May Expo 2009 Feedback
Although i know it shouldnt be here and i myself wasnt there.

I'd like to see how many of you thought about it...
why?
SJ...you're going to love this:
The admins are deleting negative comments or upsets about the event like the biased people they are

I thought it was pretty good! But it was hot.

There was Final Fantasy style play fighting outside. It was funny, especially when everyone did the victory theme!

And it was fun on the way there too! There was a cool group of cosplayers who got on the tube and bus with us. One of them had a leash around her neck and being told to be a good doggy!

Hot but amazing loads of Vocaloids which made my day, excellent company and watching everyone's cosplays coming in and out of the expo was amazing...

I loved the tube when you got nearer as your saw more and more cosplays before you even begin, I enjoyed cosplaying and waiting for october to start it all over again

Thought it was good.

The only comp[laint I really had was the lack of consistancy with the layout of the stalls.

Some, like tokyotoys, had a huge amount of extra space around them. Yet many others, like neon martian, had hardly any space infront of their stand, making it really difficult to move around to certain sections.

Add this to the fact they decided to put some of the 'celeb guests' right next to the exit, didnt help make things any easier and it was sometimes near impossible to get out!

I think they seriously need to let someone else sort out the layout of the hall, rather then just mixing everything up and cramming as many stalls together as possible.

My only complaints were that they still really need to get the queuing for the masquerade better organised, and that they should have known that the masquerade was going to overrun, and kept the shuttle buses on for longer. I pity anyone who had to try and get home after saturdays masquerade!

Aside from that, I loved it. It was very busy, but we just stayed out of the hall on saturday and did our shopping on sunday when it was less busy. XD Best expo since May 2007.

My only complaint would be the lack of variation in the stalls, it seemed like a lot of them had merged into one in terms of what they were selling. There was far more anime trinkets than film stuff which I know usually happens but it was really obvious this year.
And of course the amount of free hugs people, especially those who wouldn't take no for an answer. Seriously, why do people still do it? They're attracting the wrong sort of attention and most of them look pretty sad and lonely. I think it's an inevitable part of expo though that we'll never get rid of.

25 May 2009 - 11:1014838
It was good, but the for the record attempt, the lack of sign's or any contact to the cosplayers to WERE it was being held was awfull, i was sent to the cosplay desk at first because aparetnly it was in there, then from there i was sent back outside, to find there was nothing out there, and after going back inside, to ask at another information desk, they said it was in the tunnel, which was empty when i'd just looked, so after getting lunch, we did go back and there was the HUGE que of people. So the lack of organisation there was a bit bad.

I'd also like to agree on the layout of the stalls, it was all very tight and crowed.

but other than that, both days were fantastic! ^^

25 May 2009 - 13:1514841
My complaint was the mass amount of signs that were there. I had at least four people shove a sign in my face and ask me for money or food, or just out right hurtling themselves at me because they think 'free hug' signs mean glomping is okay.
One of my friends got a mask that was glued to him, ripped off his face because a sign wielder asked for a hug and when he said yes she took that as 'Feel free to run at me and knock me over.', and left him with a really angry looking patch of skin where it had ripped off.
So my real complaint is that they do something about signs. ;-; Some people are alright with them, but their seems to be an increase of people using them to harass cosplayers and get rude with them. I know they can't police people, but the signs and people who have them are growing each year and its getting too much. I even had a sign holder grab at my chest when he hugged me, asking me "Where are your boobs?". -_-

My other complaint is the stalls. It seemed to be nothing but Naruto, Death note and Bleach. Thats the second expo where I've bought nothing because of the sheer lack of...well... anything else on the stalls. XD

The general atmosphere was great, very hot, but other than those two things it was a good time...Oh except for the crazy caterpillar trees!*dies*I had a huge one on my leg after taking pictures for my friend under them! XD

I found this expo actually quite pleasent as far as other people's behavior went.

I got one person who really insisted on a free hug with his giant sign, but luckily I had my can of (crowd friendly and asthma friendly) smoke on me. So he gets right in my way, I grab my can, shout "FREEZE RAY" and shoot him square in the chest with it.

Guy freaks, jumps out of the way, I shout "It's okay- It's crowd safe!" and keep walking.

I feel it was a funny way out of a bad sitution with no one harmed in the process. He seemed to think it was funny too, and may think twice next time he gets to in someone's face.

I have no qualms with the expo... The staff were fine and I spent half of Sunday morning talking to them backstage!

BUT!

Using double sided tape to stick down the red carpet was a good idea in theory (As so not to slip off) but... The health and safety team mentioned canceling the masqurade as it had baked on overnight and was still VERY sticky...

I volunteered to carve it off with a stanley knife (took about and hour) to keep the masq. going... So please... NO STICKY STUFF AT THE EXPO XD

(If any of you noticed that the paint was missing from the stage... That was what I had to do to get rid of it!)

No worries about it though XD

25 May 2009 - 14:3314849
I didn't find the free huggers a problem this time...maybe I learnt not to make eye contact LOL.
It was hot, and the caterpillar trees were horrible, but thats beyond anyone's control lol.
Err...On the Saturday it was horribly crowded in there, but I was expecting that so its all good
Oh yeah, and I hate how the admin are deleting the comments on mcm forums. Like how they locked the travelling to expo thread and then posted something NOT HELPFUL in its place >.< it was annoying.
But the expo itself was great, and i met some awesome people ^_^

Stu; that's pretty interesting LOL I'm about to go check out the forums there too!

