National Sewing Project Month (SewNovember)
Hey folks, it's the middle of October and I'm back to see who's still up for joining me in my sewing escapades on November 1st to 31st! There's already a few of us taking part and I'll be using this post to index the various places people are using to post their updates.

A reminder on how it's going to work:

You start a brand new sewing project on November 1st. It can be a costume, or a regular sewing project like a cool dress, plushie, or something. Add it to your CI profile, your cosplay page on FB, your LJ, wherever you want to put it, and the challenge is to work on it and make a written update about it every day for the whole of November. Every day. No minimum word count on the written update or obligation to post daily pictures - a picture of some hemming and a sentence is just as acceptable as ten paragraphs of research into fabric types!

If you finish it early, start another one! You could even do a different project every week or fortnight if you're confident in your skills. You can also write a few updates on one day to post on days when you're away and can't work on your project.

It's just a bit of fun, and if you don't manage to post every day despite your best efforts, it's not a big deal - think of it as a challenge!

Taking Part

To join in, all you need to do is post below with your name, a link to where you're posting your updates (CI costume entry, FB profile, blog, Tumblr with hashtag, whatever), and a sentence or two about what you're planning to make, so people can have a look at the list of people participating and see if there's any projects in particular they would like to follow.

If you're hosting your SewNovember project on CI and it's not a costume project, don't set a costume icon - this stops your costume journal updates from showing in the Recently Updated Costumes section. This is to avoid spamming up that section so people who are not participating and not tracking SewNovember projects can still enjoy seeing recently updated costumes, and those who are interested can come to this thread to see who is taking part, or friend the people whose updates they want to see (as it does still show as Friend Activity). See my costume profile link below for an example of how to set this up.

When you make your updates, if you're using something like Tumblr, FB or Twitter, use the hashtag #SewNovember to make it easier to find your posts

Here's the Facebook group for SewNovember - you can post there or on your own page!

List of participating members
madmazda86 - CI page - Making a beanbag, two onesies and an ironing board cover
GunstarVixen - http://louisestrongdesigns.blogspot.co.uk/ - Making a coat from scratch
neomogrox - http://kurostylr.blogspot.co.uk/ - Sofa cover from fabric remnants
Angel Tear - Posting on the Facebook group
Chimmy88 - Fleecy hats
Stubbled Grapes - Various plushies!
Pudding - Christmas Chibi Usa/Rini (Sailor Moon S) and Christmas Tomoyo (Cardcaptor Sakura)
Carmina - LARP costume
silverbrumby123 - Himeno (Pretear)
Fyria - Various little crafty things including a Christmas gift
misfit_mosher - Ezra Scarlet (Grand Magic Games version) from Fairy Tail
sugarhalo - Angel Stocking from Panty, Stocking and Garterbelt
picklesofdoom - Cat snuggle bag and Justin from Grandia
springinstep - My Little Pony Rarity plushie, shoulder bag and some costumes (Morgana, Belle and Gwaine)
CrystalNeko - Miki Hoshii from iDOLM@STER
Myself, neomogrox and GunstarVixen have deliberately selected non-costume projects as something different from making a costume (I've been meaning to make the beanbag for ages, my ironing board cover is completely ripped to buggery and the onesies are Christmas gifts XD). But you can do whatever you like, as long as it involves sewing! So come and join in the fun this November and chase away those post-con season blues!

Sounds fun!!! Shame I already either started my Kitacon cosplays or plan to start the rest after Christmas XD

I might look into it. I do have lots of scraps of fabrics in my fabric box and recently made a couple of cute little cushions so that might be a plan!

Count me in! I'll have to decide what I'm making, but I'm thinking along the lines of a formal dress costume. I'll link back to it when I've solidified the idea though.

Still love this idea!

I was planning to make a stocking and advent calendar, but I'm not sure that'll take a whole month =p So I might just dedicate it to a cosplay (and on the side make the Christmasy stuff =p)

I'll update once I've decided!

FB group
Hi guys,

I've created a FB group for people to join (if you want!) I know it's easier for people to post on the go to fb than CI and a great place to chat.

