Paper Mache Pulp/Clay
Okiedokie peoples I've been looking for alternative materials for getting a smooth final layer for Merida's Bow, I was looking at mainly a resin coating but then also thought of a Paper Mache Clay/Pulp material as a possible choice?

Anyone got any experience with using this choice of material and what's the pros and cons of it?

Many thanks!

I've never used paper clay before but Kamui uses it and she gets a pretty good finish. She uses a detail sander to smooth it off. I'd just get some and give it a go. Some people use gesso which is just acrylic paint mixed with clay on top to give more of a surface to sand but I'm not a fan of it.

One of the pros is it's quite light weight but obviously the more you use the heavier it will be but Kamui warns that it can be time consuming because it needs to dry and obviously as its just paper might need to be overnight to dry.

I've used a kind of paper pulp in the past, it's good because it's light and surprisingly tough but it takes a LOT of sanding down and filling in holes. I'm not sure it's something I'd use for a relatively slim item like a bow, I would say it's more suited to armour pieces.
