Cosplay Presentation Help!
Hi guys~

I've been asked to give a presentation on cosplay for a society at my university next week, but I've been given no guidelines on what actually to talk about.

I was wondering if anyone had done anything like this before and might be able to give me some suggestions?

Just about anything you can give me would be super-useful: Who to pitch it to, the types of things to discuss, and different parts of the hobby to elaborate on would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe you could point out to the person that asked you that you would like some more specifics so that you can better tailor it? =)

I would start off by going through the definition of what costume play is and then move onto the various different reasons that people might like to do it for and then go into some detail on each of those ( like to advance textiles skills, prop construction skills, love of the character, photography skills, to meet and socialise with other fans, performing in skits, competitions, etc ).

Then perhaps you could follow it by explaining about different types of cosplay, like fursuits, steampunk, Japanese fashion and crossplay, etc.

I hope this helps.

Which society are you delivering to? A presentation for a Manga Soc will be different to one for Fashion, Theatre, or Video Games.

Thanks, Tsuchinoko, that's really helpful - I literally had no idea where to begin!

It's for a science fiction and fantasy society, so I'm presuming there's already some knowledge of cosplay in the audience...?

Maybe cover how it started in American sci-fi conventions, how fans cosplay at film premieres, and the sci-fi charity costuming groups like the 501st?
