Good Wigs
Hey guys,

So it's finished with one Expo and time to start to do the necessary repairing/ replacing for MCM Oct.

I'm looking for a replacement wig for my Sephiroth cosplay now because I think EXPO pretty much finished off an already old wig!! Also I am in need of a similar wig for next year as well.

What's the best site to buy from? I know there are lots of different fibers involved in wigs so which is the best to go for?? Any help advise would be appreciated muchly!

Kanekalon is the really good quality stuff - specialist cosplay places should list it as kanekalon, but I believe non-cosplay wig specialists describe it as "silky".

Cosworx have a good selection of wigs, as do Cosplay Wig on eBay (and they do them pre-styled, although they may not have Sephiroth in stock).

It depends on what you're going for in terms of length. If you want something really long (ie 50inches plus) then you're goinng to want to be looking at Zhenna on ebay or Amphigory. The longest cosworx go is 47inches but you'd have to cut the bangs yourself. Zhenna have a 51inch wig and amphigory also do a very long wig thats around 60inches but unless you can really care for it and have somewhere to store it hanging I'd avoid it or you will end up with a tangled mess.

If you're going for quality over length, although the majority of wigs listed are kanekelon (average grade fibre, most common used for wigs, I wouldn't look at anything below that) the quality does still vary between sellers. Zhenna, ProfessionalOnly, Cog&Marc, CosplayWig, Cosworx and Amphigory all stock kanekelon wigs but I would go for the last 3 if you wanted a better quality wig.
There's also Elora fibre wigs from New Look which are also great quality but you generally won't get the length.

If you can somehow get it shipped (they stopped directly shipping internationally) then the best quality fibre to go for would be something like modlon or powerlon rom cyperous.

Personally I would either go for Amphigory's 60inch (providing you have the space to store it) or Zhenna's 51inch for Sephy and maybe add a set of wefts in to thicken it up a bit.

To anyone's who's bought from Zhenna before - how thick are the wings and how easily does it tangle?

I've got a 40" wig from Cosplay Wig and it doesn't tangle much at all and it's a very lovely thick wig. However Zhenna is cheaper and generally has longer wigs so I was wondering what the quality is like.

I got the Angeal wig from there and it was LOVELY! The back was really nice and the wig cap fits nicely to. Though mainly for a female head XD The back didnt show any of the cap underneath

Aww cool! Might consider Zhenna instead then! <3 Thank yooou~ Was a bit worried because it looks a tad on the thin side in the photos they provided - but they still get good ratings!

I've bought quite a few of the 51inch wigs and have never had a problem with thickness. The longer wigs are a little thin sometimes but never to the point that it'll show weft. They're probably about a similar thickness to cosplaywig's longer wigs or a little thinner.
Because of the length they do tangle easily though. You're going to get that with any long wig however so it's really just unavoidable no matter where you go. You can either get some detangler or just give it a wash in conditioner to help prevent tangles especially if it's going to be down.

As Demented said, the caps are a little smaller than some and you can have some fitting problems sometimes if you've got a lot of hair under there or a larger head.

OMG thanks for all the feedback!!

I don't need to worry about the bangs too much, this will be my third ever Sephy wig and I long ago decided to do the frontal bangs myself (the ones at expo were transplanted from a failed Ebay wig and literally sewn in with pipe-cleaner support for the shape O.o)

However the rest of the wig from Expo was commissioned so I don't think it was very high quality personally (even if it did last about two years) but the thing with it was definitely thickness and length. By the end of the weekend I could feel the label sticking out through the back!! Regardless of how spot on people kept complimenting me saying the cosplay was I knew already the wig was inferior.

I was looking as Cosworx to buy from anyway, has anyone got a link to the cosplay wig shop on Ebay? Just because I generally don't use Ebay for wigs (long story, big mess) - so that I can have a look??