I actually found behaviour of people to be a MASSIVE problem. The people there were outright rude, shoving people aside, pushing through people, my wing is almost destroyed due to people pushing past. One guy pushed passed, something in my wing snapped, he turned, sneered and glared then kept going...

So yes, I'm pissed. Saturday was crap, Sunday was much better.

Either way, as per usual, it was the PEOPLE that made the convention. God dammit I love you all ^_^

That's why I prefer cons so much! I hadn't been to a London expo since nearly 2007 I think and I remembered why I hadn't! I still enjoyed it, but I nearly came into a slanging match with one free hugger who actually followed me through the door before he got the message. My boyfriend generally made them walk away though by going 'I prefer quality over price for my hugs'. I think if someone brings a box of 'free slugs' next time those idiots will get the message.

I think my friend mentioned someone broke your wing last night after someone damaged her Midna hood because he jumped out at us. D8
People can be such gits, I'm sorry to hear about your costume being damaged. ;-;

Did anyone else get attacked by a TONNE of people outside the con doing 'running hugs'? I was stood with my friend on the Sunday and about ten people ran at us screaming and squashed us in between them and got our suits dirty (I had finger marks on my blazer in god knows what XD). D8 It was funny later, but damn did I have some bruises where one of them crashed into my side. >.<

Yeah, that's right ¬_¬

And running hugs = glomps. You've now experienced how fail they can be!

Wasn't there a girl at a Minami or an Ame that had her wrist broken by a glomp? She had to miss the entire con.

25 May 2009 - 16:4614866
lol sj the admin went
The boards are not the complaints department, there was 2 info points at the show for people to raise concerns and you can contact the MCM Expo on email and phone. Feedback is welcome but posts that just complain after the fact with lines like it's my last Expo just make a post pointless.

Thank you and please contact MCM Expo directly

Last year the expo was good this year it was
far toooo hot. People kept pushing me and my fiance out of the way so we got our revenge with the buggy (sorry to any peeps on here I rammed the buggy with x)

I hope next year wont be as bad but if peeps miff me off I will have to set my son on them (he will be nearly 2 as he is only 9 months old now) but hey if you see a little boy and a 4 yr old girl dressed as Ratchet & Clank next year it my two lol.

As for the free hugs, the only person who got a free hug was my sis who was dressed as someone from The World Ends With You. Loads of peeps had signs about free hugs dont see why they had them really.

25 May 2009 - 21:1714890
I've been quite lucky to avoid issues with free-huggers and glompers this weekend. I say no and walk away. Although the mass pushing crowds kept knocking my Kairi bag and I had to keep running to the cosplay desk for hot glue.

Sorry to hear about your wing Sean =( If I manage to make wings for Dead Fantasy Rinoa I don't think she'll be safe to bring to an expo... it would have to be on a Sunday at least.

I just ignore the free huggers and whatnot. Luckily I didn't get hassled by them!
And overall I had a really great expo weekend! Saturday was very busy and I honestly enjoyed Sunday alot more.
Kinda gutted I only cosplayed one day as Sunday was so much more fun, I met some really lovely people!!!
I'd say I'd look forward to seeing people in Oct and all the cosplays, but I'm going to Fuyucon! So I look forward to seeing those of you who are going =D
(Anyone else really excited to be starting their next cosplays? I know I am!)

25 May 2009 - 21:3914892
AMAZING!! Wow, just got back home and I felt so sad to be going back to boring ''reality'' again this afternoon. I had what I can only describe as the best time ever. The weather was perfect, the people were better, and the cosplays I saw were truly inspirational.

I knew I'd enjoy my first expo, but I didn't know I'd enjoy it THIS much. I have cosplay fever!

I met so many charming individuals but neverbeamemory, Uber-Nerd, Odd-One-Out and Ranmasayoran... Seriously. You people are just... Cool.

25 May 2009 - 22:0314895
Despite getting attacked by caterpillars I had a great time! I didn't get attacked by free huggers at all which was awesome, I think the main reason for that was because they wouldn't have been able to hug me in my dresses anyway, YEAH! >8D

My dress was kinda falling apart on Sunday so that was annoying. So Saturday was definitely my favourite day despite how crazy it was [although I did worry more Emi would die from a stress related heart attack, eep! Hold on Emi! XD] - I got to talk to so many more people on Saturday which was fantastic, the Expo itself was same old same old. I also had my best masquerade experience so far! I'm also happy that people were lovely enough to help get the caterpillars off my dress despite how I reacted to them XD; I know I kinda over-reacted >_>;

Like others it was the people that made this expo great. I'm starting to get rather bored of it so I'm really glad I'm old enough to go to conventions finally, this is why I'm looking forward to Fuyucon so much 8D

And yes after working on cosplay everyday for the past few weeks I miss it and really want to work on my next ones X_x;

25 May 2009 - 22:0914896
Oh yeah... Horray for sunshine!

This was for me one of my least favourite expos. I mean up until this the event had seen mino but consistent improvement but this one was a shambles.

The layout was terrible the walkways between a number of the stands was rediculously small, the stals were spread out rather randomly across the hall and the lack of many comic merchandising stands was dissapointing.

Was it just me or was there a surge of people on the saturday this year numbers appeared to have dramatically increased thus baking everyone when they were all together. Growth in numbers is a good thing but maybe growth in floor space would help counteract it.

Ialso noticed there were several really annoying people walking round mocking cosplayers and for example calling out names at cosplayers when it was blatantly not the costume they were wearing like shouting out sephiroth at pretty much all bleach costumes and pikachu at anything yellow.

signs didnt bug me as much as previously, though the free necrophilia person was mildly disturbing.

It was still an ok event just lacked something this year.
