Who lives in East Anglia? (Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire & Hertfordshire)
I am trying to create a regional group of cosplayers and convention-goers in East Anglia.

I have a website, which is http://animedia-east.webs.com in which you can join and use a forum, and I have a Facebook group which can be accessed from the site as well.

Eventually I'm sure East Anglian cosplayers would like to see an event happening HERE, which would most likely be in the Norwich area as it's pretty much central to the entire region and easy to get to by means of transport by rail.

This group is geared towards East Anglia, but ANYONE is welcome.

I need people to help me run it - not saying they will and then not - because the likelihood of success flying solo is quite slim.

The first who get really involved may be eligible to be made moderators on the website and/or on the Facebook group.

Get in touch.

I live in St Albans, in Hertfordshire, so I'd love to be part of the group! ^__^ I know quite a few Herts cosplayers that might be interested that I contact for you.

Also, I might be able to help run it ^^

I'll be starting at UEA this September, so I hope I can get in touch with you guys and hang out! I'm planning to go the the ReCon in Norwich's branch of Waterstones in November too.

Looking forward to it soooo much!

Well, I'm a Cambirgdeshire'ite.

Although not sure for how much longer though, as I am looking to move to London ASAP.

If you want any advice on running cosplay events (Masquerade's/Omake's etc) then please feel free to ask. I helped run the Expo cosplay stuff for a couple of Events with James and I am running the Ayacon's Sunday Night Live this year too.

Good luck with the group/project!

All of you would be welcome, even if you're from the region but living elsewhere, or even from elsewhere. I mean, London MCM Expo has people from all over the country going to it, so if we can get anything going in our end of the UK it's going to be for everyone.

Any ideas can go on the website forums etc, and on the Facebook group (there's a link to it on the website's homepage), so those of you who have experience running this sort of thing can put your knowledge in there too.

It does seem like there's quite a few of us as well!

Northampton is Midlands. It's between Milton Keynes and Birmingham - nowhere near us and not part of East Anglia at all. I thought it was closer than it is actually. I just looked it up on Google Maps and it's just north-west of Milton Keynes.

If you're interested, just being a member and using the forum would be a big plus, and getting others involved too if you can. ^_^'

Lots of people from Essex, a few from Herts and Cambs, but....Norfolk....Suffolk.....hello? *Echoes.*
Nah, any East Anglians and any people who would like to see yet another convention popping up.

Once there's enough bustling about on the forum, we can look at arranging meetings and discuss venues.
As far as East Anglia is concerned, Norwich has a few venues to try (but we'll need info about how to raise costs and the likes, etc - which all needs to be discussed on the forum). Norwich is also easy to get to from most places in the region. I don't know Hertfordshire to be honest, but it's easy to hop on a train to Norwich from Cambridge, Chelmsford, Colchester and Ipswich (I've made the route to London frequently).

Whatever anyone feels they can do, the minimal would be getting chat going on the forum and inviting friends.

how about starting off by organising something like a monthly or weekly meet-up. to get the ball rolling and see how it works/ build up enough intrest and reputation.
you culd get in touch with maybe a local hotel or even libary and see if theyre willing to hire out a room for maybe an hour or two a week for everyone to get together and i dunno trade manga/anime DVD's discuss upcoming events, help with cosplays and stuff.
to pay for the hire of the room, you could charge a small fee to put towards it. and get people to bring theire own snack food n drink
you could see if anyone has some AV equiptment and set up a film screening or something.
i think theres some sort of legal thing involved there though *charging people to view/listen to stuff*
im not entirely sure XD
but i think starting small would be a good idea, and then just hope word of mouth passes on ^^
as far as im aware theres no sort of 'club' in my area, so i'd be up for a weekly-monthly sort of thing?

hope thats some sort of help?..or idea?...or something XD

I agree with kitty_yachiru!
She has an awesome point there!
I'd be willing to help with the negotiations of a place to go in colchester!
Yeah!, i'll take care of colchester stoof!
Cause i live there and is convenient for me to ask around ^^
Give me a...messege?...something you know...
i'm free for god knows how long xD

It's a great idea - when there's enough people.
Weekly may be difficult for quite a few people considering the areas we're talking about here, monthly might be do-able later on, but I think we need to get a decent bunch of people together first.

If we can take all of this info to my forum that'd be good, as then the entire site is just about what goes on in our region then.

When it comes to cosplay, I think we should start off not going in costume...if only a few people turned up we'd look a tad weird - which isn't so bad if you're in quantity. We'd just say regular meets for us like-minded to begin with, so just the coffee place Marzano's at the Forum would be good to just meet and chat.

What I think we want is local meets which can be more regular, and then regional in Norwich let's say which would be frequent enough but less frequent than the local ones.

*Points to website forum*
This thread is an accumulation point! XD!

It all helps Kitty.
Just that if few people turned up at a hired venue the fee would be a big problem.

ooh, i didnt mean turning up in cosplay, as i wouldnt feel comfortable doing that in my area, im sure others may feel the same. i meant just as a silly idea of just cosplay advice like, how to sew this bit to that bit..and making props, sharing tips and that XD

i dont know if theres anything like scout huts in a suitable area? theres one near me which costs about £20 an hour which wouldnt be too bad? but i live in an impossible area so thats proboly why its so cheap.

anywhoo, im really looking forward to anything that happens (b^^)b
ive signed up to your website too. its well presented

You're both on there? Cool.

Kitty, there's a chance of the church hall near me (my parents attend there), but it's often used anyway so that's an uncertain.

I've put a list on the Facebook group of places in Norwich city centre that can be tried at some point though.
I will put that list on the website forum as well.

The site itself is webs/freewebs and it's a template I used on there. ^^'

Heya! I'm in Norwich!!!

Can't believe i didn't see this thread before.
I have a small group of anime / cosplay loving friends. It was bigger when everyone was here for uni but theres still a few of us left in Norwich and one extra not too far away in London.
There's a lot more out there though, i see quite a few people at Norwich Recon events and theres a fairly large group who regularly meet at the Forum. Though to be honest i never get round to attending that one myself.

Nice to see someone else is out there nearby!
I'll tell my friends about the thread. ^_^

I've sent you a private message TearGems.

MCM EXPO COSPLAY ROADSHOW - Might come to Norwich with enough interest!
If enough interest can be mustered, there could be one happening in Norwich. Essentially a smaller version of the bigger events that already happen with the group.

Join http://animedia-east.webs.com and use the forum there, show you're interested, and I can then get in touch with the MCM Expo group and give them details.

You can also e-mail me from the site as well.

And for anyone who hasn't got a message from me, the petition for it to be brought to our side of the country is here - http://www.gopetition.co.uk/petitions/mcm-expo-cosplay-roadshow.html and has a forum.

Japan: Kingdom of Characters
Hello all,

As this thread is for people living in East Anglia, I thought I'd draw your attention to an upcoming exhibition and events programme at the Sainsbury Centre of Visual Arts in Norwich.

Japan: Kingdom of Characters looks at the importance of characters in Japanese culture and how this has developed since 1950. The show features many well-loved stars of manga and anime. More details can be found at:

We also have a big event planned called After Hours: Kingdom of Characters which will feature cosplay, manga artists, a J-rock band and much more. Details of this can be found at:

Hope to see you there!

Lots of you in Norwich! I'm in Cambridge.

Talking venues, check out your local library. I haven't been up Norwich way, but I work for the libraries in Cambs, and we have loads of community venues. I imagine Norwich would have something similar.
