Cosplay Anxiety...
Does anyone else get it just before a con?
I love cosplaying when I'm there and I'm usually perfectly happy. But right before a convention, like a week in advance, I get horrendous cosplay anxiety. I feel self conscious, worried and anxious about what I'll look like as the character I'm cosplaying. For example, London MCM this weekend. I'm cosplaying Alice Liddell and Harley Quinn. I adore the costumes for them, and I know that when I get in the excel doors, I'll have an amazing time and really enjoy wearing my cosplay, but right now...I feel so god damn nervous, I feel sort of sick...

I just wanted to see if it's just me or not.

Ditto
It's like literally a week before expo and I'll put the costume on to make sure everything's fine and I've not missed anything and I'll start hating it and how I look. Despite having been super happy with it up till then

This is including how I look myself, even when I'm out of costume. Roll on the actual day when we can all get there and have a good time and ignore our worries~~

I get it just before stepping out of the hotel room at the event. It's that final mirror check, when all the flaws and worries get magnified, and I seriously consider taking it all off and attending in regular clothes.

I highly recommend cosplaying with a partner. friend or group. People who's opinions you trust, who can talk you down, and reassure you that everything looks great when these confidence crises strike.

At least it will all be okay on the day, right? I guess I've always had low self confidence and anxiety with my appearance.

I was going to cosplay with a group, but now it seems I'm the only one cosplaying in the group. *Sigh*

I can't speak for Alice, but its very likely there'll be a DC/Batman photoshoot you can meet up with as Harley.

Check the MCM Fringe website: http://www.mcmcomiccon.com/london/attractions/mcm-fringe-festival/ (Nothing there yet, but keep an eye on it over the next few days)

I always get nervous the night before an expo. Even if it's just a local one and I know people going, it's something I can't change. Once I'm there, I'm fine!

I guess I just panic over the fact what people will think of my costume and wonder if anyone would actually recognise the character I'm being.

Can't say that I do anymore, I'm kinda the opposite where I want to show off my costume ASAP. It also helps that I used to do a lot of livestreaming & podcasts stuff. So I'm long over it.

How did I overcome it? By not giving a Damn what others think & concenrating purely on the fact I'm gonna be fav character for a day. And remembering how much time & effort it took to put together my costume, that I must show it off! Even if only 1 person notices.

And as others have said being with friends are great help too.

I tend to get nervous just before stepping out of the hotel room but it’s more of a concern about the possible reactions of non-con goers/hotel staff than about the costume itself. Once I’m at the convention I’m fine

Oh I have this SO bad right now. I currently think my Syaoran Li cosplay is rubbish and since parts of it were a rush job ;-; I always get really nervous the night before, but only about putting on the wig for some reason!

You are far from the only one ^^;

I usually get like that when I am just about to finish a costume. Thats when the flaws seem to get noticeable and the one thing that needs doing is to finish the costume first.

As soon as im on the floor I am ok. I especially get it with masquerades but that goes away as soon as I hop on stage XD

i can't tell you how grateful i am to have my friends when i've done really bad last minute cosplays due to personal reasons, but i wore them out anyway.
