1. What is your gender?
Other.

2. What age group do you belong too?
21 and above (and those are some strange age bands!)

3. How long have you been cosplaying?
Four years

4. How do non-cosplayer fans react to you as a cosplayer?
Depends on who they are and where I am. Everything from amusement and joy, to resentment and derision

5. Why do you cosplay?
So many reasons I could write an essay. But for your purposes, because it's fun, I get to make and wear cool clothes, I get to snub traditional gender roles, I demonstrate my love for a source, and have an icebreaker for talking to strangers.

6. What was your inspiration to start?

Seeing friends do it

7. How do you pick who you are going to be?

I try to find characters I like, that I think I can make or buy the costume for

8. Do you try to pick someone like you, or someone completely different?
Irrelevant. I pick characters I like regardless of if they are like me mentally or physically.

9. Do you associate with other cosplayers?
Yes. But mostly friends who cosplay, rather than strangers

10. Do you think the positive feedback from the community is part of the reason you cosplay?
Not a huge part, but it is in there

11. Do you feel more connected with other anime fans when cosplaying?
Kind of. I feel closer to the community when cosplaying, and a bit awkward when out of costume at events.

12. What is the absolute best part of cosplaying?
Dressing up!

13. Is cosplay important to you? Why?
Yes. It's an outlet and a creative focus.

14. Do you play video game?
yes.

15. How do video game relate to cosplay please explain?
People cosplay as characters from video games.

16. Do you know what a maid café is?

Yes

17. Have you visited one and where?
I have not

18 .What his your view on maid café and the outfits they wear?
I'm torn between liking the outfits and style, and deploring the stereotypical gender roles and male-gaze pandering. I'm happier with cafes who have butlers too, or who have crossplaying maids/butlers.

19. Do you think you think maid café maid are too sexy looking or more cute looking?

I don't have enough experience to comment. And I think it would depend on the specific cafe

20. Why do you visit a maid café?
I haven't visited one.

21. Do you think maid café relate back to games?

No

22. Can you explain how they do relate back to games?
While some games have featured maid cafes, I don't see a direct correlation. I suppose it is possible that a cafe might have their maids cosplaying as game characters for an event, but again that's not representative of all cafes.

1. What is your gender?
Female

2. What age group do you belong too?
16-20

3. How long have you been cosplaying?
Four years

4. How do non-cosplayer fans react to you as a cosplayer?
They are usually really nice, sure you get a few odd looks but you also get funny interactions. When I went as a zombie to one convention on the way there and back people were complimenting my make up and some boys wanted high fives.

5. Why do you cosplay?
I just love dressing up as my favourite characters, making the costumes and going to the expo's dressed in those costumes.

6. What was your inspiration to start?
My friend told me she went to a convention dressed up and the next year I went with her, I just wanted to join in and try it as well.

7. How do you pick who you are going to be?
I make a list of characters I want to cosplay and see how much money I have to do that. Usually I end up changing my ideas as well depending on which character(s) are my favourites at that time.

8. Do you try to pick someone like you, or someone completely different?
Completely different, I almost always pick evil characters because they are more fun to play.

9. Do you associate with other cosplayers?
I do when it comes to asking for photos or on facebook, I also attend with my cosplaying friends but other than that I never had a chance at meeting cosplays and speaking to them at expo's. I want to change that.

10. Do you think the positive feedback from the community is part of the reason you cosplay?
A little bit, if I went to expo's and people were horrible about my cosplay's I'd probably end up not cosplaying.

11. Do you feel more connected with other anime fans when cosplaying?
I do when I'm cosplaying anime characters but I usually connect with cosplayers who cosplay the same things as myself, such as meeting a whole Kick Ass group.

12. What is the absolute best part of cosplaying?
After spending all that time working on a costume, just going to the expo and being able to show it off and get feedback. It's really nice for people to appriciate what you've created.

13. Is cosplay important to you? Why?
Yes because it's allowed me to get more confidence in what I like and who I am, as well as meet more people such as my boyfriend which was through cosplaying at a convention. It is also relaxing as well as keeping me doing something when I don't feel too good.

14. Do you play video game?
Yes

15. How do video game relate to cosplay please explain?
I like cosplaying video gaame characters because it's bringing them to life like anime characters, I cosplay GLaDOS from Portal and you always see people from other video games.

16. Do you know what a maid café is?
Yes

17. Have you visited one and where?
No

18 .What his your view on maid café and the outfits they wear?
I think they are alright, I don't have much of an opinion on them.

19. Do you think you think maid café maid are too sexy looking or more cute looking?
From photos I have seen they look more cute than sexy.

20. Why do you visit a maid café?
I'd visit it to have food, but some people might because they like the thought of a maid serving them food.

21. Do you think maid café relate back to games?
Not really

22. Can you explain how they do relate back to games?
I imagine a Maid Cafe being for anime characters or just people dressed as maids apposed to other cosplay characters.

To celebrate my love for a series and make friends who like the same things. Also as a form of escapism to just have fun being someone else for a while. I crossplay too as a way of rebelling against gender roles. I also enjoy the crafting side and learning new skills from making my own costumes.

18 .What his your view on maid café and the outfits they wear?

The ones I've been to were cute and light-hearted.

19. Do you think you think maid café maid are too sexy looking or more cute looking?

The ones I've been to were cute but I'm sure there are sexy ones out there.

20. Why do you visit a maid café?

They have a nice atmosphere and were a place to relax at a con.

21. Do you think maid café relate back to games?

I'm not sure, maybe they relate to dating sims?

22. Can you explain how they do relate back to games?

I know at some of them in Japan the maids will flirt with the guests, so I guess its a bit like a dating game.
