale of its 100 millionth copy. The Guinness World Records website (www.guinnessworldrecords.com) receives more than 11 million visitors a year."

I myself am being flown down by SEGA to cosplay as NiGHTS along with my fiance who will be also in costume. I'll be wearing the costume that I've had in my cosplay.com gallery for a few years now, it'll be nice for it to see the light of day again XD

So come on guys! I'm sure there are tons of you who love both computer games and cosplay! Lets set the record for gaming cosplay : D

Please let all of your friends know and any cosplayers who you think would be interested. I'll be giving this press release to the main website for news, but i wanted to give all you UK guys a heads up first.

I hope to see you all there. Be sure to register!

PS- This event is for ALL characters from any game series on any system, as long as you're from a computergame, like FF for instance, you're good to go ^_^

it's ok to cosplay an anime character as long as they've featured in a computer game at some point

Wow this is awesome! And they're attempting it in London too!!! I am so going to join this attempt!

I'd so go up there and join in... if I wasn't working. =_=

Darn for having no more holiday!

This I have to do! Hopefully I can convince my parents and book the day off to join in!

As I said on Cosplay.com - If they're attempting to break a world record for a gathering of cosplayers, the least they could do is have it on a weekend. A huge portion of cosplayers are gonna be in school at 11am on a Tuesday :/

Wow sounds awesome, I hope someone gets some good pictures and videos. If I had a video game cosplay ready or lived in London or wasn't in college I would have come lol.

I have one word for this.

Woo! Early easter holiday! I'm definately heading up for this, sounds like a real laugh! Though now I have to go and find a game cosplay to wear! o_o

I'm going to slash your pillow and tear out all the stuffing with a motorbike made of jelly.

I would so be up for this if I wasn't busy that day. My Sephy would fit in so prefectly. That is if I ever get him complete.

Having it on a Tuesday at 11am is *pretty* silly.

Anyway, I am going to see if I can get it off and represent the old Cosplay Island staff if I can. Maybe I can rope Perrin into taking some photos or footage down there.

Now the problem lies in "What costume do I take along?"

Well I will be in London on Easter Hols, so I may make an appearance but tbh this sounds like itl be a flop if its on a Tuesday!

My God. Its full of stars

Hey, I'll be going along to this. Yeah, it is pretty stupid to have it on a Tuesday (and at the last minute too) but if people are in the area and free they may as well go along and I'm sure it'll be fun.

I did email the organiser to say it probably won't be a real world record, but they said it's just a first attempt to try and encourage a bigger event in the future. Here's part of the email they sent:

"This record attempt is a starter, it's a great fun and visual record which we're using to really kick off our new Gamer's Edition and I'm hugely hopeful that the record will get great pickup internationally and that we'll get lots of people coming back to say that they are organising something bigger!"

There was also a group email to say there'll be journalists and a film crew there. There aren't so many opportunities to show cosplay in the mainstream, so I hope people will turn up and support it. Also, it's great that the UK's been chosen for the first record, since we're not really known on the world scene.

yeh its a crap day to have this event...

especially as i've now realised I'll be in leicester!! ARGH! >.< why did i have to choose that week to go visit my family? pssh I'm always in London in the hols usually.

*sigh* but have fun all of you guys that are attending!

ORIHIME!: D You're coming? Awesome! I met you at Auchinawa when you done that amazing Amy cosplay
Who will you be cosplaying as so i can look out for you?

Also came in here to give a quick update on who's attending in terms of media, along with the Sun (and some local papers) there will also be The Paul O'Grady Show, BBC Childrens Newsround and Gamers.tv (Bravo)... This is a GREAT chance to show cosplay to the UK public, especialy kids! Encourage creativityyyyyyy *wigglyfingers*

I'm about to head out the door for my flight down south, but i just wanted to encourage anyone with a Game-before-cartoonseries gaming costume to come along and take part.

It will be funnn~

Just want to say to those who went to this today, I had a great time ^^ It was so much fun (if pretty darn cold) to see everyone out in cosplay in London. It would've been nice if there were more people, it should certainly be on a weekend next year so we can swarm all of London with cosplay goodness! ^^

I think one of the most entertaining things was that Mini-Mario-Army of schoolchildren. Weren't they so cute and adorable? Start'em when they're young haha! ^^

Thanks for being so lovely everyone, I think I got photos of most people, and it was great to finally be able to see a bunch of CosplayIsland people in the flesh! Can't wait to see you all again! XD

Ta-ta for now

I'm going to slash your pillow and tear out all the stuffing with a motorbike made of jelly.

It was great fun! I went as Fox McCloud and my ex as Yoshi and those Mario kids all bundled him lol!We missed the first lot of pictures but got in there in the end ^^

*grumbles* stoopid taxi driver said it was just up the road and that was 3 miles *grumbles*

Well done to y'all!

It's just a shame they didn't organise it better...like to be on a weekend or waited and done it at a convention or something and grabbed people on the day...

80 people and 34 were schoolkids from what I read (I assume those are the mini-marios? LOL)

It's a shame, but it was an awesome looking event and I wish I could have gone...although I don't actually have a game costume yet ^_^' LOL
