A cosplay New Year; what's your resolution?
So with it now officially being 2014, I'd like to know what everybody's New Years resolutions are for the cosplay world? I've decided I want to start making a lot more costumes and being adventurous with new materials. I've not really worked with anything too exciting so far, but I'm up for the challenge! I also plan to get a new sewing machine soon.

What are your cosplay resolutions?

My resolutions are to do a dream cosplay of mine rather than dreaming about it (Knight of Zero Suzaku) that would lead me to having to learn a number of new techniques that I am looking forward to trying out and to learn make-up properly rather than using cheap concealer and the old stuff poking about. Ive been itching to do a mammoth project but I dont want bad skin to ruin my fun

I might also use this year to brush up my photography/videography skills

I'm going to be tackling a dream costume which I've decided that I'm ready to make.

Have a good go at making some armour pieces. With worbla its made to be a lot more within my reach.

Keep chipping away at those Cardcaptor Sakura costumes!

Slim up so that I can get around to other costumes I couldn't see myself doing currently.

I am going to:

1. Only wear as many costumes as there are days (plus one "big" masquerade costume) at events. Gone are the days of trying to wear 7-10 costumes to a 3-day event. If an event is 3 days, the maximum number of cosplays allowed is 4!

2. One day of a con must be dubbed "t-shirt cosplay" day. I will be comfy dag-nab-it! (See # 1)

3. Make fewer, better quality costumes instead of getting overexcited about everything and rushing last minute to complete things! (See #1)

4. Rewear costumes more often. Though this kind of depends on getting my health issues sorted out and under control (totes doing it this year!) so that I am not losing/gaining half a stone in between making the costume and wearing it (usually a week... yeah... stupid body).

5. Plan more in advance (See #3) and actually stick to my plans regardless of whether or not a group is actually happening as planned. Dropping cosplays and swapsies can only be done if I am too tired to make a costume for an event and swapsie will only be for rewears & not an entirely new cosplay! (See #3 & #4) I can always rewear it to another event with the group after all and I will be less stressed if a costume is (mostly) done for a future event. (See #4)

So my key cosplay resolutions for 2014 are: Planning, Rewearing & Cosplay Quality, Not Quantity.

Finally get around to some of those costumes I've been putting off for YEARS.

Not so much a resolution as an aim, but I'm going to strive to lose a couple of inches of my waist, so I can wear my hotpants for a costume at May expo.

Also I resolve to get involved in more group cosplays. They're way more fun than cosplaying solo

I hope to get back into competing! I haven't entered a costume competitively on my own since early 2012 purely because university has consumed all the free time I have. But I'm on placement at the moment, so I have a bit more free time in the evenings and weekends to do stuff so I plan on making one competitive costume for the year! I don't expect much of an outcome, I just miss the challenge because quite often without a competition I have no desire to make a challenging costume ever XD

To be able to do more with wigs! Even just learning how to salvage and add wefts would be pretty exciting for me as I'm just so bad with hair!

1. Keep on trying to improve.
2. No deadlines - I'm only going to commit to wearing costumes I have already completed (I caused myself far too much stress in 2013 this way).
3. Limited costume making till May, My exams must come first - temporarily.
4. Have fun.

my resolution is to go to more cons and have more esteem cosplaying.

02 Jan 2014 - 02:39109980
Mine is to get sewing done on time before cons so I don't have to panic or rush and I can chill out more. Also to have more photoshoots as I rarely get to have them except for at cons or events, and finally to have more confidence instead of being so shy x3 ( as I really love meeting new people and saying hello, but I always get shy to walk over first xD)

I say this to myself every year, but get better at makeup! I actually did improve a bit last year but I want to try harder as my cosplays this year include a little kid and an actual person;;

Also to do and be part of more shoots! They're always so much fun~

I'm cosplaying one of my dream cosplays this year so I want to make it as good as I possibly can!

Service our sewing machine!

I love this one. In recent years the cosplay scene has become something I don't recognise as much as when I started back in 2005/6. Other things seem to come before the fun of the hobby - good on you!

Hoping to lose a bit more weight around my waist and thighs D:

And to go to more cons this year! Trying to overcome my social anxiety, and going to them actually helps me do just that. As long as I have friends close by that is xD

#1: Lose weight. I am getting pretty chubby, and my characters generally are not so that's a good idea.

#2: Not scrimping. Buying the correct wigs and making sure that everything I buy/make is perfect to achieve the quality I desire. I have already had to replace 2 wigs with money that I was lucky enough to get for christmas and purchased new glasses/waistcoats/contacts etc for my main cosplays - Claude and Sebastian

#3: Do less new costumes in 1 year, but make what I do decide to do. Reiji Sakamaki is pretty much the only one I will end up doing this year as well as bringing back Claude and Sebastian that shall hopefully be perfected!

#4: Practice make-up! My make-up skills are terrible and I need to improve!

Finally #5: When it comes to photos, less selfies. For photos that will be online, I will pluck up the courage to ask dad to take a photo on one of his cameras, I get a little self conscious around my family in cosplay. I wish to get over this too.

Hope this all goes to plan and hope everyone elses do too! x3

Lose weight, gain confidence.

Also, actually cosplay Descole from the Professor Layton series (seriously, he's gone on and off my list countless times).

Mine is to start going to both London MCM Expo Comic Cons in May and October

Last year i finally got around to making my dream costume but caused myself so much stress doing it to deadlines that this year my resolution is to not stress about getting things finished for convention deadlines. If something isn't finished for X con then just wear it when your happy with it! ^_^

I will also try and lose weight! =) and get some more photoshoots done!
