Commissioners not to go to-Pictures inside!!
I started this thread so other people hopefully won't make the mistake of going to any of these commissioners and getting horrible quality products!

I'm starting off with Sakura wigs, I ordered a Terra wig from them last November, it didn't make it here until March and the state it came it was horrific, and there were gaps where hair had just been brushed over, it literally fell apart.

I have the photos to prove it.

http://i321.photobucket.com/albums/nn370/Red-Magess/S5000314.jpg

The amount of hair that fell out in less than 15 minutes with very gentle handling.

http://i321.photobucket.com/albums/nn370/Red-Magess/S5000318.jpg

Yes that is my hand you can see through that wig, and this is at the FRONT!

So Do NOT go to Sakura wigs, they charged me $120 for this and refused to give me all my money back.

See what I mean? for the sake of your bank account and your sanity, do not go to this commissioner. If anyone else has had bad experiences please post them here with pictures if you can to make sure no one else makes the same mistake.

To admin: Is it possible to get this thread stickied?

Cosplay-oh

They sell full costumes on ebay but I commissioned something from them via email after hearing they sell the zips to their Organisation 13 coats separately. So I was only going by photos of one of these coats but they informed me the zips were metal. They were in fact plastic.
I asked if they could shorten them as I was using them for Kairi's dress which obviously isn't as long as the Org coats. They confirmed they could do this and asked for the lengths then emailed back to confirm these measurements.
However when they turn up the zips are about as long as I am tall (and I'm 5 foot 7 inches). I PAID them to do these adjustments and they cheekily told me I could "easily" do it myself when I complained. Actually you can't as the moment you cut a zip the zipper can fall off the end.
Also they lied about the shipping date. Told me they posted them on or before the 21st April but the paperwork with the seller's handwriting on says 6th May.

So it's not really a case of the stuff commissioned being bad quality... but the commissioner constantly lying and I'm still struggling to get a refund, I've had to take it up through PayPal.

I cannot believe what the wig looked like when you showed me Kaythenia!
Someone in our Golden Sun group next weekend sadly ordered all three of their wigs from them and said they're extremely bad quality (and smell bad). O.o

I was rather unhappy with the seller I went with for my very first costumes in terms of both sizing and quality. It was tssy2005 on ebay, the fabric quality was fairly average but all three needed a lot of alterations before they were anything close to my size and lacked quite a lot of detail.
Come-on-cosplay however I was extremely happy with, good fit, nicely made and details were spot on.

Last on that has to be added is Honest Dragon China on ebay. I've never personally bought from them simply for the fact that I've spoken to far too many people that have been disapointed with them. Extremely hit and miss for quality, definitely not advised for anything other than very simple costumes.

My friend bought a couple of things from honestdragonchina. I haven't looked at either item all that closely but I think he got lucky with them - he hasn't had any complaints (although one outfit did include a waist cincher that made no sense when you looked at it).

That said, I know they steal photos and use fabrics that are cheaper than and inferior to what's used in those photos, so that on its own should be enough reason to avoid them.

The solution? NEVER buy wigs from Hong Kong OR China. 9 times out of 10, they are absolute crap. I've ordered from each company on ebay at least once to test out the quality, and in all that time I've only had 2 out of about 18 wigs that were any good at all, and the companies NEVER gave refunds or exchanges.

It's really a hit or miss with wigs on Ebay! I've bought from USA, Hong Kong, Taiwan and all kinds of countries really, and some are pure love and others usually go in a bag never to see the light again!

I got one wig from a Hong Kong seller this morning, and I am planning to marry it!

My gf ordered her Matsumoto of a random ebay seller because the price was right, heres hoping O_o

i've not bought a massive number of wigs from ebay (and i'm a cosplay purist and have only ever made my own costumes. don't believe in buying them) but they've all been fairly good.
the long ones were a bit thin when trying to style but that's to be expected and also easily worked around.

i buy my wigs from:

Professional Only
Le Color Co
and on the odd occasion that i find a good priced kaneklon fibre wig, from a seller with 99-100% positive feedback.

i think you need to use your discretion whe buying wigs and double and triple check the feedback comments and product description.

My housemate has ordered from honestdragonchina for one of their chinese-esque outfits *doesn't know the name* she wanted it in different colours to the ones in the picture and so in an email showed her the colours she wanted and where. It took a long time to arrive, but when it did it was absolutely beautiful, very well made and with the *exact* colours my friend wanted. It was perfect!

If I remember rightly I think I also bought my Sailor Uranus fuku from them too, again absolutely no problem with it. Its very nice quality for what I paid for and hasn't fallen apart even after several wearings and has survived wind/rain and even the washing machine! It even came with the gloves and choker too. So I gotta say I have no complaint with that particular seller!

As for wigs, I buy from Professional Only and CosplayWig only really, as between them they have a huge collection for nearly everything you need, I'd say they're the best people to go to on eBay for good wigs at good prices (though due to the failure of the pound they're a bit more expensive than they used to be T_T). Never had a problem with either seller - just be aware that PO wigs can be a little thin and that's it.

I know this is a not-to-go-to thread, but still, I don't think I've ever had any significant problems with any ebay sellers! Maybe I'm just very lucky! ^^;

I've only found the long straight wigs from Professional Only to be a bit thin, anything with layers in is beautiful, and considering the price (most things are still around £15-20 with shipping) it's very reasonable. Only problem is you can't always find what you need (very few yellow wigs for example).

I also love the way they smell! Strange but true.

I buy pretty much all my wigs from professional only on ebay. And the occasional one from Cosworx if I can't find it anywhere and if I have some money to spare.

