Masquerade May 2010- Help!
cos I'm working really hard on too harder cosplayers then I did for my first expo, and because I want to get my confidence up, I'm going to do the masquerade next May

The problem is I am incredibally nervous now cos I don't Know what to do

It'll either be- Mel from Magical x Miracle (school uniform)

or- Hilary from Beyblade (Hilary Stardash version)

and I would really love some help and advice please

What kind of advice are you looking for? General masquerade tips, or just which character you ought to enter?

Looking at your profile they both look like beautiful costumes and either one would be great for a masquerade costume (although the reference pic for Mel is so small it's hard to see it very well!). You've done a fantastic job on the gradient dying on Mel's sleeves - it'd be nice to show that off! But then I don't know how much progress you've made on Hilary...

Sorry, not very helpful I know ^_^

I'm kinda looking for both since it'll be my second expo and first masquerade

I'm not starting hil until I have finished mel but it's alot more simplier then mel so won't take too long

and I didn't do the gradient dye- I got lucky and found an old top with the perfect sleeve so I cut it off bt it does make it look kl!

i've been in the masquerade and it does get nervous up there but you just have to relax and have fun, just act how your charcter would.

yeah that is true- I don't know why I'm nervous cos I have sung on stage several tiems before.

but what should I do in terms of music?

I know how you feel - I went in the masq this May and even though I've been on a stage so many times before, I was incredibly scared xD

The opening song for whatever anime your character is from is always a good fallback, although if you go with Mel that'll be tricky!

If you don't have a theme song then picking something that suits the character is the best thing you can do. Unfortunately I don't know much about either character so I couldn't make any specific suggestions I'm afraid!

A few I pass onto people at masqueraudes.

1. If your character is a happy and cheerful one keep on smiling and give a open exprssion of how cheerful your chatacter is. Showing any signs of doubt or hesitation and the crowd may pick up on it. Not saying this is a bad thing but it may reflect back on to you and nerves might kick in.

2. With music does your character have any music thats particluar to that character that can identify who you are better. For example when If were to go on stage as Franky from One Piece I choose a piece of music that has a nice groove and nice a beat (like Bob Sinclair - Rock this party) so I can perform different moves and poses at a good pacing in which the crowd can enjoy. It also helps to choose music that fits what kind of character u are cosplaying such as if you are cosplaying as Aerith from FF7 you are gunna have a thrash metal track like raining blood playing in the back ground, because it wouldn't be fitting.
