Cosplay Ball?
There's supposedly a cosplay ball after the MCM Expo October on the Saturday. I was wondering if anyone had any information about it.
Do ya?

Um...the one last year was complete crap? LOL and I was in one of the bands playing at the event. They ruined a lot of hard work, picked the worst venue possible, played NO ballroom music and didn't end up enforcing the dress code. We all came in suits and dresses but got j-pop and a "dancefloor" with barely any room and pillars in the middle.

What's more, the "food" was poor and I was angry because they sent people out for food while my band were getting ready to play, meaning that some people who ONLY CAME to see my band, didn't even see my band.

And when people started complaining about it on the forum...they deleted it LMAO

That basically sums it up! I arrived a little late and seriously it was just like...sitting in a bar...which is all fine and well but it's not really a ball is it? O.o I was just glad I got the ticket for free! XD

As for this year isn't there a saturday 'party' instead?? I think they dropped the 'ball' bit after last years...>_>

I had roughly the same beef with the amecon ball, I mean it was awesome!! but the ballroom ethic and dress code was only kept for about 3 hours of the night before it was back to J-rock/pop

im not saying i didnt have fun but if they would have said it was only for like a few hours I really would have dressed down as alchemist uniforms begin to get hot after a while. hoping fuyucons will be at least longer O_o I can imagine alucards frock coat getting extremely warm O_o

And this is why everyone should hope there'll be another Grand International Cosplay Ball this year. Now that was a great event, I'm sure Mocara will pop up and explain more....

I wish I had enough money to go to that the only real chance I get to dance properly I have to make do with tiny cons

Okay. So, they changed it to a party? No ball?

...

I can't go to the Grand International Cosplay Ball -I think-, I'm too young. That is 18 and overs, isn't it?

Thank you all for your help.

To be fair, it was always described as being this way. I think the idea was to make sure that those who weren't interested in a ball still got to have fun on the final night rather than do nothing at all. The second and third cosplay balls at Ame were much much better than the first one, which didn't enforce any dress code and lacked a "ball atmostphere". It wasn't as dreadful as the Expo ball though

Ah, there isn't a cosplay ball this Expo, there's a cosplay party instead. My friends and I are going, as it was only £6 a ticket. I do understand that those wanting an actual ball would obviously have been very disappointed in October, I've heard all about it xD

However, as far as a party goes, there's a bar, my friends/boyfriend are there, I'm eating before I go so no worries about food, and it was cheap. Truly honestly, any night that includes that I'll be pretty happy with xD

It doesn't sound like anyone else on this thread is going, so I'll post a review when I get back from Expo to let you know if it was an improvement or not!

However, we all knew about that in advance LOL Expo's one was a nasty surprise LMAO

And guys, remember that they're asking about OCTOBER. In May it's just a party but I believe they're right in thinking that in October it'll be a ball again. I could be wrong though.

Although this is not an official announcement, there will be a Grand International Cosplay Ball again this year and we hope to provide you with an even more magical experience than last time

Planning is under way but as you know, we like to present you with a full event all at once, rather than just dribs and drabs, so watch this space!

Grand International Cosplay Ball is something I want to make it to this year. MCM Expo balls and parties have never been great in my opinion.

One thing I want to do one day is go to this:
http://www.labyrinthmasquerade.com/

They're doin it rite!
Now if only it wasn't in an uber-posh expensive hotel in Los Angeles... *sob*

Hi Everyone

Not to be one to shy away from controversy.

We accept that we had problems with the Expo ball in October and Sean as you know I have apologised to you.

This is the reason why we asked for feddback for furture gatherings and the reason that the Saturday night is a party rather than a Ball which seemed to be the best way to go.

We kept the cost low and to be honest I agree the food was not that great!

We could only offer what the hotel offered us, so that is why we did not offer this option this time.

Hopefully everyone will enjoy this much less formal get together and continue the fun through the evening.

Thanks

Paul

Actually Paul, I never received an apology or I would have been far less upset about the whole situation and have in fact attempted to sort stuff out since then through e-mails. It's in the past now though and I'm over it. Was just a bit annoying considering SOMA got better treatment and they were terrible!

Sean

If I did not I apologise, which I thought I had.

I apologise to you unreservedly.

Hopefully we can catch up with each other next week and have a chat.

I do not want you to think that was the normal way of doing things as it was not and that is why we listened to people and adapted the Saturday to what they wanted.

Thanks

Paul

That's ok then Paul. I certainly don't want there to be bad blood between us or anything of the sort. I hope we can catch up. I was mostly disappointed at the timing that everyone went for food, as a lot of those people had come to the event solely to see my band and then missed us almost completely.

I understand

Sorry it played out that way.

Again that is why we have listened to feedback and adapted the Saturday night to what people have asked for, which is a much less formal get together.

Hopefully people will enjoy themselves.

Paul
