Hey guys!

Since my local fabric shops are completely failing me this year (already!) I've had to resort to buying my fabric online, I found this really good shop, they have loads of choice, thought I'd share!

Calico Laine

Also, in answer to the popular question of "What are the Princess dresses going to be made out of?", I plan on starting mine in the next couple of months (really planning early this year for a change).
I have decided upon either Alexandra Duchess Satin or Lipstick Taffeta ^^
It will all depend on what weight the taffeta is, what my budget it like, and what shade will suit my wig better ^^

Also, they have both types of fabric in a multitude of colours, so it's likely that everyone could find what they needed on there for their Princess dress (if they wanted it, of course!)
Anyways, here are all the colours of the Duchess Satin and the Taffeta
I hope people find it useful!

xxx

Out of those two for the princess dresses i'm definetly leaning towards the duchess satin...typical expensive taste. X.X

That's a great site Chibi!

For Mercury I'm thinking Royal Blue for the main part of the dress but not sure between the Mill Blue or Powder for chest area *ponders*

I know it's best to look for fabric in person to get the right colour and feel but my area is also pants for fabric stores. The ivory would prob work for my Rinoa dress also... although I think I would prefer a cream satin with the ivory chiffon as the top layer.

Ooo and this blue chiffon for the floaty drapes down the sides of the dress.

Thanks for that Chibi!

Not much suitable yellow on that site - unless someone can prove me wrong?

Also, am in a bit of a wig tizz: the ref pic has it as a similar shade of yellow to the dress: I'm thinking perhaps too much yellow to look at realistically? What should I do?

You could do Venus' dress with the Daffodil Duchess Satin with the floaty bits in either Butterscotch Chiffon or Gold Twinkle Organdi (the latter looks nicer imo)

As for the wig, a more natural blonde will probably end up looking nicer ^^ though that's just my opinion, it's entirely up to you!
This one is rather nice for Venus, it's not too long that it gets in the way or tangles easily and it's a nice shade of blonde without being too light/dark ^^
That shop has a good selection though, as does the eBay shop "Cog_Marc" and "Professional-Only"

Id have to agree. Although its pricey Duchess Satin worked well. thats what was used for my Princess Neptune at the ball -see my CI if interested- and have to say it works pretty well~

Mind i'll be making my own in the same material. thanks Chibi 8D

I agree on the natural blonde thing and then the wig is useful for a lot of other costumes too. Multi-purpose! I've ordered from both those stores and Professional-Only wigs are really good, I have about 3 (including my ChibiChibi base) and covet several others. However, I was really disappointed by Cog_Marc and wouldn't order another wig from them. The wig in the picture is not what you'll recieve, the shade of mine was totally different (it did not look neon in the pictures), the legth was slightly different and it was really badly cut. It is rescuable, but not for the costume it was intended for. sinXsational also ordered a wig from them and had to do some serious restyling, it was full of sticky gel which she had to wash out and redo, so it's not as if its just me who's had a problem with them.

Actually hun the Neptune dress wasn't Duchess satin. Duches Satin is what was used for you Lion Ranka and is a much thicker satin and not something I'd recomend for a floaty dress.

The economy satin floats well but can be difficult to find in non-garish orange/yellows when conciderring Venus. I used it for my Will of the Abyss dress and it drapes nicely.

Crepe-back satin is what I used for the Neptune dress and flows gorgeously though like all thin satins it can be slippery and difficult to work with.

Here's a good supplier, don't be fooled by the name I've orderred from them before and it's good stuff. Better price than the duchess too.

This has nothing to do with the groups at this year's con but I thought it might be good to ask here.

I am a complete cosplay noob. I have made only one costume and am working on my second. Anime Princess Serenity with those shoulder poofy sleeves of doom. Knowing that I am a novice and others can only improve on what I've done would you like my tutorial on how to make the sleeves? I was able to visualize them and then putting them together on my first try wasn't too horrible.

If you think I should post my tutorial let me know and I'll finish the pictures and write up. I would love to see how you all improve on them!

Ah, I've ordered my Rainbow Dash and Italy from Cog_Marc, as well as a few others. Loads of my friends order from them (including my good friend Seph from SephWigs!) and have never had any problems with them :/
Luck of the draw I guess!

depending on if the SM Amecon shoot will clash with the Shaman King Amecon shoot - I'd love to be put down for Sailor Pluto if you need one ( though I'm making the ' eternal ' vs ) ? I'm halfway done with mine for Otakon 2010 - so it'll easily be complete by then?

Yeah... doesn't look like I'm getting ChibiChibi done for Minami after all... atm doesn't look like I'm getting any costumes done at all. Overwhelming uni workload until after Easter. lol.

One day!

I might throw together this version of Neptune though if I don't have time for anything else as it's just buying a t-shirt, cutting it, cutting up some old trousers and making a hat & collar and that'd take maybe an hour.

How's everybody doing with their costumes? I'm working hard on my Venus, so bar a natural disaster I should make it to MayExpo! ^^ I'm also wanting to make it Amecon, but I'm only on the waiting list (because I was a slowpoke ^^ but if I manage then I might bust out Demando again! So yeah, how's everybody doing?

I'm going to make a real effort to get Mercury ready for Minami (less than a week to go...eeeeeek!)

Yesterday I bought this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230412787052&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

It's a bubble machine ^_^ Now I can pose for Shabon Spray and have millions of bubbles around me! Sadly won't be taking it to Expo, but then I will (fingers crossed) have the Mini Computer that my sister is making and the Visor for Expo! Now should really get cracking!

^_^ Bubble machine,I love it. ..Epic pictures to come.
(sorry guys no SMoon cospay for me this year :/ - just can't fit everything in. But I'm lovin seeing how your costumes are all coming on, and looking forward to seeing you wearing them at an Expo.)

Couldn't get Mercury done for Minami and need to pick up more lycra to remake the bodice (again!) but I'm going to get it done for Expo since I've not got much else on besides coursework.

Just wondering about Expo and the Masquerade - what the plan was etc?

25 Apr 2010 - 13:5130522
I may be cosplaying as Sailor Mars for Katsukon, Otakon, and/or Anime Usa.

03 May 2010 - 19:3831147
I'm going MCM Expo in October, will be my first cosplay but I'm hoping to be going as Tuxedo Kamen.

Main question is whether I have the guts to try and make it myself or not...

Well anyways, hopefully some of the Senshi will be there for me to make a dramatic entrance and save them
