Hi there!

I just wanted to post this out to see if anyone new to cosplay will be at Midlands Expo next month?

If so, make yourself known people.I am so nervous and think that talking to other people in the same boat as me may help me along abit.

Im really excited about the cosplay but doing it out in front of people I don't know, scares me a tad :/ I feel better knowing that a couple of friends are coming with me but would like to use this as a possible medium to find out others attended the Expo for the first time?

Defo wouldn't worry about as around 80% of people will be cosplaying at Midlands, my first con only around 15% of people were cosplaying so loadss of people looked at you abit gone out!

You defo don't need to feel nervous because cosplaying is like one big happy family

As long as you feel comfortable in your costume then you should feel proud and excited about wearing it in front of others and showing it off!

Not new to cosplay but this is going to be our first Midlands in over 3 years (my husbands complete first time). :3

Midlands is actually great for getting to know people because it's just so much more relaxed than the London expos (or it was last time I went).
Cosplaying is a great way to help break the ice too as you've instantly got something to talk about whether you recognise their character or not.

Definitely don't be afraid of approaching people, if you like their costume/want a photo/want to ask them how something was made etc. Most of us are a friendly bunch and love meeting new people.

I agree with Seph. Midlands is the best Con (actually... I have you to go to a ****Con yet xD) for meeting people. It very relaxed and friendly, so people naturally get along. Plus, as people have said, most people who go come in cosplay! So there'll be no weird stares, and you'll usually get at least one compliment.

Word of advice, try and go around WITH someone, just to be on the safe side. We're a very supportive community, but there are some VERY weird people at Cons. I believe there's a thread about it.

Come to the cosplay desk at Midlands, we'll have sweeties and repair kits if you need them. We're always happy to see new cosplaying faces and give help and advice if wanted. You'll have a great time.

Although I'm a con regular I've yet to go to the midlands expo. So it will be my first time to it. From what I've heard from my friends its a great con to get to know people and have fun. Certainally a great way to get familar with the Expo cons before tackling a London one.

I mean i've been to the LondonFCC and Thought Bubble in Leeds, but i'm quite new to the expos.

Very tempted to go just because of how close it is to me...This would be my first one too though.

I wanna try to convince some people I know to come along but I only have a few *Almost done* costumes and unless my friends could pull a quick closet cosplay they wouldn't have anything to wear either.

well im attending midlands with bambi along with our respective partners. Ive cosplayed about 4-5 years and im seasoned to making a fool of myself. this year however sees *breathes* spandex! this will be my first superman cosplay and im extemely nervous O_o but im really looking forward to it ^^

I'm sure it'll look great though, it's nice you guys have got people you can automatically bring along.
The thing is with my friends I usually end up being the one trying something new out and being silly before they wanna do it too

Midlands Expo 2008 was my first expo but I really do love meeting new people at expos I'm gonna be wisdom form sora so please do come say hi!!! In 2008 I felt the exact same then walked through the door and got glomped by another cosplayer so that's what tends to happen but everyone is really friendly :3

Ahhh it's a shame, i was planning on going to midlands but i didn't have the money at the time so im going to kitacon instead =[.

I don't think I will be at May expo due to funds for a crash pad Will have to see though! Would love to go!

Everyone is really friendly and there will defiantely be alot of cosplayers, dont be afraid and just enjoy it really..sure you will come away with lots of new friends
