After I poster this thread on Cosplay.com I felt like cosplay island could do with it too.

I made this thread to try and reduce the amount of "what age should I stop cosplay" and hopefully it will.

If you're still enjoying it, and there are still characters you like and cen get away with cosplayin then you shouldn't stop.

no one cares about peoples ages anyways. almost all my cosplay friends are younger than me but because we're all into the same stuff it doesn't even register half the time. *shrug*

I think as long as you feel good, you can cosplay ... we have got a 40 years old math teacher still cosplaying and joining our cosplay competetions.

I don't know when I will stop, especially because I look younger than I am ... so fore me it is still ok cosplaying different younger characters.

Also there are characters, you only can cosplay when you are older or look older.

I'm 28 and don't see myself stopping any time soon. I enjoy making clothes and wearing costumes too much. I know I can't quite get away with really young characters anymore (although I still think I did OK with Ririn) and may well start shifting towards general sci-fi costuming in the future, but I don't believe that you should stop cosplaying purely because of your age, so I won't.

I'm 34 and have been cosplaying for 17 years. I did consider retiring after 20 years but I doubt that will happen. I have waaayyyyy to much fun. I get to act and show my creative streak in one swoop. Whats not to love. I have a couple of friends in they're 40's who still cosplay and they love it.

Believe it or not the best Mimi cosplayer (Digimon) I ever saw was an old woman with a zimoframe and a Palmon stuck to the front of it. Her costume was PERFECT and despite her wrinkled face, she still had a gleaming spark to her eyes and she looked fantastic. I stand by that this woman is a hero and example to the entire cosplay community (I shall have to find a photograph again and post it up). Although I have heard that there are several OAP Mimi's out there according to rumour O__O (I doubt this is true.)

I'm 18. I cosplayed first... well... when I was 10 and dressed as Kasumi from Pokemon most likely. You can do the reverse and say what age can one start cosplay? Because when we are kids and dress up we might not acknowledge it as cosplay but it is still cosplaying, yes?

I think that cosplaying isn't about how one looks, but about the costume and the characterisation and the heart behind it. If you're 40 and you want to dress up then go for it. Just because you don't look like the character because of your age it doesn't mean you shouldn't do it O___O (You just can't be sure of the reactions you will get)

It's not the same old woman as Granny Rikku, is it? I love her, she's marvellous!

I want to be an OAP cosplayer. I'll still be going if I reach that age XDD

I think... that I'll stop cosplaying when I stop going to conventions and expos.
Though when that happens, I don't know.
I have a feeling that I'll still be able to cosplay as a teen when I'm 30. My friends think my mum looks like she's in her early 20s.

Hurhur, ditto! I want to be able to cosplay Granny Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle when I'm a little old lady x] And Wicked Witch of the Waste... and perhaps Yubaba from Spirited Away as well xDD So many old ladies that would be fun x]

I was just going to mention then it'd be fun to cosplay younger cosplayers when being an OAP as well just like Granny Rikku - just because she was awesome 8D

I'm gonna keep going forever! Hopefully I'll still be able to get away with young characters for a few more years, but even when im all shrunk and wrinkly ill probably doing something cosplay related!

I'm 23 and have only been cosplaying for 2 years and i dont see my self stopping soon.

She is awesome. I would to still be cosplaying when I'm older as I've had so many great memories from cosplaying/cons. I hope to continue to do so. Also, I hope that I can still look fabulous for my cosplays. At least my hair will be the right colour for a lot of my cosplays, lol!

Yesh indeed! I can think of no better excuse for getting to hang around with some lovely Howl cosplayers all day when I'm 80 XDD

I think the effect is lost without it here and we'll just get a copy of the previous age posts. It's a feature that may be added in the future

no such phrase as "too old". why conform to an ageist philosiphy?

i'll be "cosplaying" for a long long time since i'm turning my drive to make costumes into a direction for my education. (when i find the £24k for the course in the US x_x )

Im on the other end of this scale, which kind of makes me think, is there an age thats to young to start cosplaying, as i started when i was 12, yes i was some narutard, and then a yaoitard, but over the 2 years (luckily) ive changed alot
But i still think if its somthing you love, then any age goes! ^^
Although at times i find when your aproched by a 30 somthing old male cosplayer who wants a photo with you a LITTLE worrying, as i am only 14, but hey-ho, somthing i'll learn to live with 8D

im 24 at the moment and im def not cosplaying anytime soon.... and when im not cosplaying i will be helping my son and my neice and nephew with there cosplays lol....

22 here, and i dont see myself giving this up anytime soon. just looking at the birthday shouts here on this site tells me that most cosplayers on this site are either my own age, or older than me, or so it seems. i say that as long as you still enjoy it, and your still healthy enough, then do it!
