Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds 2014
As I have missed out on tickets a few years ago, I am very VERY excited to be able to finally attend the one in London for November! (and very grateful my friend managed to nab two tickets for me and him due to me being in class)

But I recalled a few years back some people cosplayed to this event and I honestly wondered how, I mean I planned to as well this year if possible (most likely as Garnet) but I want to know what other peoples opinions were like being there AND being in cosplay, recommendations etc etc.

(I've gotten my seats somewhere in R I believe, sorry if this is the wrong topic forum!)

I know there's a bunch of us planning various cosplays =) From formal Auron, to Amano Rydia, to a white mage, and I personally am doing one of Lightning's garbs from LR:FFXIII

People have various opinions on cosplaying to something like DW. I personally think it's absolutely fine, but it should probably be something more formal. You have to think sensibly as well. No weapons or props. And make sure it's something you can sit down in for a couple of hours, without getting in the way of people behind/around you.

Garnet is a great choice, just make sure the skirt isn't too poofy! xD

Whee! a fellow Garnet cosplayer! I'm hoping to go in her orange jumpsuit and push for the cloak she wears in her escape. I'm somewhere in J and attending for my third time.

My only recommendation is not to go for anything which is going to be a royal pain in the ass to sit in, or anything that's going to get in the way of people behind you or next to you, or are easily removable. People may step on pieces of your costume too because the corridors are very narrow in a lot of places, you're also going to be pretty cold going too and from the event so bring a coat!

Also, merch. They're going to be selling them there in the forms of plushies, the program, and t-shirts. Last year they had a special edition one and the regular design, I dont know if they will bring out a new design this year but my recommendation is to do it as soon as possible because those rooms are pretty small and are usually heaving. Things also tend to sell out by the end.

There is usually a break in the middle to go to the loo and get a drink, but we just bring our own things to avoid having to buy things that are overpriced.

Lastly, enjoy! It's an amazing experience and I've never been let down by it.

Go for it
I think the others have already given the best advice to make sure you're comfortable and to try not to restrict people's view etc.

Hope to see you there. Am hoping to cosplay Celes.

I'm heading to Distant Worlds for the third time and finally I managed to get a good seat this year. They don't have a problem with people cosplaying to the event and it is really fun to do, but it's a good idea to leave any props at home. Just wear something you'll be able to easily move around/sit down in.

I'll either go as Lightning or Refia's Devout outfit. Have fun if you do cosplay!

ahhh I see n.n thanks for all the advice guys! I wanted to do Garnet's jumpsuit actually too (or with white mage, if it gets really chilly) tho...I'm starting to wonder if that's formal enough now XD" (maybe just a white mage might just suffice but still)

I think Garnet would be fine. I cosplayed as Hope last time which is hardly formal but no one seemed to mind.

I agree, you don't HAVE to dress formal, Garnet will be great

It's true that you don't HAVE to dress formal but considering it's the Royal Albert Hall I think wearing something other than jeans and a t-shirt or something too revealing for example just fits the situation/location better.
I cosplayed SeeD Ball Rinoa the first time I attended and wore a black evening dress the second time as I didn't cosplay (I did have Serah's engagement pendant on though!). This year I either plan to be Rinoa again or Julia Heartilly.

I'll be going this year for the first time too! I had the same cosplay dilemma actually xD I think I'm going to go as Relm as it's fancy enough without being a massive awkward dress (Garnet!) I do worry about the feathers and headscarf but hopefully I'm short enough for it to not get in anyone's way xD

Very excited! I've wanted to go for so long! :3

Any excuse to cosplay, I say! First occasion myself and my friends Ino and Natsumi dressed as Rinoa, Quistis and Selphie in suitably colour-matched evening dresses (in blue for Rinoa, pink and formal for Quisty and I had girly yellow for Selphie). The last one a larger group of us did FF heroines in little black dresses! (We picked out aspects of their individual characters and added it to our designs.) So both times we chose to, sort of, PART cosplay, you might say. Not sure what we'll be doing this year yet. ^_^ Exciting, though!
