The Advent Children film makes it look like her jacket is made from denim, but since red denim isn't the easiest fabric to find (unless you get white and dye it, but dyeing can be awkward) I'd suggest trying for a cotton drill - again, friendly to sew, and with the same ribbed texture as denim as well as being a bit heavier and more structured for a jacket. |

If so, it depends on which staff you want to make, but I'd personally say the best thing to make any staff-type object from is a cardboard tube - the type rolls of fabric come on (try asking your local fabric shop for one of the empty rolls, often they're more than happy to give you as many as you want!) It's light, but sturdy, and con-safe. |

Ooh thanks odangochan - I never knew that @Dragon Wings: if this is for the staff rather than the costume, an alternative product you could use is drainage pipe (from hardware stores). I've used it for weapon-making before and it might not be as rigid for the shaft as the cardboard tube but at least it gives you an alternative option. Good luck |

I would have thought dranage pipe would be too wide for the whole staff, though it might do for parts.
If you make it out of anything hard, like a larp core, I'd be tempted to cover it in something like pipe lagging to make it a bit softer, as many cons have rules about weapons props and it would be ashame if you were limited when carrying it around. |
