Amulet Spade help =]
I'm going to start making my Amulet Spade cosplay for the masquerade I am doing with my friends - after the one at kitacon we got all fangirly and take part in the next one

We're going to be;
Me; Amulet Spade
Kate; Amulet Heart
Amy; Amulet Dia
Rachael; Amulet Clover

I'm a perfectionist so I want every single detail to be accurate, but I need a little help to get me started -

What material should i use for the shorts and hat?

What should I make the giant paintbrush out of?

How would I make the spade for the hat?

How would I make the tails of the bow stick out and stay that way?

How would I attach the ruffles to the front?

References;

Paintbrush;

I'd really appreciate the help~

=]

I don't know if it will help, but have you looked at the Shugo Chara Eggs for reference?

As they seem to run around and dance in this costumes they seem pretty practicle, I don't know what fabrics they use but someone with a better eye than me might be able to work it out

The shorts could be made from polycotton royal blue fabric
The hat could be a light blue cotton or a thicker fabric like twill

The spade on the hat could be fimo or air dry clay and then painted and varnished (make sure you put a pin in the back to pin it onto the hat...)

thin wires should do the trick, they can be hidden around the outside of the tails...

and the ruffles should be sewn on with a gatherer sewing foot, or to be gathered and then sewn

hope this helps

I reccommend Poly-cotton. it's light weight and pretty easy to work with. ^^

Uhm....... Chicken wire and papier mache?
make the shape put of chicken wire, sutff it with newspaper and papier mache over it? it'll take a while but will be worth it.

How would I make the spade for the hat?

I made my Diamonds for AmuDia out of the same yellow fabric and stuffed it with wadding so they were like little cushions. but i supposed you want it to be shiny?
could make it out of clay or something. in which case i reccommend Crayloa Model Magic so it's light weight (or it'll pull your hat down), you can buy it from amazon and it's just the best stuff ever to make details with.
or use iridescent fabric if you make it using the cushion idea?
blue PVC maybe?

How would I make the tails of the bow stick out and stay that way?

light weight wire frames?

How would I attach the ruffles to the front?

are you modifying a shirt? or are you starting from scratch. with the shirt idea, maybe attatch the ruffles to a panel of fabric, sew to on one side of the button and then attatch velcro or hooks and eyes to the toehr side and stick it closed?
just for practicality and to tamke it easier to get in and out of.

EDIT: Editing what limegreenjelly said about the gathering foot. you don't NEEd one, you can set your machine to a wide stitch and sew 2 lines down the length of the ruffles, only doing the backwards stitch thing at the top and then gather them yourself. hold the threads and the bottom and slowly and carefully push the fabric up the threads. it's fiddly but it works just as well. ^_^

I don't like the Shugo Chara Egg outfits either. they look good enough but on a closer inspection they're all very inaccurate.
it bugged me. >w<
so i totally get it.

just one little thing >.<

I usually hand stich stuff, so how would I do it without using a sewing machine?

a long running stitch would do the trick, knot the end and go in and out with the needle losely and then ruffle it up and do and smaller running stitch to stitch it all in place

hope this helps a bit
