unitard/bodysuit? HELP!
as i'm attempting 'the major' and currently building her CZN M22, i figured i'm best to build a costume around her scene in the 'tank fight' (below)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS3PGKUiSco

i was originally aiming to produce the outfit you see kusanagi in for the first few seconds of the movie before ripping it off to reveal her thermoptics and dropping off the building. HOWEVER. she doesn't use the CZN at this point.

AAAANNNYWAY.

i'm trying to find a 'base' for the tank fight costume...which looks like an 'all in one' grey number. sort of like a unitard or bodysuit. any help would be much appreciated as i'm struggling to find 'the right thing'.

many thanks and BIG HUGS

lora x

You could maybe use a headless zentai suit. But this might have a bit of shine to it where as the major is a bit more matt. I have bought one recently from http://www.bodysocks.co.uk/index.php/original/headless.html
And they do a grey/silver
Ed: also might be a bit light, I have seen others have dyed them in the past dylon is supposedly very good for synthetics

i did consider a zentai suit, but the 'sheen' was a concern! do you think it would be easy enough to dye their 'silver' one to a darker grey?

thanks x

hay you can buy matt coloured ones -dance leotards, or you can make one, but it can be hard.

You need 4 way stretch lycra. i am sure there are patterns out there.

The way i made my first leotard (garnet gold) i made a cotton template of half my body used an old bed sheet lol and then cut two halfs out of the stretch fabric then sowed them together with the seam running from front to back and up the inside leg. You need to sow using a zig zag stitch and do two runs on the seams t reinforce them.

It is a real simple design but it is hard to explain in words but ultimately it is the best way to get the perfect fit .

I could have done with this thread a while back as I'm making a bodysuit myself! I've decided to edit an existing pattern, so I'll let you know how that works out as I go!

The pattern in question is Kwiksew 2722

this is really useful information - thankyou so much

i am afraid that my sewing skills may not be 'quite' up to this yet. but i suppose i could try to buy a full leotard and potentially dye it for now and then at a later date (when i have more time) take on the task of making one!

thanks for the advice x

Bit random but if you are planing to make one it might be worth watching the last episode of the great british sewing bee as it was all about stretch fabric and had sum good advice about sewing with it.

Ether seem suitable, one thing I did notice is that both ship from china. I have had size problems from both China and Taiwan, in the uk I am XL but have struggled to fit in XXXL jackets from Taiwan as size differs based on average build. That being sed the material of the suit is very Strachey, but if over stretched can become a bit translucent. It's probably would be good to ask the seller for advice on size.

ah! one of the few times i neglected to set to 'uk' on ebay!!! well spotted.

i know what you mean about sizing problems, i'll maybe make some inquiries about measurements. i am a uk size 14-16 so i dont know if im too big for one...hopefully it won't be too much hassle to find out! x

This pattern is great if you need a simple bodysuit! You can easily just not cut out the shape in the back panel and include a zipper if you wished.
One word of warning though, make sure your fabric stretches to the necessary degree! The grey jersey I bought is slightly less stretchy and while I tried to counteract that by cutting it larger than I needed, it's not as flexible as it should be. So yes, definitely make use of the stretch guide at the back!
