My mum wanted to show off some of her work and wanted comments and opinions of people. so i figured this would be the best place. ( pics in the costume profile)

sadly she doesn't know much about computers so i'm doing this part for her.

Sadly.. i no longer have it, i think in the end i made close to 10 of them? all different colours. but with 30+ pieces of armour to make it does wear you down.

as for a tutorial... *shudders* that thing took me 2-3 years to get right and at a great cost too.

Granted Iron Man has caught my eye..

i still ahve to upload more pics of my stuff, but this is mainly for me mums stuff but i have worked with industry professionals in costuming.

For the armour did you use PEP? or did you mould it from clay casts?

the suit was taken form the 6'8" statue which was them modified and cast in a urethane plastic

YOU CHEAT! lol, PEP is pepakura, you use card to fold the shapes of the armor and use fibreglass to coat it. Anyway, I suppose the cost was mainly for the statue right?

Ahhh yeah not a hug fan of pepkura, though i ahve seen some people do amazing things but its not for me.

As for cheating.. well i did have to modify it alot. plus i have to make it wearable.

the statue took about 8 months to find and cost me close to a grand. plus i used Silicone for moulds. i think i used close to 75kgs.

plus then there was urethan resin to buy, pigments clay, fiberglass for the mother moulds.

Don't get me wrong, i did have the statue but it was Alot of work. Alot, every now and then i think... Hell yeah!! lets make a better one!

then i remember working all 30 moulds and having to trim.sand and pain and mount and padd all 30ish pieces...

so you know. there are better ways of doing it i know that now.

just pulling your leg man, I know how much of a b*tch mould making can be to get right. But you might want to try a better helmet, the one you have is a bit out of proportion seeing from the picture...

from what i have seen you havent made anything any where near as good as his master chief you may be able to learn a thing or two from him for your HEV suit...

Dude, calm down. All I was doing was having a joke, and giving some constructive critisism. I dont do the whole mould making thing, mainly because its can sometimes be a complete pain to get right and it's very, very costly. I thinks hes done a darn good job, but the helmet just looks a bit wrong to me, thats all.

Hev suits being made from cardboard, the processes are completely different.

I do have to agree. the helmet wasn't in proportion. but i didn't sculpt the helmet so. i can't take credit there. a guy called Blue relms did sculpt a helmet and its the most accurate out there i have seen. i gave a suit to my buddy and he used the helmet of blue relm and it looks amazing with the suit.

there might be a better solution to card board as you're sort restricted to what you can do.

why don't you get some pink construction styrafoam and carve it out? that way you can sand larger areas quicker and get curves easier too.

Well, I like the challenge of using cardboard. And plus, it dont cost a dickie bird!