I haven't ever had a problem with professional only. The wigs are good condition, exactly what they look like on the site, and last and style beautifully.

Cosworx wigs, the quality is the best, their shipping time is crap though. You can't order a wig from them if the con is in 2 weeks say. You have to order with about 4 months to spare.

i have always bought from professional only from ebay. the only complaint i have is that they offer a free gift with their wigs which i have never recieved. And when you ask them about it they just ignore you. but apart from that they are great! postage has always been quite quick.

I second and third both Profesional Only and Cosplaywig from ebay. never bought my wigs from anywhere else and so far they've made a great impression.

Heeeey yeah that's a good point! I've ordered two wigs from professional only so far, one which stated they would give me a free gift but I never got it >8O I didn't care so much though because every free gift I was given from a wig company on eBay was... useless xD

I've bought from quite a few sellers: Professional only, Cosplay Wig, wigmad, powerseller_gm [something like that...], Lulu's wigs and recently, Zhenna. They've all been very good wig sellers although not the thickest in the world, apart from Cosplay Wig <3 But I didn't mind so much because I always buy long wigs for styling so I can cut it to the correct length and use the excess as wefts~

My only complaint is that for Lulu's wigs it took months for it to arrive =___=, although the wig quality was lovely! I think the lateness was just a one off because judging from their feedback they very rarely received bad feedback. Ummmm, I think that's the only problem I've had from wigs...

wigmad and powerseller_gm were especially thin compared to the others I bought from however they were super cheap [wigs were around the £10 or under!] so what you pay is what you get. Still it's not so thin that it would show the netting, but you can't do much styling with it!

The best thing to do if you're buying costumes or wigs from eBay is check their feedback and picture quality. Funnily enough, the better the picture, the better the product seems to be in my experience. It's weird but it works out. For example, CosplayWig are very good, as well as Cosplay07 (where I got my Miku costume from) and another seller by the name of HumanGo or HumanCos or something along those lines - they even offered to give me a discount being as I was tight on money at the time.

---

I used Milanoo once when I wanted to do a Ragnarok Online cosplay - I bought a female High Wizard costume. Although the guys at Milanoo didn't make it themselves (it's wholesale or something), the quality of parts of the costume was pretty crappy and it didn't fit very well. I emailed them, asked if I could return it and get a refund and they said yes.

Then, I got an email telling me that where they're based is closing down in no more than a few days - about a week before my costume will arrive back to them - meaning they wouldn't recieve it. Therefore, I would not get a refund.

About £70 down the drain. I might as well as took a trip over to China and handed it to them.

Despite this, the guy who sorts out issues via MSN for the company was very kind and offered me a discount on my next purchase. Being as they have an offer on right now for Naruto costumes, I'm considering buying a Kurenai outfit for JCulture Con in October. It's only £28, and if they end up moving again there's no way in hell that I'll be giving them any more chances.

maybe its a conspiracy so that they would get to keep your £70 o.O

Dont worry, the free gift is just some horrible hairclips xD

20 Jun 2009 - 19:1315958
That said, I think it's mainly hit and miss with quality on eBay. I don't get my costumes commissioned so I don't really know, but I did have Honestdragonchina make a coat for me way back when that was my own design (before I could be trusted to handle that much fabric with a sewing machine ^^) and it came out perfectly and I've been using it for two or three years now and it's just what I asked for and I've never had to alter it O__O

I guess I must have been lucky.

Also, I think it's important that you define between commissioner and supplier. I think that with wigs, a good supplier is key. If the commissioner has a good supplier to start with then the wig will likely turn out better. Otherwise, it's not really the stylist's fault if a wig turns up badly because of it being thin, or the fibre brittle.

Sorry I don't really have any valuable input on this topic- I look at things from being a commissioner rather than a customer, BUT I will say that I try my utmost best to get done exactly what my customers want so I'm not sure why any commissioner would settle for a cut-rate job, or how their pride allows it O__O

Has anyone ever bought anything from ebay seller cosplayying before? Am curious to know before I commit to paying anything

22 Jul 2009 - 12:5617535
I know this is a not-to-buy thread but I think it's nice to let people know safe sellers too ^^

I've only bought 2 cosplays on eBay (or at all) before, one from tssy2005 and one from Come-on-Cosplay. They were both really well-fitted actually ^^ I needed to tighten the bust a little on the one from tssy2005 but otherwise they were fine ^^

As for wigs, I buy from these sellers, they're really good!
Professional Only (lovely colours, though long wigs are quite thin)
Cog_marc (lovely quality, nice and thick)
Designer-wigs-and-color-wigs [aka. zhenna0036] (good for long wigs, very cheap, their ringlet wigs are to die for as well)

And also Cosworx if you have the time and an inordinate amount of money to spare >_O

I think I bought a Tohru Honda outfit off them for my first expo (may 2008) and it came out lovely I would recommend them if you're thinking of buying 8D

As for my cosplay mishaps, I went to Cosworx for my Kari wig, and was annoyed to find they emailed back saying the wig that I had ordered was not being sold anymore. So why did they still have it on the website? D<
I asked for another wig, same thing happened, they weren't selling it anymore. I had to end up with a wig that wasn't the right length/shape I was looking for (hence why I had to clip back the hair to get the Kari bob) T-T

I got my Freya wig from Professional Only, and it was gorgeous *u*

Just want to say thanks to the OP and everyone else here. Now I know which wig sellers to go to! I've bought two bad wigs before (two long ago, can't remember the names of the sellers) and since then got too suspicious of them and ended up using my own real hair all the time... even for Hitsugaya cosplay! XD
