Presea Combatir Cosplay: I need advice! My first cosplay!
Hey, this year, for a lan I'm going to, I'm gonna cosplay as Presea Combatir from Tales of Symphonia for a competition, I don't expect to win anything though, it's my first time cosplaying, properly anyway!
There are two things I need advice for, but first, here's a reference picture:

I'm not looking to make the hair exactly like hers, I just want pigtails, I was thinking this one:

I think this one's okay, I was thinking of buying a straight wig and styling it myself, I'm a noob at things like that though, and it seems hard to part un-parted wigs and look good without too much hassle, also I don't have a very large budget, I have the rest of the costume sorted out, like the dress etc....well it will be sorted out in time! The lan isn't until august
I'm getting help from my sister with the dress etc, she's the only one who has a sewing machine and knows how to use it in our house!

Also the axe, this is gonna be tricky, my dad said he's help me with it though, but I wanted to ask what material would be best for the blade, the handle we will use wood, but if we use wood for the blade too, it will be too heavy and I don't know if I'll be able to take into the lan! Maybe some type of foam, can someone link me to a website that sells something good for that please, also something for the dagger, maybe foam for the whole dagger?
Also the small pouch on the back of her belt and the small 'sheath' for her dagger, leather? Where would I get leather from and how would I make those things out of it!

Sorry, for asking so much, I'm just a noob! Thanks in advance

WAIT!!! Almost forgot, the exsphere (bottom right of the pic) and the armour? Thanks

For the axe, it really depends where you hope to wear the costume. If it's for a convention, most have rules about what you can and can't bring as props, check their website. If it's just for you and friends, then price and practicality are the only real issues

Insulation foam is really good for light props and can be got in sheets from places like B&Q and Wickes. It can be carved with a sharp knife, and sanded to shape (wear a breathing mask and do in a well ventilated area!) You will also find plastic piping, and foam "sleeves" for pipes that are good for shafts and handles. For leather, any good fabric shop/haberdasher should have a selection of leatherette, or leather-look PVC. Which is cheaper (and easier to work with) than actual leather!

Can't help with the wig though. I'll leave that for those with the knowledge.

Thanks, that was really useful, my dad probably has a mask and we can do it in his garage, or outside, thanks again, will be really useful

Also if anyone has an alternative to insulation foam, all suggestions are needed
Also any ideas for the exsphere (bottom right of the ref. pic.)

i would suggest a wig with longer pigtails
her hair seems pretty long spikes and itll be easier to cut a long one than to find out the short one is too short

even if its a curly one like the lolita ones, theyre relatively ok to straighten with hot water

or maybe a short pink one and then get 2 pigtails.

As sonnet said, it's easier to style if you get a wig with longer pigtails. I bet there's a Miku wig in pink, and most of the retailers and sellers in ebay sell wigs in different colours.

I doubt the price will differ that much. You might even be able to style it like the character's. It's not too difficult if you use good hairspray. There are lot's of tutorials about spiking hair up, as well.
