Just thought I'd start this thread (in the correct place this time >.>; for everyone attempting to make armour, now or in the future.

If you need any historical help on materials, or what that "something" on a drawing could be then there may be people who could help.

Also, help with designs and tips on what materials to use then this is also the place to ask.

For example:
I'll be making BLU Gauntlets within the week so if you have any suggestions or would like to know how I did them and the outcome do post ^^

There are a couple of methods for armouring

Craft Foam + Plasticard

Foam + Vinyl

Foam + PVA glue

Paper Mache

Gapoxio (for smaller pieces)

Fiberglass

Plastic

WonderFlex is also supposed to be very good,

The Armour Archive is a good place to start if your armour is or might have been based around actual armour

I've only ever done Craft Foam + Plasticard before, it was kind of like hell but then i'm not very crafty i always end up swearing at it within 10 minutes

I certainly use AA's (Amythest Angels) tutorial all the time. If you can get a hold of Plasticard (Styrene) and bend it well enough, it's amazing.

I know peeps like me, Delusional, Angelphie etc all do the whole Foam + Glue/card/Plasticard route.

thanks for the links i need some armour for next minimcon, any more tips for gundam based armour out there? as im planning on trying to make a cosplay of it for fun,

I used the Foam and PVA glue tutorial for all my seth armour, and found it worked really well, the armour has nice flexiblility to it, which made it more comfortable to wear!

The strongest cosplayers* use cardboard to make their armour. Exclusively.



*By which I mean the stupidest. Or alternatively, me.

Lol yeah but when you have such great results just from card it's hard to doubt your skills



I really don't think i'd have the patience for working with card though. I've tried making swords from card before and i'm really bad at it ^^;

Bumped into some of your guys at Collectormania in Glasgow this weekend. Thought I'd pass on some of the resources Ive been using to make my Halo Master chief armour..

First step is to make or find online a 3d model of the armour. I extracted the Master chief details from the game. Modding communities are essential help for unpacking

Download a program called PaPeKuRa Designer from Tama software. It's a program used by paper craft-ers to make templates from 3d models.. The advantage is the output from the program is scalable up to 2 meters. If your completed models bigger than 2m you'll need to make it in sections.

Lets you make stuff like THIS and THIS.

Here's some larger pics

Paperkura is a free program but unless you register it you can't save any progress so you'll need to do it all at once.

I've got a couple stored away somewhere; can't remember all of the ones i've got the plans for, but i know i've got Jackal, Joshua and Cosmo Dragoon