Also great for those of us who are making non-cosplay items and blogging on our own sites - not CI

It's an open group so invites your friends!

Got a link? I tried having a look for it myself but no luck. I'd definitely be interested in joining it though.

I'd be interested, though I have just moved and I now don't have any access to any of my materials or sewing machine.

This looks like a awesome idea C:

I'm very tempted to make a cosplay of one of the new Gym Leaders from X and Y but I got too much fleece so I might make some hats XD

Depends on work commitments as to if I join in but have been planning to make a belted cape out of remnants of my wedding dress fabric (a black & white silk tweed) with red leather accents (left overs from Harley Quinn). Keep us posted on FB feed...

16 Oct 2013 - 21:20108206
Might join in ^^

Sounds fun Maz! I totes need to text you, cos I'm going to be through in a few weeks and I've not seen you in aaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggggeeeeeeessssssss.

I actually just ordered some stuff for a costume I'm going to be making throughout November... well technically 2 cosplays as I'm totally into doing things now that are multi-purpose with only a few additions and a different wig.

Christmas Chibi-Usa: http://www.cosplayisland.co.uk/costume/view/84225

& Christmas Tomoyo: http://www.cosplayisland.co.uk/costume/view/84229

And yes, I know, it's pink, what a weird choice for me; but the fabric was beautiful.

For those of you looking for the FB group, just search "SewNovember" in the FB searchbar or follow this link (I think, if it works, I am not the best at FB): https://www.facebook.com/groups/639257856097719/

Thanks, Pudding! I tried looking for it manually earlier but had no luck. Joining now as we speak!

17 Oct 2013 - 09:46108217
Joined the facebook page. I'm going to try and make something for my LARP characters and if I get finished start on a new cosplay.

17 Oct 2013 - 16:55108226
Remember guys its not just a cosplay thing, although I can see the advantage of getting one done before the new season starts next year. I'll be making a sofa cover out of a load of remnants, so keep a look out on FB. On that subject remember if you fancy making something try going out of your cmfort zone or look at things you'd love to make for the house. Nevertheless keep up the enthusiasm guys!

17 Oct 2013 - 23:35108243
I'm doing a cosplay because the things I need for the house are mostly woodwork & painting based atm (plus a bit of cheeky decoupage ;P ). I may also do a few cushion covers, but that will take about a day to re-cover all the cushions in the house that need doing, so I can't really stretch that out over a whole month. And I will probably also re-upholster my desk chair (i.e. the chair I stole from the kitchen that used to be for painting the house) if I finish painting it before the end of SewNovember; though tbh it requires more stapling than sewing unless I get "artistic"...

I am not allowed to change my curtains (even though it's my room, they were supposed to be "temporary" 8 or 9 years ago and they don't even fit my window... the mysteries of parents, meh!) or they'd be my project!

Okay, I've been wanting to do these for a while, so am gonna finally start making some plushies =]

Will in theory be making more than one, depends on who I decide to make and how long each takes.

So you can just put me down for "Plushies (various)" =p

Awesome! I've updated the thread with everyone who's definitely participating so far, and the FB group link. I bought my fabric for my ironing board cover yesterday - it's panda-tastic!

Yup, I'm in. Mostly small things as I don't know how busy I'll be with other things. Will be picking up the various materials on Friday when I (hopefully) get paid.

Oohh this looks like a fabulous idea.

I'm trying to get into blogging generally but most times I loose interest or not go back to it for ages. Thinking if this time I have a real purpose to talk about something like this SewNovember project then yay

30 Oct 2013 - 11:15108662
Know what, count me in!

I'd like to do various mini-projects of plushies and clothing items using all the fabric and felt I have lying around if that's okay please.

I'll be posting progress here: http://britchickvick.blogspot.co.uk/

Right I'll probably have a few mini projects going like a snuggle bag for my cat as I have loads of material left over from Ursula that the Cat seemed to enjoy sleeping on lol but my main project will be getting the sewing part of my Justin cosplay made
