Pryn Hawn Da! - Good afternoon from wales!
Hey there!

I think I should start this off by just stating that at the moment of posting this I have never Cosplayed nor even actually attended any conventions where people have Cosplayed, however I would like to get into it soon.

Several weeks ago on the ITV show "This Morning" I watched an interview where they spoke to 4 Cosplayers who appeared on air in their outfits, this is kinda where my interest sparked from as soon after that I was on the internet watching videos of things like the Blizzcon costume contest and more. Honestly the costumes that some people come up with are just amazing, cute and everything in between. I dunno if you could tell by the picture I chose for a profile pic I'm quite a fan of Final Fantasy so I've already actually chosen what character I'd like to dress as for the first time I try out Cosplay (See the picture)

My names Matt, I'm 18 and I live in Powys, wales, somewhere close to the border with Shrewsbury and not too far from Wrexham. Basically what I'd like is to just talk to some Cosplayers, ask you lot about the stuff in general before I actually try it for myself. As bad luck would have it none of my RL friends are interested in Cosplay so finding people to go with is abit of an issue for me. If anyones got a few minutes for a chat or could point me towards some sort of group or something for welsh Cosplayers I'd appreciate it greatly!

Awesome! We were all quite nervous in the run-up to that This Morning segment, but I'm overjoyed it spurred your interest.

We're all pretty friendly and chatty here, so ask anything you like, and you're bound to get a flood of advice, opinion and suggestions.

I've been round the internet abit so I know quite abit of what people say can sometimes be quite helpless.

The main questions on my mind at the moment would be:

1) Does anybody know of any Cosplay conventions / groups around the Mid/North wales and West midlands areas?
2) Does it matter if I bought a costume rather than made one myself? My textiles skills are pretty useless.

I'm not sure about Welsh conventions but as for the second question I don't think most people will care if you buy your costume. I do always try and encourage people to make at least little bits of their cosplay, as that is the best way to learn, even if its piecing together stuff you find in charity shops. But plenty of people attend cons in costumes they've bought!

How far are you from Birmingham?

NEC plays host to MCM Expo/Comic Con/Memorabilia in November.

And Kitacon has been held at the NEC Hilton (was March this year, but going to be August in 2015)

I don't know of Wales meets/conventions, because I'm the other side of the ountry

And like Carmina already said, there's no problem with bought costumes (as long as you aren't passing them off as your own work ). A few people can be snobby about the bought/made thing, but no-one else cares.

Depends on traffic really, it's about an hour and a half drive on a regular day though I've not tried driving there myself just yet. I've been there a few times and the sheer size of that place continues to boggle my brain! I'm a country boy so such a large city is amazing in itself let alone any conventions I'll google that Con and see what I can find out, thanks.

I don't think I'd ever try and pass it off as my own, I'm hopeless when it comes to stitching and sowing and all that shizzle so if anyone asked I'd just say I bought it.
